  1. I guess Brownlie didn't look so good after all. Pretty disappointing considering the expectations when the Cubs signed him.
  2. Good Question, maybe Todd Walker could have been the starting RF?
  3. I can't believe Neifi had the guts to say some of that stuff. I don't mind Neifi, but there is no way he is anything more than a backup. Sometimes reality is tough to deal with.
  4. Reguardless of what you thought of the man, that may be the tackiest thing that's ever been posted on this board. Yes, I agree, that is pretty classless.
  5. Was that wicked curve he was throwing yesterday, something he has had for awhile or is it something he is working on this year? With the movement he was getting on his pitches and his reported velocity and command, it is hard to see why he is not talked about more.
  6. he honestly can't be surprised when people say he doesn't like young players. his quote about how ST is for the young guys doesn't make any sense at all. So he doesn't need to have a great spring to make the team... Molehill meet mountain. It's good to see someone will replace Macias as whoopin boy. Grissom is great compared to Macias. He had one horrible year last year due to injury. Lets see if he is healthy and back to form before we proclaim him as a horrible player etc. I don't see how it would be so bad to have a player that would hit .270 with .325 OBP on the bench.
  7. Did I miss something? I thought Wood's rehab was going well and he was on track to miss no more than a week or two at the most. Now they're saying he could be out a month and a half or more? He does say "possible timetable" for Wood's return. I would say that the statement was more of a positive on how Miller was progressing than a negative about Wood's rehab.
  8. Can't believe you left this part out. This is the first I've heard of Williamson being possible trade bait.
  9. Some nice observations Craig. While you are probably right about many of these things, I would think her singling out of Guzman and Brownlie was based on something more concrete than mechanics, fielding, etc. Muskat has probably seen the pitchers throwing to hitters already and IMO for her to mention Brownlie at all considering the other minor league pitchers in camp this year is still a positive.
  10. Let's hope that Brownlie is finally healthy and get his velocity back. Will be interesting to see him throw in spring training.
  11. Can he still play 3B? Jose Hernandez may deserve a look if he is not signed.
  12. Its official he has been signed per Chicagosports.com. Any chance that a Kevin Brown signing is on the horizon?
  13. The Cubs certainly will attempt to sign Pierre during spring training. It takes two to make a deal, but Hendry will make an offer. Thanks :D It didn't seem like Hendry's MO to trade three young pitchers for a one year type of guy.
  14. Bruce - what do you think the chances are that the Cubs will sign Pierre to a long term deal during Spring Training? Is Pierre looking for a deal or looking forward to hitting the Free Agent market at the end of the year.
  15. Go here. http://www.mastersball.com/sickels/company.htm I'm always torn on how much of his info I should share because I really think everyone should buy the book. John is freelancing now that ESPN streamlined their coverage with BA and he does an excellent job. His approach is much different than BA and I think he brings a unique perspective. Thanks. :D
  16. Vance -- thanks for sharing some of the info from the book. Sounds like an interesting book, is there a website I could order it from or is his book available on Amazon, B&N etc. ?
  17. You can't call all of Walker, Neifi, and Hairston bench players. One of them has to start on the middle infield. That is why I said over $10M in bench players $13M - one of the $2.5 salaries.
  18. Suprised that more people aren't complaining about the Hairston contract #'s. Beside the fact that he was horrible last year and has a tendency to get hurt, there is no way that he warranted $2.5 M to sit on the bench all year. Especially, when you already have 2 guys that play 2B making $2.5 each. So the Cubs are paying 3 guys that can play 2B approx $2.5? Seems like the money could be spent in a better way. Hendry seems to be wasting far too much money on these types of contracts. $2.5M Walker, $2.5M Neifi, $3M Rusch, $2.5 Hairston, $1.5 Blanco, $1M Mabry. That's over $10M for bench players.
  19. Does Bobby Brownlie classify as under the radar? Last year toward the end of the year he was picking up his velocity and looked great out of the pen. I think if his health issues are behind he will be a pleasant suprise.
  20. I think this move puts us over the top. top of what? the brewers? One team at a time.
  21. So have the Sox gotten any better this offseason? They lost Damon, Rentaria, and now traded Mota, and Marte. Now they sign Florida AGone?
  22. Michaels career: .291/.380/.442/.822, 113 OPS+ Pierre's best season ever: .326/.374/.407/.781, 107 OPS+ Michaels has been the superior offensive player. The only argument you could make is that Michaels for some reason wouldn't duplicate those numbers over the course of a full season. His numbers v. RHP are pretty much the high end of what to expect from Pierre, so his splits aren't any help in that aspect either. Has Michaels ever played a full season? Big difference between playing part time or in a platoon and being the everyday guy.
  23. Then Hendry made at least one right move this off season. Huff's salary would have been $2M more than Jones this year for similar to less offensive production and sub par defense. Plus, Jones didn't cost the Cubs any prospects. 23 HR .249 .317 .757 22 HR .261 .321 .749 Definetely not a $2M difference.
