  1. He similarly nixed a trade to Cincy a couple years ago, he probably feels the same way he did then. I think he's a real pro and will handle it just fine. He played left field a couple years ago, was his defense adequate? If he can defend in left, does anyone think we can get him for Mitre and have SD eat some of his salary. Not unless the Cubs have moved San Jose while I wasn't looking.
  2. some of us saw it annoying when it was starting. they weren't as bad as they were playing, but they aren't this good either. Chase Utley for the Phillies is great. I love all the main sites and sourses saying the phils are shopping Billy Wagner. Yeah in the heat of the playoff race they are going to get rid of their closer. viewtopic.php?t=22446&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 I was nearly laughed off the board for suggesting it, but I'm now convinced that Houston is the team to beat in the WC race. And don't count Washington out so fast. [-X
  3. Craig - That sounds good in theory, but if Nomar does get injured again next year, and Cedno does start, Hendry will have to find and Enrique Wilson-esque backup. That back-up will magically find his way into the lineup and Cedeno to the bench. So, clearly, I can not chose the glass infront of me! (there's no undermining Dusty's dizzying intelect)
  4. I think starting out, he'll be the first option off the bench. If recovery is slow, he could remain there.
  5. Bobby Dernier Mitch Williams And how has noone said GA Hill?
  6. At this point 11-7 would be considered a success. The STL series is key. Must take 2of3.
  7. What does the amount of money one makes have to do with it? If a sales manager sucks, does an intern(s) have a right to boo him? Is the intern under contract? Is corey boo-ing his boss? Are they doing sales in front of 20k drunk people who hope that they make the sale and have been hoping for years? I understand what you are trying to say, but this is a ridiculous example. If you understand what I'm saying, then it is not a ridiculous example. I stated an intern because it could be an intern from a whole different department. The whole point is the fans pay money to see a game. You boo if your seat comes loose, you boo if the lights don't work for a night game, you boo if some idiot runs on the field, but paying money and wanting to see a champion doesn't mean it's okay to boo a player. What sense does it make to boo your player and not boo the opposing player(s) who may be dominating your team? My grandparents are stockholders of merck. They were booing in 2002.
  8. Two more series' left and the Cubs are 12.5 back. That losing streak didn't help, but if they can make up a game or two, they're in good shape heading into the Cardinals difficult part of the schedule.
  9. Prior out THis is gonna be one tired bullpen
  10. wish blanco was calling this game....oh wait.
  11. He got his hit yesterday... That was his June hit. Flames was hoping for his July hit.
  12. I'm not trying to put you down, but you won't find many people here who pay attention to pitchers' W-L records, especially not ones that date back to the 1980's. You're right about folks here not valuing W/L, but nolanwood DOES make a good point about the relative value in the contracts the Cubs are paying Prior and Z. If those numbers were redistributed, I don't think anyone would have a problem. I Would! You don't pay someone with that little service time $9MM. I know your point is production, but mine is that you must have guys with less than 6 years service time (and thus a bargain salary) producing for you. And you must be fiscally responsible with veterans. If you don't, you can't afford to put quality pieces on the rest of the roster.
  13. I was looking. :) that's the point. Don't count anyone out. It wouldn't shock me.
  14. STL 4-2 vs the dregs of the division Cubs 4-1 vs the sox and Brewers. If they can keep this up thorough this stretch, the division is not an unrealistic goal. Ah yes, the SMALL sample size STL 26-9 vs the NL Central CHC 18-14 vs NL Central 4-2 is a .667 pace, 4-1 is an .800 pace. How realistic is expecting the Cubs to win 8 of every 10 games? It has nothing to do with sample size. It was an update of my original post. 1) this stretch is key, 2) here's how they're doing thus far. Sorry I wasn't clearer.
  15. Will they make another push like last year?
  16. STL 4-2 vs the dregs of the division Cubs 4-1 vs the sox and Brewers. If they can keep this up thorough this stretch, the division is not an unrealistic goal.
  17. If you think Hairston Walker and Cedeno will all be on the bench, how will Neifi cover 2nd and SS?
  18. yeah end of july and August the cards play Sd, LA, FLA, Atl, and a quality Cubs team 7 times
  19. I got squirtgun... ...um ...yeah
  20. Agreed. This stretch is a make or break for the wildcard and the division. In my mind its all build up for the Cardinals series.
  21. What, they don't get WGN in Romania? Who knew? If the Cubs can stay within ten games of the Cards after that stretch, they'll be in good shape. Maybe not for the division, but they'll be right in it for the WC I think this stretch is key. If our cubbies can start the series with the cards back by less than 10, i think the've got a shot at the division. If they start that series more than 15 back, chances are slim. The Cards have a light schedule in july, so the cubs are going to have to play the kind of ball that saw them take 2 of 3 from the Sox.
  22. Approaching the thrre game series between the Cubs and Cards on July 22nd, here are each teams schedules. Cubs 3@CWS .690 3vsMIL .451 3vsWAS .583 4@ATL .535 3@FLA .542 4vsPIT .457 4@CIN .403 Cards 4vsPIT .457 2vsCIN .403 4vsCOL .314 4@ARi .493 3@SF .429 3vsHOU .443 3vsMIL .451 How many games back do you expect the CUbs to be when that series begins. Realistically, it could be 12-15 at that point.
  23. Vance has officially gone off the deep end. I'm waiting for the evil laugh.
  24. The rash of injuries could be blessings in disguise. If the Cubs make the playoffs, Prior and Wood won't be run down by overuse.
