  1. We all have to make choices, and live with the consequences. You prefer not to look beyond the ASB (I'm not even going to bring up the rest of the decade), you just want a quick fix to the (admittedly painful) product on the field - aka the Jim Hendry way. The new front office has chosen a long -term strategy to fix the organization's problems and is sticking to that strategy. FWIW, I prefer this long-term approach, even if the immediate result is frustrating to watch on most days. I agree. It is not a band aid type of fix. I am looking forward to seeing the kids get called up later in the season.
  2. Enhancing the self worth of a random meatball.
  3. Stupid Heat, just lose tonight.
  4. Knees still hobbled...still crazy expensive...still Alfonso Soriano...value not changing. Eh, trade him to an AL team to be a DH and at least the exploded knees might matter less. Otherwise, yeah. Soriano hot streaks are still fun to watch.
  5. Occasionally I go to the off-track betting place here in Fort Wayne and bet a couple races. Small bets, mainly for my own amusement. Like dropping maybe $5 to win on a 5-1 horse, things like that. Seeing if I can get lucky and win a little money. But yeah, that place is usually packed with old people who pour over the racing guide (or whatever it is called), doing actual research, then cursing the horses as they lose money repeatedly. So I guess I kind of feel like I agree with jersey based on my limited anecdotal evidence. I know horse racing is still a big money business and the Derby/Preakness/Belmont still get media attention but otherwise I don't feel like it is amazingly popular. April-June is the only time I really notice it in the sports media at all.
  6. On a good team, I'd say he is a nice bench player for pinch-running and defensive replacement. In other words, I could see keeping him in the 25 man roster going forward but as a starter, not so much.
  7. Or maybe he is pressing since he knows the rest of the lineup is piece of [expletive]? Plausible theory imo.
  8. So the unsubstantiated message board rumor circuit is currently selling the notion that Mo Creek might be the guy who gets Creaned to make the scholly numbers work for IU this season. The odd part is apparently his work ethic is being questioned...hell, everything I've heard about Mo since his first injury has indicated the kid a is freaking work-a-holic gym rat. :-k
  9. A healthy Bulls team = finding a pink unicorn.
  10. Boston has this series in the bag, it is OVAH!!!
  11. OMG DON'T JINX IT. But yeah, I agree with you.
  12. The Cardinals have yet to score a run against the Mets. When is the last time a team got shut out for an entire series of at least 3 games? Granted, this series concludes with a 4th game tomorrow.
  13. Nothing will ever approach 2006. Speed doesn't slump, dude.
  14. Obviously he forgot to leave a forwarding address for his HGH shipments. That little detail must be resolved now. :good:
  15. I was a junior in college during the 0-14 debacle. It was fairly depressing checking the standings during that time period. I"m not really all that rocked by the Cubs current suckage. I still have faith in Theo's plan. Blind faith perhaps, but I'm not freaking out about it. I just wish this team was good enough to at least fake being in contention for a while.
  16. That would NOT be a record. I expect more, c'mon Cubs! Make history. Or something like that. :?
  17. Obviously tonight's game was not a big game since Dempster pitched well. Since, you know, all his bad starts come in BIG games and all his good starts come in meaningless games. Or something like that.
  18. There are rumors that Houston is prepared to waaaaaaay over-pay for Hibbert so if they make an outlandish offer, it is possible the Pacers would not match and that could free up some cap room. Not that I particularly want to see Hibbert go but just putting that out there. And screw Miami. :-k
  19. Dunston??? Damn. I don't think Shawon even approached a .300 average for a full season until like a decade into his career.
  20. I can't pinpoint the exact time it happened but I remember back in either 2004 or 2005 still being pretty much a meatball in terms of even attempting to understand the advanced stats. I remember at one time, either 2004 or 2005 there was a point in time that Jose Macias had a .274 BA and a .274 OBP (lolzerowalks) and people were raging about how awful he was and I kept thinking, well he has a decent BA right? 2008 might have been the tipping point actually. That Cubs team was so patient at the plate and was so productive overall...in any case, I respect the sabr analysis now. I accept it as a valuable tool.
