  1. Hendry was bound to make a bad move sooner or later this year. I don't see how Restovich is going to add anything to the team.
  2. If you want to blame someone, it'd be better to go after Furcal for running 2' inside the line. Not signing Furcal looks even worse now. Nobody could have predicted this obviously, but it wouldn't have happened if we had him. That's a ridiculous outlook. You can't blame this injury on not signing Furcal. Seriously, that's a really silly statement. How exactly are the two related? It's as valid to say that this injury wouldn't have happened if just about any event occurred. Hindsight is always 20/20, but this is ridiculous and annoying Monday morning quarterbacking. Its all about Karma.
  3. Day after a night game. Sucks, no big suprise.
  4. I agree with Bynum, he looks horrible at the plate and even worse in the field.
  5. You think Rusch will get out of the game only allowing 3 runs? I like your optimism.
  6. I don't understand the argument against bringing Pie up. The Cubs need to win games and if he is the best available player, then he should be the one to come up. I'm tired of them making up excuses or fans making excuses for not putting the best possible team on the field. Is there some sort of stat that those against Pie are relying on, that says if Player A is called up to the majors and spends 10 of his 15 games on the bench his career will be ruined? Or such % of players that spent a whole season in AAA ball are better than players who called called up with only a partial season? Sure you don't want Pie riding the bench the whole year, but if they need someone for 15 days, imo you take your best available player.
  7. Daily Herald article indicates that Baker will be playing Pie if he is called up. There is definitely enough starts for Pie if he is with the team for a short time. Pierre needs a day or two off, Jones has been horrible, and it would be nice to get Murton a day off at some point. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/sportsstory.asp?id=178310
  8. Simulated reports claim that Wood's simulated game went incredibly well, and his simulated fastball was averaging 95+ simulated miles per hour and his simulated curveball is the best it has looked since his rookie year.

Thus far? He's been terrible. A lot of things "seem" to be the case and aren't based in fact. It seems to me that Pierre is hitting a ton of weak ground outs at Wrigley and will continue to struggle mightily there. Does that seem to be the case? Yes. Will that happen? Probably not. This is the point I'm making. It's far too early to make any judgment based on this year's performance, but if you are going to take this small sample, I don't know how you could conclude it's been positive. This is where people that only use stats as an argument lose credibility. You can't watch a Cubs game this year without noticing the impact that Pierre has made on the team. I'm not saying that stats aren't important, but try watching a game or two. The things Pierre has done so far has not shown up in the box score and regardless of how you classify his play, he has not been anywhere near horrible. I'm sure that he would like to get on base more, but when he has been on base he has been outstanding and runs are just as much a product of his efforts as anyone else's on the team.
  10. Sounds like Rusch is throwing batting practice today.
  11. I'm starting to believe Wood is going to fully recover from the surgery and he should be exciting to watch this year. Is anyone else worried that Miller is not going to return to form? I've seen alot of articles that mentioned that he threw so many pitches or that he was on schedule to join the team in May, but nothing so far has said how he is throwing.
  12. Did he get traded? Kind of early to have an off day He's 2-12 to start the year. From the pregame interview with Listach, it sounds like he may be trying to do too much and is pressing a little. That makes sense. You have to have a little sympathy for Greenburg considering his big chance at showing he could stay in the majors, ended due to no fault of his own.
  13. Did he get traded? Kind of early to have an off day
  14. Is he doing towel drills yet?
  15. I don't think the fans are booing Jones because they hate him, most of them just hate the fact that the Cubs signed him to a ridiculous contract and they are stuck with seeing an avg to below avg. RF everday for the next three years. I've seen Jones play for the Twins and he is nowhere near as bad as he is playing now and he seems like a nice enough guy, but he is going to have to play way over his head to win over the fans.
  16. Maybe Dusty will really get bold and drop Jones to 7th or 8th in the lineup to take off some pressure for him.
  17. Ronny has been double clutching alot of throws and looks pretty shaky overall defensively. He does show some great range though and hopefully it is just rookie jitters.
  18. http://www.suntimes.com/output/deluca/cst-spt-deluca081.html Found this nice little article about Neifi and his attitude toward Cedeno and being a backup. I know that Neifi gets alot of flack from us fans, but it has been pretty classy of him to mentor Cedeno.
  19. Maddux did pitch incredibly and it will be interesting to see how his season turns out. With the big two out of the rotation for now, Maddux has to put in efforts like todays to keep the Cubs in a close race.
  20. People complain if Neifi plays bad and they are even complaining when he has an excellent game. There is no justice for Neifi or Dusty.
  21. It is not like this move is a big suprise or the end of the world. Dusty said long before the season started that certain pitchers wanted to have a better defense behind them than last year. Now we know that Maddux is one of those pitchers. If Maddux starts off great this year, I don't have any problem with him having a defensive team behind him. Hopefully, his defensive team includes Blanco.
  22. I really don't blame Maddux for wanting better defense in the game and as long if Maddux starts off great this season with Neifi at 2B, I don't see any reason to complain. Lets just hope that Maddux also insists on Blanco behind the plate.
  23. Is Walker still nursing his sore knee? There may be more to it than Dusty just starting Neifi for the heck of it. Or, it could be Maddux that wants Neifi playing defense on his pitching days. Baker commented that certain players will play on days that certain pitchers pitch. Maybe that is the scenario he was refering to.
  24. No kidding. His catching ability is just bad. He sets up too late, he hops around before the pitch, and he has a tendency to lunge instead of block. That said, the Cubs need all the offense they can get. ----------- You are overstating Barrett's weakness. Todd Hundley was bad as a catcher, but Barrett---while he won't be confused with Hank White---is still at least serviceable. No I'm not overstating his weakness. He does all of those things. Notice I never said he wasn't "servicable", whatever that means. He is a well below average defensive catcher. He has bad footwork behind the plate. His release point is too high when he throws to second, plus the other stuff I mentioned. However, it is worth noting he came up a third baseman and was switched to cather rather late in his career. I don't think it is any secret that Barrett's defense is bad. If Hendry truly wanted to upgrade defense, you would think catcher would be one of the more important positions to upgrade. Does anybody know what the splits are for the pitchers that pitch to Barrett and the other catcher Blanco/Bako? If his catching adds up to more than 1 ER per 9 innings, wouldn't that mean that he would have to account for at least one run a game on offense to be worth the tradeoff?
  25. That is actually not what he wrote at all: I think he did say it makes things more difficult... Anyway, I'm not trying to nitpick. I understand what he's saying. The OF won't supply a lot of power (and will actually be below average when compared to other OF). Point well taken. My argument is with the assertion that they will be a "complete disaster." All I'm trying to do is illustrate how they can be productive minus the plethora of XBH. Kind of suprised to be reading this from TT (CPatt20). Of all people he seemed the less likely to argue about, a single stat, mainly OPS being a large factor in the success of the OF. TT - do your statements on the OF take into account the power potential in the infield? Lee, Rameriz, Walker and Barrett are all capable of putting up some decent/great power numbers for their respective positions. *edited for poor english
