  1. If people quit making really terrible arguments, I'd quit having to point it out.
  2. And I say that since you've made it some sort of weird issue to post that about me several times a day, you could at least take the time to actually read my posts. I never once said what you just accused me of saying. Not even anything remotely close to that, to be honest. All I'm saying is that this isn't stupid, morality based legislation in an area the government has no business in, which was what was originally asserted. It's stupid overregulation of an area that government has a normal interest in, for the benefit of casino lobbyists.
  3. Okay. And if there were a type of vegetable knife where a known, significant percentage of users will slip and slice open their fingers, wouldn't you want the government to step in?
  4. much like alcohol, tobacco, half of the food we eat, and a bunch of other things people do everyday. Exactly. I'm not saying I agree with the ban, but it's not as if the government is just stepping into some random area where it has no interest.
  5. It's gotten us to division titles immediately after awful seasons twice in the last decade. No reason not to try for a third.
  6. Gambling is dangerous. It may not be dangerous enough to warrant a ban, but it is not harmless.
  7. Why would anyone take the time to debunk something written by a Bleacher Report "writer"? That's for wannabes who can't even get hired by the Williston (N.D.) Herald.
  8. While it isn't fair and I don't necessarily agree with it all, every columnist/talking head (even the ones I think a lot of people around here respect) has bashed the Cubs since the deadline. This team is the laughing stock of the league right now. Someone has to be held accountable. By your logic we should never make a move. Too much acceptance of loser culture in this fanbase. That's not my logic at all, and while this year sucks that doesn't mean they're bound to suck next year. All these little things...people laughing, calling for heads, and being a league wide joke (which I guess is new to the Cubs)...are a product of not winning. But any team can say that. Can any team say they have a massive financial advantage over their crappy division which stands to get much worse this offseason due to free agent departures?
  9. Three straight three-hit games. The record is six.
  10. He's said generic stuff, but the early results in the draft and international prospect signings indicate he's willing to make them a significant focus for the organization.
  11. .500ism is probably the best we can hope for in 2012, but there's nothing wrong with that. This isn't the NBA where being a good team but not the best leaves you screwed. They can still develop prospects, sign draft picks and make smart long-term decisions while trying to cheap-o a bad division next year.
  12. Wait, actually, what he said was we don't have enough prospects and also he's worried about having too many prospects.
  13. So Hendry was worried about having too many prospects?
  14. Faaaading. They'll finish at least 6 games under .500.
  15. I have a much easier time believing we get Pujols or Fielder than Wilson. If there's only one starting pitcher on the market worth talking about (and apparently that's the case, because Wilson's name keeps coming up), then the competition will be ridiculous.
  16. Given what we know about Cubs management, if you absolutely positively *had* to guess one or the other, would you expect they are: a) Planning to try to get draft pick compensation out of Pena and plan to offer him arbitration, assuming he'd decline. b) Intending to re-sign Pena and pass on Fielder or Pujols. Which do you think it is?
  17. Samardzija looking very athletic out there despite the poor outing. Love them athletes.
  18. Joplin's not there anymore. Fred finally gets caught making up his locations.
  19. Do you ever get tired of being wrong? i think it's more that he likes being contrarian - taking positions that others will disagree with - because he's bored. Being anti-instant replay is not exactly a contrarian position. Yes, I'd rather let the moment stand than get the call right with a several-minute, mood-killing delay.
  20. Because a huge chunk of the fun of watching sports is the excitement of the moment. It already sucks in football when that excitement is ruined because you are waiting to find out if there's a flag or not. There was a long period in hockey that absolutely sucked because half the goals were being called back.
  21. I'm not clear on why the path to being a 90+ win team runs through taking a step back next year.
  22. I can't imagine Kosuke's value will be any higher than 2 players in the 15-20 range. I bet it will be lower than that, but I would be pretty happy to get 2 decent prospects back. This may be a dumb question on my part and I offer my apologies in advance...but it bothers me that instead of getting one top 10 guy in a trade like this we seem to settle for two guys in the 15-20 range. Maybe I'm a fool but I would much rather get one guy with a good chance at reaching his projections than two guys with a lesser chance. Everyone would. Unfortunately, the other teams would rather keep the one good guy.
  23. If it doesn't make sense, and all we have are unnamed sources, then I think the conclusion you should draw is that the reports that the Cubs are willing to pay "a lot" of his contract and "no one wants him" are exaggerated.
  24. i believe they're referred to as "umpires" in baseball That doesn't sound right. Are you sure you aren't thinking of Australian Rules football?
