  1. I guess I don't watch as much sportscenter as I used to, and had only heard of his attempt at baseballing here at NSB. I just kind of shrugged it off as a non-thing. I just don't get the hate, but if it is filling up people's news feed it would get old. Growing up in South Bend I grew to dislike Notre Dame because, when looking for Cubs news, all I could get in the paper or local news was that Lou Holtz's mother-in-law had a hangnail - front page. I could see it getting old. people in the twitterverse noted a couple days ago that MLB itself had promoted Tebow over social media far more frequently than they had the greatest player in the league, Trout. Yeah, that's Holtzian. I get it now.

  3. I'm confused by this stance. Is it because: 1) You don't want the Mets to have an additional asset. - meh, I'm not really threatened by the Mets, but I can see not wanting good things for other teams. 2) Not wanting athlete's of other sports thinking they can just "pick-up" baseball. - as long as you felt the same way about Jordan, I'm ok with this. or is this 3) or simple dislike of Tim Tebow? - I don't understand those who feel this way. Some people over-rated him/He got too much attention for his talent level, but I didn't see him do anything worthy of the hate some people have for him. I don't have any particular love for Tebow, but I don't wish him any ill will.
  4. So many big moments. Someone should do a thread of top 108 moments of 2016.
  5. If we'd had a decent winter, TB would be dead.
  6. Baseball season's underway!
  7. http://nypost.com/2017/02/21/this-is-how-yankees-can-maximize-their-shortstop-studs/ Think this is an overlooked component of the cubs' success. It is especially important for a team that play 20% more day games than anyone else.
  8. read your response before I read the tweet. Proceeded to read Hitters as Hitler. Never use hitter at the beginning of a sentence.
  9. I dont recall Lackey winning one. Those other three and Wood would be my guess. 3 yes, 1 no
  10. [offtopic][/offtopic] I've said that about a dozen or so of these, "how did he find (x number) better than this. It really speaks to how many huge moments there were. I think Rizzo in particular must be addicted to his own adrenaline at the point.
  11. pitchers and catchers report earlier than position players, yada yada yada, the bisque was good. Right, nevermind that plenty of other players are reporting early. I don't think Rizzo thinks he's a catcher, but he's there. Definitely not meant to be taken seriously.
  12. How cute, Schwarber thinks he's still a catcher.
  13. This just in: David Rollins has been DFA'd again.
  14. You are giving too much credit to your former STL brethren Between this, the reds stadium pic and using the Astros draft board, this has to be intentional at this point, no?
  15. Between this and the reds stadium pic, this has to be intentional at this point, no?
  16. Im pretty sure it was a Tom House (who was basically Mark Prior's pitching guru) thing.
  17. The funny thing is, his range cost the Cubs an out here. With anyone else at third, Russel makes the play.
  18. A 14 man staff with multiple off days in the early schedule? I don't see it. Someone gets cut, or more likely someone opens the season on the DL. With as much injury history as this team has, there's no doubt there's someone with "tightness" by the end of ST.
  19. There are 14 names above. I added the options status of each. I took a beating a month or so ago by suggesting that the Cubs should add enough pitchers to walk in to spring training with no room for Edwards. I made the mistake of saying that he would ostensibly be off the theoretical (nonexistent in spring training) 25 man in spring training but also suggested that injuries (or DFA's) would assure that he would be on the 25 by opening day. That is exactly what has happened here. Make no mistake, I believe that Edwards will be on the 25 man come opening day. But Theo has added enough arms that there isn't enough room for everyone on ML contract and Edwards and Z. Add in NRI's and its still more crowded. If everyone is healthy and performs, Edwards is the odd man out. In theory, not in reality.
  20. Its the second time Friedman has traded for him. Very theo-esque.
  21. Fair enough. I was just positing a guess at what toonster meant by "this climate"
  22. The kind who has been on WebMD all day instead of doing his job updating this amazing list.
  23. What would motivate Atlanta to make this sort of move? I'm not even sure Teheran alone is something that we could go after (I mean, in this climate, Teheran might not a stronger return than some think), and all the young arms are intriguing enough that I doubt the Braves move any of them at this stage unless it's a no-brainer, knock your socks off deal. - Bats for arms - What's the in this climate...part mean? That over the past few years young, cost-controlled, healthy arms seem to be at a premium, whereas just a few years ago the dearth of power hitters seemed to cause the opposite to be true?
  24. I'll take the over and not think twice.
