    Looks like MLB and the Cubs say Eyre and Howry are on and Moore is not. And for the Cubs to add Mabry, someone must be moved from the 40 man. My original statement remains 100% iron clad. As to Greenburg, I feel he will be a journeyman 4th or 5th OF at best. He is no Jimmy Wynn, he's not even a Freddie Patek or David Eckstein. Smaller players need to do one thing really well-get on base and steal, outstanding fielder or have unusual power. He has none of them. don't confuse cubs.com with the cubs front office. They've put Howry and Eyre on that list because they are the hot signings and either have been added or certainly will be. They have no more idea what the corresponding roster mover were/are/shall be than you or I. and the -- just means they don't have a major league number. That's okay, you have company. Just reporting the news, boys. Am I missing something?

I'm not the grammar police, and I usually don't post things like that. I was as impressed by your vocabulary as I was ...uh... depressed by the wordo. Didn't mean to sound haughty or condescending. Sorry if I offended. I love irony, that's all. :D

    I'll go a step further and say that often GM's don't know what other gm's bid on players. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if they share that info, isn't it collusion? (Mark Grudzelaniek, anyone?) I think if anyone would be sharing that information it would be the player's agent. "So and so is offering us X dollars and Y years. Can you beat that?". And it's okay for agents to lie, but not ok for gm's to tell the truth.

    I think that it is tied to playing time. A prospect gets more AB's in the minors, and can work on palte discipline more. Add the Dusty factor and so much more so.

    I still think the Fish should have gotten more - say, Hanley and Lester. Well yeah, but Ramirez and Sanchez is still a pair of quality prospects. This isn't Ramirez for Hill and Bruback, which is the impression I'm getting reading parts of this thread. An under acheiving can't miss middle infield prospect and a good but not "A+" pitching prospect for a questionable third baseman. (and don't kid yourself, at the time of the trade, Aramis was very questionable. link You're right!! The Marlins are throwing in a frontline pitcher and cash too! The Pie-Rats threw in Kenny Lofton. i wouldn't mention bruback and "A+" in the same sentence. That's what I was saying. He was good, but not a top prospect.

    How old is Pierre? I thought they have done many studies on "speedster single hitters" and how their production falls after a certain age. Pierre turned 28 in August, and is a free agent after this season. This should make him pretty cheap for the Cubs player wise...right? Cuse, they've been speculating all morning on the Score (take with a grain of salt) that they're talking up a straight swap of Patterson for Pierre. I'm not high on Pierre, but I would do that deal in half a second and walk away from the bargaining table laughing my head off. I think you underestimate Patterson's future. I'd do the deal, but I'd consider it a good deal for both sides.

    according to BBC news. Not enough evidence. I would assume this means a) that it is theoretically possible that he started taking steroids after the hearing, or b) that the MLB test will ot stand up in court.

    Mench's numbers make him look like a right handed Burnitz. Why would the Cubs need to give up a prospect along with Walker to get a worse player? That's my thinking as well. Mench over Burnitz because: He's younger, he's cheaper and he has more upside. I like the trade if the cubs get a prospect.

    It seems the Cubs don't want Nomar back. Its a decision I think they'll regret.
