  1. [offtopic][/offtopic] I've said that about a dozen or so of these, "how did he find (x number) better than this. It really speaks to how many huge moments there were. I think Rizzo in particular must be addicted to his own adrenaline at the point.
  2. pitchers and catchers report earlier than position players, yada yada yada, the bisque was good. Right, nevermind that plenty of other players are reporting early. I don't think Rizzo thinks he's a catcher, but he's there. Definitely not meant to be taken seriously.
  3. How cute, Schwarber thinks he's still a catcher.
  4. This just in: David Rollins has been DFA'd again.
  5. You are giving too much credit to your former STL brethren Between this, the reds stadium pic and using the Astros draft board, this has to be intentional at this point, no?
  6. Between this and the reds stadium pic, this has to be intentional at this point, no?
  7. Im pretty sure it was a Tom House (who was basically Mark Prior's pitching guru) thing.
  8. The funny thing is, his range cost the Cubs an out here. With anyone else at third, Russel makes the play.
  9. A 14 man staff with multiple off days in the early schedule? I don't see it. Someone gets cut, or more likely someone opens the season on the DL. With as much injury history as this team has, there's no doubt there's someone with "tightness" by the end of ST.
  10. There are 14 names above. I added the options status of each. I took a beating a month or so ago by suggesting that the Cubs should add enough pitchers to walk in to spring training with no room for Edwards. I made the mistake of saying that he would ostensibly be off the theoretical (nonexistent in spring training) 25 man in spring training but also suggested that injuries (or DFA's) would assure that he would be on the 25 by opening day. That is exactly what has happened here. Make no mistake, I believe that Edwards will be on the 25 man come opening day. But Theo has added enough arms that there isn't enough room for everyone on ML contract and Edwards and Z. Add in NRI's and its still more crowded. If everyone is healthy and performs, Edwards is the odd man out. In theory, not in reality.
  11. Its the second time Friedman has traded for him. Very theo-esque.
  12. Fair enough. I was just positing a guess at what toonster meant by "this climate"
  13. The kind who has been on WebMD all day instead of doing his job updating this amazing list.
  14. What would motivate Atlanta to make this sort of move? I'm not even sure Teheran alone is something that we could go after (I mean, in this climate, Teheran might not a stronger return than some think), and all the young arms are intriguing enough that I doubt the Braves move any of them at this stage unless it's a no-brainer, knock your socks off deal. - Bats for arms - What's the in this climate...part mean? That over the past few years young, cost-controlled, healthy arms seem to be at a premium, whereas just a few years ago the dearth of power hitters seemed to cause the opposite to be true?
  15. I'll take the over and not think twice.
  16. like on wall street?
  17. Only if he pitches shirtless and in an open vest. And pantsless.
  18. You just made me hate Trump less.
  19. Always the bridesmaid, never the WS champ
  20. I don't want Feldman, but the idea of having Scott Feldman, and possibly bouncing San Francisco out of the playoffs again, while poor Samardzija watches is on is highly amusing. In the alternate universe where samardzija isn't a jerk, we never trade Castro, never get Russell and never sign Lackey. We still win the World Series.
  21. Any news on how our reclamation project is coming along?
  22. Also have never been to the convention and have no interest in it either but I always enjoy watching video of the opening ceremonies, and the hype video... they hype video this year should be pretty fun. I went for the first time last year. It was a great time. Too many signature people. The sessions with the braintrust were relatively empty. I even got to ask Joe a question. I told my 65 year old father, "If we are ever going to go to the Convention, this is the year." Seeing this team introduced for the first time was pretty special. That said, I imagine this year would be even better. The main difference is I got my tickets by meeting someone on Craigslist for $50(all he wanted was the peel off chance to stand in an autograph line), and resold them for $40 on Sunday morning. This year, last I checked, you're looking at $400 a ticket on StubHub.
  23. If you can't say anything good about your manager's handling of your pitching staff... Seriously though, what do want him to say? My manager was right to overuse chapman, he was the only decent reliever we have...uh had. All the rest of these guys are garbage! Or I love all my guys. My manager is an idiot. Not much he can say.
  24. And vice versa. Sports fans are ridiculous. Before I moved to Cardinal country, I was mostly ambivalent about the cardinals. Most Cubs fans I know are as well. I hated the Astros, mets, cards, in that order. After living there for a few years I love to razz my cards fan friends. But many/most cardinal fans genuinely love to hate the Cubs and have a weird insecurity about them. There's also the extrem big brother syndrome about all things Chicago contributing as well as (where I was, on the Illinois side of the river) the hatred of Chicago's domination of state politics. It really is different than typical fan rivalry hatred.
