  1. I think it's racism that makes people hate it in MLB but love it in the NBA. If Derrick Rose did something like that you guys would all pitch tents.
  2. Everyone stop having fun. Baseball needs more douchy celebrations, not less. They are awesome.
  3. At least on this site there were very few people who thought he signed for too much. There might have been a handful of people saying he signed for too much, while most of the complaints were over the deal being too long (wanted 2 not 3 years) and him not being an impact player (true). There were very, very few complaints about the money in the deal. I was gonna say the same thing. Byrd was a good bargain and the signing made sense at the time considering the other options. In a couple years when Wood retires, I'm sure you'll find a couple idiots saying things like, "He's overpaid!" and "We should have never brought him back!" but that's because you can find at least a couple people that think chickens give live birth. I made the mistake of getting into a discussion with a random fan today, and I'd forgotten how awful it can be. Apparently: Garza is a No. 4/5 pitcher because he saw him in Minnesota his rookie year and he was awful. The Cubs should trade Soriano for picks Ramirez is only good in contract years.
  4. And that's a huge blow to the Cubs' outlook for the next few years.
  5. Hi Ryno. I'm still disappointed that you aren't around to get blamed and ruin your reputation on this bunch of losers.
  6. That hurts a lot more than the Cubs do. At least we knew the Cubs were going to be bad. I'm stunned at how the Blackhawks are trying to become everything they weren't three years ago: slow, old, gritty and mediocre.
  7. I wonder if moving him to 3b would help his approach at the plate in those situations. Needs to come through in the clutch more.
  8. His fastball is down 0.2 mph from last year. That's probably not significant. Though both are down about 2 mph from his career before. He's actually managed to lose a little bit every year since 2004. That's probably not good?
  9. Should have traded him when he had the chance. Didn't fangraphs have his velocity as down this year?
  10. My favorite part of that was that the LF started to bobble it too.
  11. Was it *really* that hard to type out "message." It seems like it would have taken more effort to think out "Okay, how do I want to abbreviate this word." than it would have been to make the three extra keystrokes to insert the vowels.
  12. They'd make a lot more money if they were.
  13. a) probably not with that specific intent, but with extreme indifference, i imagine b) hiring the bum as a writer is indictment enough of your entire paper. editing his [expletive] after the fact is pointless. There are some solid people working there.
  14. Yes, people here are VERY sensitive that you follow all rules and regulations. There will be no deviation in something as serious as a dying Cubs message board. As you can see, these strict guidelines have created a vibrant community with hundreds, ney, thousands of posters. I can barely keep up with all the conversation happening here. I mean, we get 1 or 2 new threads a day! Sometimes it gets as crazy as three per day, if you count the game threads! How dare you add to the clutter around here! I like you.
  15. Or pay the $5 million and get a better prospect. Or pawn the $5 million off and use it to make sure we sign guys like Maples, Dunston, Vogelbach, etc. Pay the $5 million, sign those guys anyway, and get a better prospect.
  16. Probably because the inexplicable number of page views coming from non-residents allow the paper's ad revenue to finance the entire town's budget. The town is so filthy rich that the paper rakes in ad money from businesses who can't think of anything else to do with all their money, so nobody cares about the quality.
  17. Nah, I've seen Fonzie's car up close -- it's definitely more of a turquoise-teal thing than anything Cubbie blue. That photo just makes it look darker than it is. Marlins team pride.
  18. And still losing ground on the Astros. Sheesh.
  19. Most career Cubs home runs: Vitters vs. Montanez
  20. Maybe he should just play deeper.
  21. Also known as the Girardi Maneuver.
  22. The farm system sure as hell doesn't have much in the upper levels as things stand now. Jay Jackson's career took a nose dive and Trey McNutt's been battling injuries all year. If Z or Dempster are traded, the Cubs will have to get someone through free agency to fill the rotation next season. I mean that if we are assuming none of them are traded, the ERA+ for the guys we are presumably wanting back in the rotation are at this point 99, 92, 76 and whatever Randy Wells' is at this point (60ish?). Should that be a concern at all or is it just sample size?
  23. So does the rotation give anybody concerns that this team isn't ready for a quick turnaround? What if they finish the year pitching the way they are now?
  24. Under that justification, the only time you could fire a GM would be when the club is winning.
  25. Mark Clark just punched a hobo and doesn't know why.
