  1. To sum up the rest of what "NO" doesn't answer: * Most people here think they know who they are * But some people still doubt that they are who they say they are But most importantly, all but one of us believe Bruce Miles is Bruce Miles.
  2. I think that it is tied to playing time. A prospect gets more AB's in the minors, and can work on palte discipline more. Add the Dusty factor and so much more so.
  3. I really believe Hendry's plan for the outfield is via trade, not Free Agency
  4. Anyone else notice that Bruce gets really quiet here when something big is on the horizon? Or when there's nothing significant to say. *sigh*
  5. I've met NCCubbiefan, and you, sir, are no NCCubbieFan.
  6. I still think the Fish should have gotten more - say, Hanley and Lester. Well yeah, but Ramirez and Sanchez is still a pair of quality prospects. This isn't Ramirez for Hill and Bruback, which is the impression I'm getting reading parts of this thread. An under acheiving can't miss middle infield prospect and a good but not "A+" pitching prospect for a questionable third baseman. (and don't kid yourself, at the time of the trade, Aramis was very questionable. link You're right!! The Marlins are throwing in a frontline pitcher and cash too! The Pie-Rats threw in Kenny Lofton. i wouldn't mention bruback and "A+" in the same sentence. That's what I was saying. He was good, but not a top prospect.

  8. I've always thought that this is why Cedeno is playing SS in winter ball.
  9. Everytime I see someone make this allusion, I can't help but think about Brant Brown 1988.
  10. That's what I was trying to say with point a. THanks for clearing it up.
  11. How old is Pierre? I thought they have done many studies on "speedster single hitters" and how their production falls after a certain age. Pierre turned 28 in August, and is a free agent after this season. This should make him pretty cheap for the Cubs player wise...right? Cuse, they've been speculating all morning on the Score (take with a grain of salt) that they're talking up a straight swap of Patterson for Pierre. I'm not high on Pierre, but I would do that deal in half a second and walk away from the bargaining table laughing my head off. I think you underestimate Patterson's future. I'd do the deal, but I'd consider it a good deal for both sides.
  12. I was thinking "let them eat cake", but yeah.
  13. according to BBC news. Not enough evidence. I would assume this means a) that it is theoretically possible that he started taking steroids after the hearing, or b) that the MLB test will ot stand up in court.
  14. Mench's numbers make him look like a right handed Burnitz. Why would the Cubs need to give up a prospect along with Walker to get a worse player? That's my thinking as well. Mench over Burnitz because: He's younger, he's cheaper and he has more upside. I like the trade if the cubs get a prospect.
  15. Kind of how Cubs fans felt about Ankiel: Felt sorry for him, hoped he got it together somewhere, just not in St Louis!
  16. It seems the Cubs don't want Nomar back. Its a decision I think they'll regret.
  17. I found the article respectful and well written. It is true that management will consider this factor, but its not really neccessary for readers to hear it.
  18. He did, and everything we know about Hendry leads us to believe that he will honor that request, but Walker is the last of the pot-stirrers left on this team, hendry might want him gone.
  19. No, it'll be for 13.5 million. They will either pay him 13.5, or 3 million to buy out the contract. 3 million is sunk. it's 10.5 or 0. That depends on what year you think the buyout is put towards. It doesn't matter to what year the $3 million buyout is allocated. The decision that will have to be made is whether it's worth spending an additional 10.5 million for an additional year of Kerry Wood's services. If you think the buyout is allocated towards '06, then Wood either counts 13.5 million, or nothing towards the '07 payroll. I'm pretty sure that's the decision Warpticon was referring to. The decision is worth 10.5 million dollars because the 3 million is a sunk cost; i.e it cannot be avoided. Re-allocating things to different accounting periods doesn't change anything. The decision is worth $10.5 million. Everyone is right! In actual cost it doesn't change anything, but in determining the budget, its a significant difference. I'm such a mediator...somebody shoot me.
  20. So why isn't this guy banned yet?
  21. Don't you know? Defence is only important up the middle.
  22. I think there's usually a potential FA thread that includes all the info you're looking for.
  23. No kidding. I'd blame Rocket for that. And I agree with SSR and Tree. oooh oooh!! I want to agree with someone!
