    Again, this isn't his funeral. Why can't people talk about him openly? Why do people have to pretend he was some great person and not have the opportunity to discuss what kind of human he was? You can talk about whatever you like, but some people have respect for the deceased and don't use his death as an opportunity to talk badly about him. Someone else quoted my grandmother (thank you for adding to her fame) in this thread. She said, "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." Its these words (among others) that have made my grandmother the legendary orator she is, and they are particularly relevant in situations like this. As for myself, I know that Kirby is in the hands of a merciful God who understands justice on a level you and I never will. He knows the motives of the heart and and knows what allegations are true or false. Kirby lived his life as he saw fit and will be judged accordingly. As for me, I lack insight or evidence to judge him - I'll let God do His job. May God have mercy on his soul.

    Yeah, I read it a few times and still don't get it. But that's what happens when Dusty talks. I think he's saying since Cedeno did so well in winter ball, Cedeno thinks he can walk into Arizona and rip the cover off the ball. Maybe he's trying to do too much. er..something

    AAA is mostly spare parts anyway. Obviously there are way too many variables too make this work...ever. But weve joked for years that Pittsburgh is the Cubs' AAAA team. THere's little difference these days between spare parts from Pittsburgh and spare parts from Iowa.

    How is trading for Nomar a bad idea? It didn't work out as planned, but I don't think it set us back much. We got Murton, and Neifi played for KGon. Yeah but the money is the issue. Rather use that money for help at midseason and stick with Walker for now. Or let Washington get so desperate that money is no longer an issue. That I souldn't have a problem with. Just as wouldn't have had a problem with Nomar at 5+incentives. But paying someone big bucks to not play is never fun.

    Injury prone, yeah. Average, no. There's a difference between being bad, and just being injury prone. Kerry is injury prone, but not near "bad". BTW, how's Ben Sheets' latest rehab going? :wink: Im not saying Kerry Wood is a bad pitcher i'm saying at this point he's average. Maybe that's due to all the injuries, but the last two years have been pretty average. Even in his best years ('01 and '03) he was only 8th and 9th in the league in era. Every year he's been in the top ten in K's he's also been in the top ten in BB. I don't think after all his injuries he can ever return to that 03 form, therefore I think of his as an average pitcher. Ben Sheet's rehab is going well, no set backs yet. He's on pace to start opening day for the 5th straight year. First ST game for him tomorrow. Only 8th and 9th in the league, eh? Out of how many starters? And that's not even factoring in BAA, WHIP, K/9ip... I'd say he's decidedly above average. Oh, for a bit of health! Maybe he means he's an average #1 starter. :)

    Unforunately, that's what we've said for the past two years. I agree and they still have three pretty decent starters. If they add Huff or another RBI guy to go along with Berkman they will be tough. To me, the key for the Cubs is obvious, pitching. Lee will likely regress a little, Aramis hopefully will produce, but the Cubs have to find someone to step up in the five slot and table set in the two slot. Pierre will be fine at the top of the order. Hopefully Walker comes out hot in ST and then produces at career norms, that would go a long way to solidifying the lineup. I am optimistic about Murton and Cedeno but I don't think we should count on either of them to be diffence makers. All and all, I am hopeful but not optimistic. I'd have to agree. I'm hopeful but not optimistic, too. There are ifs contingent to this team's success. If the Cubs stay healthy, they could make the playoffs. If the younger players produce offensively... If pitchers get injured and Hill and/or Guzman perform well... If Hendry is able to add a power hitting, all-star caliber RFer... So, I'm hopeful. It can happen. But I would be optimistic if Giles had been signed. Same if's the past 4 years. The stars have to align eventually, don't they?

    Walker turns 33 in May. What are the chances he significantly declines this year? I meant at this stage of his relationship with Hendry, Baker and the Cubs. Not this age. I think he's perfectly capable of being a starting 2B. He'd be my starting 2B on this roster and hit 2nd in the order unless I could trade him for a significant upgrade elsewhere while getting adequate production at his position. I know that's what you meant. Perhaps the question fits in the Walker discussion better.
