  1. reminiscent of this game.
  2. For a 120 OPS+, I'd give a couple of decent minor leaguers. Ibanez would force Edmonds to the bench and give us a heck of a pinch hitter. I'm not convinced Edmonds will stay healthy all year. I agree with you...Even if Ibanez isn't playing real well this year the fact that we could get another left handed center fielder in case of a Edmonds injury. He's not much worse this year than previous years. OPS+ from 2001 to 2008: 115, 122, 103, 116, 115, 125, 121, 120 What is OPS+ anyway? How can you possibly have 4500 post at NSBB and not know this? The education committee is not doing their job!
  3. If that's what you want...you're in the wrong place, pal. The motto of NSBB is "question everything"
  4. Not that I want to get into this discussion for the 100th time...but... You cannot blame him for the loss; 9 professionals on the diamond should have had the mental wherewithal to not get flustered and distracted. However, to say he "had nothing to do with losing that game" is inaccurate. I believe if Alou had caught that ball, the fan-graph would have climbed higher and the other "Mo" on the field - momentum - would have carried either Prior or AGonz avoiding their mental miscues. Also if the Castillo foul ball is caught, Castillo doesn't walk, there are two outs and A-Gonz is think first base instead of thinking double play. A small difference, but a significant one. Returning to my original caveat, however, the 9 professionals should have had the mental wherewithal to persevere.
  5. just as long as he doesn't sit in the front two rows.
  6. And if the trend has caught up to him such that hitters aren't "leaving the bat on their shoulders"
  7. Hmm....better jump or speed? Instincts
  8. He was trying to prevent the DP
  9. then he shouldn't be promoted. If you're going to burn an option on him, at least see what he's made of Samardzija's option was burned back in March. que? when he was added to the 40-man, i believe. He was added to the 40 man when he was signed. Every guy on the 40 man is on the active roster in spring training. if they don't break camp with the major league club or on the DL, they burn an option. Gotcha, I didn't know that. yeah, at the end of ST he was optioned from his blog: looks like he was right
  10. no way Samardzija starts. Z Demps Lilly Harden Shark? really? That would have to mean Marquis is out of the rotation. Does this really happen?
  11. impeding? was that intentional? if so, well played.
  12. We have two RHs now. #-o Noted! Except one of the RHs is LH
  13. ANyone else think Beane sees in Murton what we did and Hendry didn't?
  14. This bears quoting for it's truthiness. Not just a moron, but a moron with an axe to grind. Dangerous combination.
  15. Nope, there's a fourth option. He got a HUGE dose of humility in San Diego.
  16. That's kind of the point. He finally felt comfortable moving Fukudome to the top (where he belongs) because he finally had another lefty in the middle of the order that he has confidence in. Bad logic? Maybe. But that's definitely why he would say it.
  17. still the best record in baseball. Maybe Carlos gets some rest, marshall proves his worth and they're a step closer. Honestly, this team can afford a bad stretch and still be "in it". The only way this is really bad is if it requires surgery. Even then he's one player (albeit the best) on a team full of good players.
  18. all great Cubs relievers operate this way Smith, Beck, Williams, walk them loaded, then strike out the side.
  19. I don't see him back any sooner than the full six weeks. This is wishful thinking by Soriano.
  20. How old are you? Old enough to know better. And old enough not to care. I'm 31 but became a Cubs fan in '84 at age 8. So when it comes to the Cubs I allow myself to be perpetually 8. You should try it. Its blissfully cathartic. Or so my therapist says. For a hundred bucks an hour, you'd think he could come up with something better.
  21. My feelings haven't changed. Edmonds was among the most hated members of the most hated team. What was it '03 where the Cards and Astros were constantly in beanball wars with the Cubs? Ausmus, Ozwalt, Edmonds, Carpenter. These names mean "enemy" to me. I continue to hope the Cubs win despite Edmonds going o-fer.
  22. did you get the expressed, written consent of the Chicago National League Ballclub?
  23. THe Cubs have always stolen signs from the scoreboard. Its a commonly known fact. It almost makes up for the rigors of playing so many day games. Umm... what was the latest excuse about Wrigley? yeah, whatever.
  24. would have liked to have seen Sandberg swing and miss where he catches the bat in his other hand.
  25. ugh, i hate this line of reasoning. it's innings that matter, not days. This is true. A starter will always affect more innings than a reliever if they are starting every 5 days and giving an average of 5 innings a start. Not even Marmol is on a 162 inning pace. This argument has been argumented on these boards before. Not every inning is created equal.
