  1. Is he still alive? even at 60-70 years old, he may be the Cubs solution to no Left handed BP pitcher.
  2. I've got Huff and Pena on the DL... Stupid injuries!
  3. Anyone else read the part about the arm injury?!?
  4. aha, thanks Here on the east coast, I was long since in bed.
  5. He wasn't even close to 92-93 with his two-seamer. He wasn throwing anywhere from the mid 80's to 90. Topped 90 with his four-seamer a few times. Didn't throw his slider much at all. But I would rather have Z go 6 innings and give up one run throwing at that speed that throwing 95 and getting taged. With this start is it about impossible for Z to win Cy Young? You gotta have wins to ge the Cy Young right? It is April 19th and you are trying to give out the Cy Young already??? You do know the season goes all the way through September right? Who cares about the stupid award anyways, I want to worry about seeing the White Flag. A good or bad year for Z is most likely a good or bad year for the Cubs Z is a key cog, but there are 24 other men on the team.
  6. looks like the end of the game is missing from the game thread. What happened?
  7. I've said the same thing about Tex. Then complained about Alou batting anybody BUT Feliz in front of Bonds..... Tex, Bay and Huff are killing me. But Pujols, Ortiz and Berkman are overachieving.
  8. Speech! Speech! Happy bday, Bruce.
  9. Don't feel bad. Fielder is a late season choice anyway. Beltre and Jones should pick it up. Thomas...uh... Yeah, so Jones is good. I picked Milton Bradley...doh.
  10. Shouldn't that have an opposite effect? Hitting in front of the pitcher, wouldn't they occasionally unintentionally/intentionally walk the guy?
  11. Doesn't it feel good to finally be talking about Guzman pitching for the big club. with his luck, though, his arm will fall off during his next start.
  12. I think you mean OldCubsfan. Not unless they're the same person. Kessinger is on the list among the "not goods" of all time.
  13. I would love to see Don_Kessinger_was_good's take on this article.
  14. I think much of the "debate" is like two ships passing in the night and never catching sight of one another. No one to my knowledge has said that speed is a bad things. All else equal give me the faster guy. I think what has been discussed is the value of speed as a stand alone tool. In my opinon as a stand alone it has no real value at all. hits with speed>hits power with speed>power Field/arm with speed>field/arm Plate discipline with speed>plate discipline speed without any of the above = speed speed without any of the above = go run track, you no hit, no power, no glove, no arm, no eye loser.
  15. We have a day off tomorrow... shouldn't be a big deal. Anyway, did anyone thing the crowd reaction/tension in this game/energy makes this feel like a playoff game in April? That reaction to the Granny is reminicent of the crowd when Woody hit a HR in game 7, though obviously not QUITE as raucous. It just feels like a playoff game to me. Same camera shot as the Wood HR, that's probably why. that and the quality announcers
  16. They'll be fine the rest of the season. Their bad play in this series is all the fault of the cold showers.
  17. Izzy's ERA before today: 0.00 Currently; 13.50 I love the scewed stats at the beginning of the year
  18. I was just going to say that. It's not a matter of if they are going to mention it, it's when they are going to mention it. and how many times
  19. Derrek started off like a house afire last year. It was '04 when he had his typically slow start. Thanks. Obviously my memory filter was corrupted by the 2004-2005 debacle. I meant to reference the 2004 season. Yes, last season was a bit different as D. Lee had been a notorious slow starter. I will never claim to be a fountain of knowledge and I'm glad I have peeps here to cover my oversights! :D I guess 2004 and 2005 kind of bled together in my mind. I'm still in denial over the 2003 NLCS. I hear ya. I'm just now coming out of my cubbie-numbness from 2003. That's what happens when you watch the playoffs with Yankee fans.
  20. now arizona needs to beat milwaukee. well nevermind. milwaukee wins with a carlos lee walk off single, 5-4 Doesn't Milwaukee know they suck?
