  1. wow. Talk about over-reaction. Hendry will sign Z to a one year deal before spring training and have him signed to a multi-year deal before opening day. We've seen this with Wood, and Lee, and sort of with Ramirez.
  2. Collateral damage from giving away Ricky Nolasco for peanuts. Marquis most likely wouldn't be here if we still had Nolasco. Nolasco as a starter 9 10 4.96 22 119.2 Marshall 6 9 5.59 24 125.2 Why would nolasco have prvented them from bringing in Marquis?
  3. the irony is that the song about irony demonstrates that the writer does not understand irony. Exactly. Rain on your wedding day would only be ironic if your wedding was on a SUNday.
  4. Ha that would be fun to see. I got a ? how many lefty catchers have played in the majors. I feel like Ive never see any. If I have they didnt stick in my mind. anybody know? Wasn't villanueva a lefty? edit: did some research Mike Squires, Sox, 1980, and Dale Long, Cubs, 1958 edit,edit: did more research. Almost all played in the 1800's Games@C / Player 1,073 /Clements, Jack 272 /Trott, Sam 202 /Tate, Pop 186 /Sutcliffe, Sy 128 /Harbridge, Bill 99 /Hines, Mike 75 /Humphries, John 71 /Tenney, Fred 52 /Twineham, Art 50 /Baker, Phil 45 /Donahue, Jiggs 35 /Oldfield, Dave 34 /Householder, Charlie 21 /Malone, Fergy 16 /McMahon, Jack 12 /Krehmeyer, Charlie 7 /WallL, Joe 5 /Foster, Elmer 3 /DiStefano, Benny 3 /Hillebrand, Homer 2 /Egan, Jim 2 /Long, Dale 2 /Squires, Mike 1 /Cassidy, John 1 /Eden, Charlie 1 /Marr, Lefty 1 /Mullen, John 1 /Powell, Martin 1 /Redmon, Billy 1 /Short, Chris

  6. interesting. Is he stretching out to start? I know they've pinned him for the bullpen, but throwing that many pitches this early says rotation to me. Why, I've seen him throw that many in 2 innings! That's normal for even relievers to throw a lot of pitches warming up. I hope he didn't feel any pain or discomfort during or after. But in January?
  7. no way he opts out of that contract.

  9. I'd deal Z only if it makes the Cubs better and IMO ARod at SS or Miggy Cabrera at RF would do that. AROD (if he can play SS) or Cabrera yes, Miggy not so sure. Miggy is Cabrera Actually, I was just looking at his stats from last year and he had a solid year. Let me strike that. But I'd rather have Cabrera for his age and he still hasn't peaked yet. No, Miggy is Cabrera -- Miguel Cabrera. I'm not saying Tejada and Cabrera are similar, Cuse was referring to Cabrera. FATHER: No, no, just keep him in here-- GUARD #1: Until you, or anyone else,-- FATHER: No, not anyone else, just me-- GUARD #1: Just you. GUARD #2: Hic! FATHER: Get back. GUARD #1: Get back. FATHER: Right? GUARD #1: Right, we'll stay here until you get back. FATHER: And, uh, make sure he doesn't leave. GUARD #1: What? FATHER: Make sure 'e doesn't leave. GUARD #1: The Prince?
  10. It means exactly what the previous posters speculated. Perhaps he's holding back on his fastball or afraid to throw breaking pitches.I just wonder who his "guy" is that says this. I mean, he must be really lucky to have a guy around Prior like that because i'd assume there isn't too many people attending bullpen sessions. Tom House?

  12. If the pitcher throws at your head and misses for ball four. --edit: someone said this five days ago...I'm slow
  13. 48/192, .250/.300/.432/.732, 1 HBP, 17 BB, 41 K, 6 HR, 3 3B, 11 2B, 1/5 SB, 5 E Thank you. That's certainly less impressive than his playoff numbers. However, there are certainly a lot of positive things he can take out of this winter. I'd certainly think you weight the playoff numbers heavier. It looks like he working on specific things during the reg season, and concentrating on winning during the playoffs.

  15. pretty old news.
  16. I think thats why they waited for him to mention it first and are being so careful not to do anything without clearing it with him. They promised corner OF, and if he plays center this year it will be his idea.
  17. cubs.com Soriano mentions it in an interview. Then a fan asks the question. Apparently Piniella and Hendry were the last to discover this was a good idea. other thoughts: prelude to Floyd signing? prelude to a Jones trade?
  18. Apparently into the rotation by 2008 according to Levine. You have to start him in at least high A this year with a move to AA by the end of the year is the plan is for him start 2008 in the rotation.
  19. Excellent. Where did you see/hear that? Bruce Levine called into Dan Patrick's show to report it. I believe he said Samardzija could get up to 7 million. Trying to steal Hendry's thunder is he? I wondered what that horrible sound was coming out of Southbend. South Bend __________ Newyorkers  Why was it ok to misspell football in what you quoted but not South Bend? Because I'm from South Bend (actually Mishawaka, but they're the same town)
  20. It's been reported in recent days that you might see Samard zija, Samard zija, Samardzija, sign a baseball only contract before the Senior Bowl practices begin. Am I the only one who caught this? If this was a brady bunch reference...very funny. I will hereforth refer to him as Mardzija, Mardzija, Mardzija. Or Marsha.

  22. we can always call hin A-Sor Please don't. I'm eagerly awaiting the day when that nickname fad ends. agreed. But if he doesn't live up to expectations, remember where you heard it first.
