  1. I'm in favor of taking a (another) chance on Nomar. But the argument for Furcal is that Nomar is injury prone, and Cedeno could be a AAAA player. So overpriced production is better than Neifi's anti-production. so could murton but there is nothing to indicate that either of them are. if cedeno can play great d and hit .280 with 15 hr's and a good obp (he also has very good speed and might steal a few bases), i would be very satisfied with him playing ss. I didn't say I agree with it, I simply stated that was the argument. You'll find that I seldom offer strong opinions. This tendancy makes me a very boring read. But since you mentioned it.... No there's nothing to indicate that Cedeno is a AAAA player. Given the sample size there's little to suggest that he's not. He had limited playing time, and as much as I hate that he used it as an excuse not to play them, it is true that given a larger sample size, and more exposure to the league, Cedeno's numbers could plummet. Its been called the sophomore slump (see Williams, Jerome). The truth is that starting the season with Cedeno as a starter would be a risk. A worthwhile risk? Perhaps. If Neifi is the other option, Cedeno is absolutely a worthwhile risk (Baker's Neifi love notwithstanding). If Furcal is the other option, perhaps Cedeno is not my guy.

  3. Unsettled Closer Situation first 6 weeks --10% Poor Bullpen (other than closer, i.e., setup men and specialists) -- 10% Low OBP -- 20% Bad Defense -- 10% Lack of Situational Hitting -- 5% Poor Managing/Strategy -- 20% no doubt about it. Too Many Key Injuries 20% -- Starting pitching was a problem because of injuries. Add to that Nomar, Walker, Ramirez...yeah. GM not properly filling obvious holes/needs -- 15% This ties into the low OBP though. I know that's 110%. These guys went above and beyond the expected 100% in suckiness.
  4. I don't see that he has much of a choice but to take a $15MM pay cut.
  5. Bull

    So, Bruce...

Speaking of lawyers, what does the fine print in your sig say, JC?
  6. And this is why Dusty will return. Again, despite everyone's misgivings, Dusty has provided somewhat of a winner here. [/hijack] If by "provided" you mean "abused and damaged the winner he was given when he arrived", I agree with you. This is my favorite kind of message board message. "If by x you mean the exact opposite of x, then I agree with you." I love it. Message board wit at its best. Sorry I'm in an annoyingly cheerful and reflective mood today.
  7. hmm... hmm.... hmm..... No
  8. From the artictle I read this is a leak and an innacurate one. Its not that Raffy implicated Tejada, but more that he was listing the things he DID take. This list included the B-12 from Tejada.
  9. You can always count on NCCubbie. Obviously Santo didn't want rank himself. The 3B ratings should be seen as the best not including Santo, not that he views all five as better than him.
  10. I'm a big fan of bringing Nomar back, if the price is right. So let's speculate on what its going to take and who the major players will be (assuming there isn't already a thread on this?) Someone suggested 2.5 plus incentives in another thread. I expect about 4+ up to 8 more in incentives. Seattle? Philly, NYY? White Sox?
  11. I think Nomar owes it to the Cubs to take that deal. Think he'll see it that way?
  12. Pushes him up .306 ba for the 2nd half of the year. So your saying his OBP is about .307? Nope .295
  13. Me too. Me three. Way back in January there was a baseball america article interviewing Hughes and Eddie Bane, juxtaposing them to two stat guys. Required reading for every Cubs fan looking to understand this organization IMHO. link to debate link to NSBB thread discussing debate
  14. I would guess he'd handle the pitchers better as well.
  15. So the Cards will clinch in wrigley. Great.
  16. Is it too late to take the over?
  17. Its got to happen eventually doesn't it? Doesn't it???
  18. THIS isn't getting depressing.
  19. I know its a small sample size, but R/L splits are less than spectacular.
  20. I found it shocking when reviewing Maddux's stats that he has more losses as a Cub than as a Brave. 317-185 overall in 20 seasons 123-97 as a Cub in 9 seasons 194-88 as a Brave in 11 Season This is more a testament to the Cubs having bad teams and the Braves having winners than it is to Maddux's "best years" being in Atanta (he had some great years with so-so records in Chicago). Though both are factors. Not trying to make any point about keeping maddux or not, just found it interesting.
  21. 9 inning 2 hitter... um wait. 7 innings 125-75 lifted for PH Jose Macias
  22. These are what I would do, not what I think the Cubs will. Probably not hoops' intention. Sorry. C. Buy him out. I'd rather have stinkin' Lawton than Burnitz. A. Walker is on of the few bright spots on this team. C. I more year, one more chance. B. Anything that reminds us of Sammy is bad. Go away Jerry C. Next year is Nomar's year. 3B? Just kidding. SS C. Near then end of the season, Get as large a "good" sample as possible to offset this year's "superhuman" sample in negotiations. B. He's found his niche. A. no one will give him more than 2M, and the Cubs will have to eat salary to trade him.
  23. I'm positive this team stinks. Someone had to say it.
