  1. I think Bedard could be a competent 2/3 starter if he manages to keep himself healthy. Markakis seems like he'll be a pretty good OF and Loewen looks like the ground ball version of Rich Hill. Along with Tejada, I'd happily have any of those guys in this organization. But, that kind of move just signals desperation and idiocy on Jim Hendry's part, in my opinion. I'm still concerned about Prior because some one must have thrown a black cat at him, but the fact remains that he has the potential to be the best starting pitcher in baseball and that he'll be under the Cubs' control until 2008. He is the kind of guy I do NOT want to find myself looking back on after watching him win a bunch of Cy Youngs and saying to myself, "I remember when he used to be a Cub...he was pretty good..." while drowning my sorrows in a pint of beer. He's on the same level as Zambrano, in my mind. The multiteam aspect of this deal has me curious, though. I'd like to know who the third and (potentially) fourth teams are and what players are rumored to be moved. Maybe he'll be shipping Derrek Lee off to Boston in exchange for Matt Clement! The 3rd team? My guess would be the Angels. Rotoworld says the third team is the Red Sox and Manny...surprise! Boston gets: Prior Baltimore gets: Manny CHN gets: Tejada and Bedard obviously others would have to be involved to complete the deal. I say skip Tejada. Prior for Manny straight up.
  2. They were #2 and #3 in ERA in an absolutely loaded league(Both made BA's top 20 for the Southern League as well, IIRC). Pinto and Nolasco are good prospects. You may think that they are worth Pierre, but let's not devalue them by calling them 'mediocre at best' or 'middle relievers'. Feel free to call them whatever you want. I wish to call them middle relief prospects. Why? because they were. The better one was the fifth best pitching prospect in the system. Assuming Wood Prior and Zambrano are staples, that puts 4 prospects ahead of Nolasco for the last two spots in the 2009? rotation. In this system Nolasco and Pinto were destined for trade or middle relief.
  3. Thanks for all the help guys. Torres and Dibble have already been added, and other whose cards I'm looking for.
  4. Why Finley? Was he the bane of the '84 playoffs?
  5. Was that an intentional double entendre? ????Range factor or Radio frequency????
  6. Merker??? also is Torres the one who hit Sammy effectively ending his career? Great list by the way.
  7. I am working on a list of players most hated by Cubs fans. I am using their cards for one of the walls in my billiards room. Most of my cards are 1985-1992, but I'd be willing to go out and buy say a Roy Ozwalt card, simply because he belongs. So far I've got: Keith Hernandez (I've just always hated him) Eric Show (Knocked Dawson out) Dwight Gooden (killed the Cubs) Willie McGee (Cub killer) Joakin Andujar (jerk) legitimate reasons to put guys on the bad guys list include: Big hit against the Cubs, hitting a Cub batter, general jerk. Please help me with the list.
  8. None at all. He's better than that. I guess he's in the back-up-for-a-contender-or-start-for-the-Royals category.
  9. Have 2, their small. They also have an infielder by that name. I've always heard it as "take two; they're cheap" either way,
  10. replace the atlanta.braves with stlouis.cardinals, and you get the same page. I think you could substitute any mlb team and get the same page. How he got the Atlanta link I don't know. I'm guessing it was accessed from a link at the bottom of the Braves mlb page.
  11. If we do land Bradley, what other vialble alternatives do the Yanks have to fill their CF vacancy? I say we hold Pierre over their heads and fleece them, put Bradley in CF, use Wang or whoever we can get from them in a trade for a RFer. You know they have to be desperate to fill that hole. Anyone know if there was compensation given to the Cubs for the signing of Little?
  12. Yeah, but that's the part of the equation we had right already. I think Pierre scores 100 with Lee and ARam 3&4, but I'm not sure its enough to make the offense great. As usual, this year depends on Wood and Prior. If Zambrano is the best starter, the season will not be a success. Um... Zambrano is probably the best pitcher even if they are all 3 healthy and pitching the best baseball of their lives. EDIT: I take that back. I thought about it and decided that, in game 7 of the World Series, I definitely want Prior on the mound over Z. Your first statement is right, but Wood and Prior have higher ceilings. Maybe I overstated it, but the point is that if Prior and Wood don't step up and fulfill their potential, this team goes nowhere. If they do step up, the difference between Abreu and J. Jones, or the difference between Pierre and Patterson won't keep the Cubs out of the playoffs. Its all about pitching.
  13. Not only that, but the O's will want quality not quantity. You try fitting 4 extra players on their 40 man.
  14. there was. But now there's knot. Just the response I was looking for. :D

  18. Thread title change? Pierre gone after this year? KingKonan gone after this post? Am I missing something? Also, I don't want Pie leading off. That is not a role that he should have to fill during his career. He has shown throughout his minor league career that he is going to have a high walk rate. Granted, he can change that but it isn't very likely. If they aren't going to sign Pierre to an extension, I really don't understand the trade... Apparently I am. Thought the post was old and that he posted once and dissappeared. Welcome to the forum Konan.
  19. Pierre = Out-at-third-trying-to-stretch-a-double-into-a-triple. I know its long and awkward, but I think you'll be surprised how it catches on. The announcers will be using it on a regular basis.
  20. I personally think it was a good move for the Cardinals not to resign him. His velocity was way down and he started to come apart at the end of the year. Not saying he won't do good but in my opinion it's very risky for that many years and money. Morris comes apart at the end of every year.....he's had dead arm issues for quite some time. I think it was a good move not to resign him....on the flipside, they lose the option of Marquis as trade bait, and they have multiple holes that need to be addressed, and the free agent market this year isnt/hasnt helped them out. let the old man walk, get the draft pick and start Reyes. I don't see the Cards falling off as much as most people do this year.
  21. I'd like to see Guzman in the pen where he might stay healthy.
  22. That has always been my understanding. 2002 - $72 million 2004 - $83.2 2005 - $92.1 stl business journal
  23. Thread title change? Pierre gone after this year? KingKonan gone after this post?
  24. Some people bring something to the table, other don't. um.....he brings a lot more to the table than you do. play nice, boys
  25. No need to be realistic here, there's a whole other thread for that.
