  1. It's cool. I was watching on TV, and it was clearly Hollandsworth in left and Len even said so.
  2. See, I agree with you here. They may have asked for a similar player, but it doesn't make sense for them to actively desire and seek out that type of player, which means that acquiring such a player does not necessarily make it more likely the Cubs will acquire Dunn. It's not logical to ignore a better interpretation simply to achieve your desired results. I'm not ignoring those. In fact, I'm agreeing with you that Gerut likely remains a Cub. I don't think there's anything wrong with speculating otherwise either.
  3. We technically did when we acquired Mienkyalphabet and sent him to Boston as part of the Nomar deal.
  4. If it's logical then why is it patently so unlikely? It's logical in that Gerut fits the player that the Reds were asking from the Astros. On the other hand, the Reds could want a completely different set of players from the Cubs. I discussed that in the thread that I first revealed the information. I still believe that is most likely. But since I only have one side of the discussion...the part of what the Astros rejected, I can't rule out that a similar set of players from the Cubs would get the deal done. It's logical...but entirely circumstantial. It's also assuming that the Cubs have interest in Dunn and paying the price to get him. That's something I don't know. Since there's so much I don't know, I give it a very low percentage of happening.
  5. No, its bits and peices of information that have been peiced together in a logical manner to come to a conclusion. This, in science, is called a hypothesis. In the tearms we speak in now, it is speculation. Now, no doubt it has holes. but when you put it all together, it does make sense. It makes no sense at all. Why would Cinci actively seek out and desire a mediocre outfielder as part of this trade? Because the source said so. Vance is a highly respected member of this forum, and we have no reason to beleive what he says is untrue. I don't know that I'm respected....prolific maybe...but respected?!?! :P [peg knocker]Fear not. You aren't respected. We merely tolerate you.[/peg knocker] Ouch! And from a mod too. I think I may have to call upon the panel of experts for backup. :ninja:
  6. I think what Roast and I have speculated makes sense. Do I think it's likely? Hell no. I give it at best a 10% of happening. On the other hand, given what I know it is logical speculation.

  8. My source has a relative and a close friend who work with the Astros. Neither work in baseball operations, but both have access to information. He's never been wrong when he's told me he was certain on something.
  9. Like I said, I don't know much about Lane, but Gerut looks like a role-player. If that's what Cincy is looking for, they could get one anywhere. Lane and Geruts stats are fairly similar in every category. Geruts are just a touch higher in just about every category however. If Cincy wanted lane, isnt it logical they would want Gerut? It isn't illogical at all. I wondered why they'd want Lane, but I've never had a reason to doubt my source thus far.
  10. Actually the Trib article speculates it could be Grieve or Mitre. Maybe we're finally getting rid of the extra pitcher.
  11. I parked the BandWGN in Des Moines. They'll have to pick it up there. What sucks is I had just gotten my picture taken with Jason in Atlanta. Oh well. (If this move leads to Adam Dunn coming to Chicago, all will be forgiven and forgotten.)
  12. He's a veratile bench player now that Greenberg's head is broke. So is it the consensus that this will not be the last move we make?
  13. So, assuming we keep Gerut. What's his role? Does he take Hollandsworth's spot as the LHed part of the platoon. Does he take Hairston's spot in CF? Is he simply a versatile bench player and takes Grieve's spot? What's going to be the consequence of this move? As much as I like Dubois, I don't think we made a bad move. Dubois was going to be of little value to the 2005 Cubs and likely wasn't in the future plans as long as Dusty was running the team. I'm just trying to figure what this move does to the configuration of the current club. And even though I doubt a deal is imminent, just think where we are playing? Wouldn't it be lovely to bring Adam Dunn with us to St. Louis this weekend?
  14. It's not necessarily that the Reds want Jody, but Jody could be replacing whomever they do want. If Corey fits the bill, Jody could conceivably fill in at center for the rest of the season. And if Hairston is the "established major leaguer"... well, again, Jody in center. No offense but i really think this is wishful think by you cub fans. Here's not going anywhere because he has little trade value. I think Jody is a good utility OFer whos from the chicagoland area. Thats not such a bad thing... I just dont see this leading to another deal. So who do you think is more valuable, Jody Gerut or Jason Lane?
  15. It's based on the information that the Reds wanted Jason Lane in a deal with the Astros. Lane's career numbers: 254/313/491 29 yrs old Gerut's career numbers: 266/337/440 27 yrs old It's not a stretch to see the similarities. Maybe the Reds had no interest in Dubois, but they like Gerut. Vance, you rock. YOu are making my hair brained idea earlier sound good. I'm purely speculating here, Roast. I don't know any more than you guys do. I'm just drawing conclusions based on the information I've heard. It also wouldn't surprise me if we kept Gerut. I'm just hoping it's a prelude to a bigger deal.
  17. I'm sorry, but I don't judge players based on one game. I want as many players as I can get that post 900+ OPS.
  18. Ok...I go to the Steak and Shake and come back to see this. A few reactions: 1. I hate to see Dubois go. Jason, we hardly knew you. Good luck in Cleveland. 2. I'm still a little puzzled by this move. Is Gerut that much better than what we have? 3. Could this be a move to acquire Dunn? Before you dismiss it...remember according to my source, Houston turned down Lane, Backe and a pitching prospect. Now think, Gerut > Lane. Williams = Backe. Add the pitching prospect and voila...Adam Dunn.
  19. What are you talking about? The kid did not come out. He played the entire game. No. Hollandsworth stayed in to play left in the bottom of the ninth and Novoa was inserted in Murton's spot.
  20. Now 11-2 in St. Louis. :x
  21. Rockies have taken the lead in the ninth and Vidro is ejected.
