  1. No pain anymore. The heightened expectations from 2003 have officially been lowered in my eyes. In 2001 I said the window was '03, '04. The window is closed.
  2. I really think this is a sign of Hendry taking more control of the team. I don't think most of these pitchers are injured (O'malley the obvious exception). I think Hendry doesn't want them overused. Marshall isn't used to pitching 200 innings, so they set him down for awhile and give someone else a shot. Nothing to lose.
  3. He's no Kornheiser
  4. is that 10-12% situation based? In other words, does the frequency increase with a runner on first? I would think it would.
  5. Funny, in January we were supposed to have six veterans for five spots. Z Prior Wood Maddux Williams/Rusch
  6. He has not had a plate appearance in the last five games. And Theriot has had several. Is Iz the end of Neifi?
  7. One thing that struck me: Even though the Tigers are 9 games ahead of the Mets for the best record in the league, the Mets had a higher probability of making the playoffs. One thing that struck me... Because of the number of teams ahead of them in the Wild Card, the Cubs are more likely to win the division than the wild card. Not gonna happen, boys.
  8. Hadn't seen this posted so... Worth watching at least.
  9. I'd actually take two big bats over a top-notch starter and a big bat. Someone mentioned Soriano and CLee. That's not a bad start.
  10. I may be misinterpreting your stats but 211/897 is .235 not .190. Try 211/1108
  11. I can't believe I'm going to defend Dusty and the rest of Cubs management but the people on this board and others would have had a heart attack and probably would have burned Wrigley to the ground if the Cubs had shut Prior down in September with the division title within sight. Everyone would have been screaming for their heads. We can't have it both ways. 2003 is in the past and now we're paying the piper. Such is life. I didn't say shut him down, did I? Limit his pitches and innings. This may be beating a dead horse, but how many times have we seen 7,8,9 run leads and starters left in to pitch 125+ pitches. Craziness.
  12. Would you have also told me that DLee had been injured since game 12 and Tony Womack was on the roster and getting a number of starts? And that Juan Pierre would have an OBP of 287 and that Rusch, Hill, and Guzman would all get a bunch of starts in addition to Marshall being entrenched in the rotation? That's kind of the point. ARAM, Lee, Wood, Prior, Pierre, (who were supposed to be the pillars of the team) and others that should have done well, have done poorly or done nothing. The five that I listed (at least the first four) have over-achieved, at least in the BA dept. Also an indictment of Aram and Hendry for building such a house of cards.
  13. Don't feel alone. The Cub hitters obviosly weren't ready either.
  14. No they won't. ah, scott. So much to learn.
  15. before the season that on June 6: Cedeno would be hitting .301 Walker .309 Murton .281 Jones .309 Barrett .298 what would you guess the Cubs' record as?
  16. Techincally, Pawelek had two starts last season in Boise and Grant was a second rounder. The Cubs have a long and dark history of 1st round picks. Ty Griffin?
  17. People that change their avatar too much don't qualify. :P Yeah I still think of California as looking like Corey Patterson.
  18. Just have to be #1 in the central. If the Cubs climb & the Cardinals drop (SHOULD at least some) in the next couple of weeks they have a shot to make th division reace interesting. It's insane to think that this team has a shot, but stranger things have happend AND you got to at least hold out some hope... it's the Cub way. If the season ended today (did I say that in June?) Reds win the wild card. so really just have to be #2 in the central.
