  1. It's ok...we may have more players to work on next year too. Hopefully we can get Ramirez voted the starter for next year too.
  2. Murton and Dubois are just as good of a prospect as Kelly Johnson who is referred to in Cox's quote above. If Dusty were managing the Braves, Mondesi would still be getting time in the outfield. You could bank on it. The proof is there. Cox allows his rookies to take their lumps and as a result the Braves consistiently turn out nice players. They were top prospects and maybe better than Dubois, Cedeno, and Murton. I'm not at home so I can't go back and compare rankings...but I think Choi was at least as highly rated as some of those when he were rising through the ranks. Here you go. http://www.minorleagueball.com/story/2005/4/8/11438/38755 According to John Sickels, number 3 overall (note that he is above Giles :D ). I can't find the top whatever list for BA on their website. Thanks. I knew Choi was considered at least as good as those the Braves gave chances to.
  3. It is, you just have to post it in green. Sarcasm is allowed. And you don't have to post it in green, either. It's nice to give a hint, though, that you are being sarcastic. And be at least somewhat amusing with it.
  4. So how do you suggest trading someone with a no-trade clause. Or do you suggest we waive him and let someone have him for free? Just bc he's got a no-trade doesn't mean he can't be traded, if we don't want him here why would he himself want to stay with this club, I'm sure that there's teams out there that want him and he wants to be with, it wouldn't be mission impossible. If he asked for the no-trade clause, he likely asked for it with a reason: that he wants to be a Cub. Secondly, he married a woman who is from Chicago and they have a home in Chicago. That likely makes him want to stay. Third, he will likley want concessions to waive the no-trade clause which would reduce his value in a trade. Fourth, he's still a good pitcher when healthy. It makes no sense to trade him. And yes, a no-trade clause means he can't be traded without his consent. I've yet to see any inclination that Wood wants to be traded. I think the list of teams he would accept a trade to would be very small indeed. Just cuz he's got a woman from Chicago, he's got a home, and he signed with a no-trade, doesn't mean he'd be unwilling to be trade. If the cubs simply find a good trade partner and ask him to waive it, first off Wood's gotta want to play for a team that wants him and hopefully that team is a team he wouldn't mind playing for. And yeah he's a good pitcher WHEN HEALTHY, when has he been healthy anyway? not in the past 2 years, that's too long for the cubs to keep getting pushed back and hoping for him to return in a 2,4,8 weeks. Begging a season you've gotta have a set rotation, with Wood in there the rotation is never set cuz he hasn't been able to stay healthy, and then the Cubs have gotta hope for guys like Rusch or Mitre to step in, thankfully they've done a decent job, but you can't go on doing this year after year like they've done 04-05, it's that simple. So, why do you believe he wanted a no-trade clause?
  5. Let's compare two quotes, one by Baker and one by Cox. Cox on rookie Kelly Johnson: Baker on rookie Matt Murton: I wish we had more of the former and less of the latter. And guess which one has proven to be more successful. But I guess Baker still has more sex than Cox, so that's all that matters.

  7. Any word on who was recalled to replace him? Apparently not, I haven't seen a transaction regarding this listed on ESPN.com, Yahoo, etc. yet. I'm curious. It could be Rich Hill. But then with the bullpen spent, they might call up Wellemeyer and then send him back down and call Hill up to start for Wood. If they plan on Mitre starting, they could call up either Hill or Welly for the pen...or they could recall Grieve or Fontenot and just return to 11 pitchers.
  8. Just remember...if the Cubs are getting blown out, don't be afraid to run onto the field and tackle Pujols. We'll all be proud of you. I don't think the wife will let me...but I'll take that under advisement. right because, no offense Vance, but in your pics you don't look big enough to tackle Pujols. Actually I don't know if all of us at NSSB are big enough to tackle the JOLS. I'll take out Eckstein then!
  9. ... and he blows it. 5-5 to the 9th. I bet the Red Sox get Billy Wagner before the deadline.
  10. 3 turnips, a bag of flour, a gallon of milk, and a 24 pack of diet dr pepper i think the cubs provide carlos with his gums Any idea what he does with the turnips?
  11. Where would you play him? There's no need to make a trade that replaces the third best hitter on the team. If Soriano wants to play left field, bring him on. Since that isn't the case, trading for another secondbaseman is about the most pointless thing I can imagine. Why don't we also trade for a thirdbaseman and another firstbaseman?

  14. So how the hell did he know Kerry and Prior would get injured. Dont tell me they are injury prone either. Percival has been hurt in the past. And priors injury was a total freak accident. Prior just has weak bones. If he would have had stronger bones then that ball would have bounced off of him and he would have been fine. We need to feed him calcium pills. one time i saw prior and z after the game at the grocery store and carlos zambrano was like "hey i do believe i will purchase some milk" and mark was all like "i dont drink that stuff because i choose to have weak, easily breakable bones because i like to get injured because that means i get to go back to my mansion sooner" Was Carlos yelling it into his glove while he grabbed himself? no he was just mumbling it to himself while reading off of his grocery list Was bazooka gum on that list?

  17. I'm thinking Lee will hit in the 315-325 range, with a 380-400 OPS, and a 550-600 SLG. Hey we're pretty close except for the BA Which means you think he'll get on more via walks and I think he'll walk less but hit more. It's all about the same.
  18. Neifi gets on base 28% of the time. That's just not good. That about sums it up.
  19. Is he gone? I thought he had a real future here. :D He's still posting...so maybe the fun isn't over yet.
  20. I seem to recall getting swept by a Braves team that had 10 rookies on its roster. I also recall that 4 Braves rookies were in the starting batting order for the last game. I posted this in another thread, but the words of Bobby Cox deserve another mention. That is just the opposite of what Dusty has said publicly. If Cox were manager of the Cubs, Dubois would have been left in for a stretch of games, regardless. Murton would be out there everyday, and likely hitting second. Cedeno would be playing too. Wow. I like that, that's good managing from Cox. Too bad Dusty will never do that, and Murton/Cedeno will never see consistent PT. :( I've said it before, but I think the Braves have been the best run organization over the last 15-20 years. I like what Hendry has been doing, but I think we'll need a different skipper to ever hope to make that kind of run.
  21. He's 14th in both RBI's and runs. That 14th in runs is pretty pitiful considering all the times he hit in front of Lee. I'm sure he'll drop in those. You really should look these things up before you erroneously assume the stats support this weak argument.

  23. I may be 15, but I know enough not to let 17 year old punks like yourself intimidate me. Based on his command of punctuation and syntax, I was thinking 13. :-k
  24. I was kinda hoping he could hang around to be ridiculed a little longer.
