  1. Why put Zagunis on the 40 man before you have to? You have 4 quality outfielders on the major league team and a Javy Baez that can push 2 more there. The 5th outfielder, Iowa shuttle guy is supposed to be someone who gets no playing time, admittedly more like last year's Kawasaki than Szczur. Unless someone loses a leg again. You don't have to unless the need arises, because Szczur doesn't really belong on the 25 man. The 40 man roster isn't much of an obstacle anyway, if Szczur isn't around there's an open spot, and Andreoli's presence on the 40 man itself proves that it's not stuffed to the gills with quality that you can't easily find space for someone. I'm fairly certain Andreoli isn't on the 40 man.

  3. Actually I think its pretty likely Andreoli takes Szczur's spot. if szczur doesn't make the team (prob won't), it'll be for lastella Yep. and Andreoli gets put on the 40 man and kept in AAA only to see real ML playing time if someone rips their leg off. Basically Szczur's spot.
  4. Well, thanks for taking the high road. Dude, you make fun of yourself in the game threads, knowing you say irrational stuff. Its expected. The shock of you not doing that is no different than Andreoli taking Szczur's spot, in my mind. Actually I think its pretty likely Andreoli takes Szczur's spot.
  5. I saw Glenallen Hill hit the scoreboard at colors while on my honeymoon in may of 2000.
  6. can you narrow down the range beyond "before 2010?" I had a baby in my arms... my daughters were born in 2004 and 2007. So, after April 2004. My memory is old beyond its years. Edit: found it! June 11, 2004. Nine consecutive hits vs. Cardinals. It was really shaping up to be an amazing year. http://articles.latimes.com/2004/jun/11/sports/sp-nl11
  7. I can't find any record of this online, but some time before 2010, the Cubs had 10 consecutive hits in wrigley. They announced over the pa that it tied a major league record. In 2010 the Rockies broke that record with 11.
  8. Boo to this thread title.
  9. Guessing the kid can't hit lefties with a long swing like that.
  10. I'll go out on a limb and say it was definitely the best NLCS game 6 in Wrigley history. that was mean.
  11. away games.
  12. Someone should try to make like a...top 20 moments of some year like 2011 just to really appreciate we've got 40 moments left that all took place after the middle of October. I cannot think of one moment that I can definitively say is from the 2011 season. I'm sure that if I looked up the season on B-R there would be a number of games I'd say 'oh i remember that' but 2010 thru the first 2 months of 2014 is one giant blur to me. Once the Cubs started going on that winning streak in late June 2014, Shark was traded and there started to be rumors of Javy coming up, everything comes back into focus. Here are 3: June 2011: Jim Hendry drafts Javier Baez with 1st round pick. Theo Epstein notices and realizes that the Cubs finally "get it" August 2011: Jim Hendry is fired October 2011: Theo Epstein is named President of Baseball Operations and he names Jed Hoyer as GM My mind is pretty fuzzy in my old age, but weren't there reports that Jim Hendry was "relieved of duty" several months before he was fired, and had nothing to do with the Javy pick? Maybe they asked Theo who he wanted?
  13. Thanks for the memories. No ill will against Dex for getting paid. Hard to feel sorry for him when he's getting paid and got to win a world series with Cubs. Hard to be mad since we didn't have to give him the big paycheck and got the benefit of his career year. Hope he does great and the cardinals find amazing ridiculous ways to lose. All good feels.
  14. I guess I don't watch as much sportscenter as I used to, and had only heard of his attempt at baseballing here at NSB. I just kind of shrugged it off as a non-thing. I just don't get the hate, but if it is filling up people's news feed it would get old. Growing up in South Bend I grew to dislike Notre Dame because, when looking for Cubs news, all I could get in the paper or local news was that Lou Holtz's mother-in-law had a hangnail - front page. I could see it getting old. people in the twitterverse noted a couple days ago that MLB itself had promoted Tebow over social media far more frequently than they had the greatest player in the league, Trout. Yeah, that's Holtzian. I get it now.

  16. I'm confused by this stance. Is it because: 1) You don't want the Mets to have an additional asset. - meh, I'm not really threatened by the Mets, but I can see not wanting good things for other teams. 2) Not wanting athlete's of other sports thinking they can just "pick-up" baseball. - as long as you felt the same way about Jordan, I'm ok with this. or is this 3) or simple dislike of Tim Tebow? - I don't understand those who feel this way. Some people over-rated him/He got too much attention for his talent level, but I didn't see him do anything worthy of the hate some people have for him. I don't have any particular love for Tebow, but I don't wish him any ill will.
  17. So many big moments. Someone should do a thread of top 108 moments of 2016.
  18. If we'd had a decent winter, TB would be dead.
  19. Baseball season's underway!
  20. http://nypost.com/2017/02/21/this-is-how-yankees-can-maximize-their-shortstop-studs/ Think this is an overlooked component of the cubs' success. It is especially important for a team that play 20% more day games than anyone else.
  21. read your response before I read the tweet. Proceeded to read Hitters as Hitler. Never use hitter at the beginning of a sentence.
  22. I dont recall Lackey winning one. Those other three and Wood would be my guess. 3 yes, 1 no
