  1. Hendry has money to spend still, so might as well spend it on another washed up OF to keep Murton on the bench for another year. Any guesses as to Wilson's contract?
  2. Is Bruce still writing for the Daily Herald? All the Cubs news in the Herald seems to be by Kent McDill lately.
  3. from Rotoworld This is looking more and more like Prior will be a Cub next year (knock on wood), but I won't feel relief until something concrete is said or done to make it so. That would be wonderful news. I can't imagine why Hendry was trying to trade Prior in the first place.
  4. And thus, pitching as we know it ended when all young baseball players started throwing 250+ pitches a day, causing the arms of America's future legends to fall off simultaneously. pfft. Cy young says all these people are sissys. He had over 400 IP on 5 different occasions during his career. In fact, only 6 times over his 22 year career did he fail to reach 300 innings. Todays pitchers are sissy's. :) Good point. They need to buck up.
  5. Walker is NOT gone and there is no deal where he is rumored in recently. Therefore Walker is still a Cub and still can be considered a top 5 offensive 2B. As far as the CF comment how many CF are better then Pierre? I think you need to read the Walker thread in the Baseball discusion. Walker is nowhere near a top 5 offensive 2B in the NL let alone baseball. Walker was at best an average to slightly below average offensive 2b in 2005 and most agree below average defensively.
  6. Honestly, most people saw that Pierre trade coming a mile away. We all knew Jimmy boy coveted a solution to top of the order, speed, and CF. We also knew the Marlins were looking for pitching that was ML-ready (or close to it) and would be cheap for a reasonable length of time. Plus, sports writers are awesome at throwing crap at the wall 365 days a year. Thing is, the one time it actually sticks, you proclaim yourself a success and then everyone worships you for it. Not true. Other outlets, including WGN radio's Dave Kaplan claimed that Hendry did not have a trade in the works and hadn't talked to Florida regarding Pierre. Levine not only was one of the first people to report about a possible trade, but also named the players that were involved in the trade weeks before it happened. You call it luck, some might believe that he had inside knowledge. Ofman actually called the players involved about a month before it happened, not Levine. I think you got it mixed up. Levine reported the Pierre trade on November 15, 2005 and later named all of the possible players involved, which turned out to be the actual players involved.
  7. Yesterday, he was saying that the Cubs should make the trade and seemed like he was less than impressed with Prior.

  9. He is citing sources from MLB and within the Cubs organization, that would be about as "inside" information as you can get. Just because we don't like the trade does not make the rumor invalid or made up. Also, wasn't Levine the guys who broke the Pierre trade 2 weeks before it actually happened, and BTW he was entirely correct on the names that he said would be involved in the trade, which is somewhat impressive. As with any job, the risk he takes for reporting rumors are that most of them will never pan out and people will think he made them up.
  10. Can you name 10 2B that are better than Walker, or were last year? Offensively or Defensively? Total package. Ok, after looking at the NL secondbase men only, it is easy to see how vastly we overrate T. Walker on this board. Because Walkers OBP is often the argument for keeping him I will compare based on OBP. In NL the following 2B posted a better OBP than Walker in 2005 (not all of these guys played an entire year, but neither did Walker). Loretta Polanco Utley Castillo Freel Giles E. Young Durham Kent These guys were at around Walkers OBP Counsil (Barely below) Biggio (26 HR, but 20 pts lower in OBP) Vidro (who was hurt and most would take any day over Walker) Grudz (15 pts lower in OBP) So there are at least 13 2B in the NL ALONE that had better or comparable numbers to Walker. Defensively, I would take almost every player named above over Walker, except Kent. The total package goes beyond OBP. Only 5 2B had an OPS higher than Walker, and only a couple following him were within 30 points of that mark. Walker isn't that much worse a defender than all of them. And even if he were, that still places him around the top 15 2B in baseball at worst. Not really "almost worthless". Walker has close to zero value for the Cubs at the moment. He is most likely not going to play 2B at Wrigley to start the season, and has yet to bring any interest in the trade market. As pointed out, Walker is nothing special. He is an average offensive 2B, -- above average in SLG, but below average in OBP. Further, he is widely viewed as vastly below average defensively (around the league and by the Cubs).

  13. Walker is almost worthless, as is evidenced by the lack of any team willing to give up a good player for a relatively cheap 2B. Cubs made a huge mistake by electing to keep Walker over Grudz last year, but he may make a decent overpaid LH bat of the bench this year.
  14. Most O's fans think that Tejada is worth more than Prior. Most O's fans are crazy then.
  15. If I were the Orioles I would trade Prior for Tejeda straight up any day of the week and would have taken this offer along time ago. Is the hold up that the Cubs are insisting on Bedard along with Tejada?
  16. It's the exact same article in the Baltimoresun from this morning. I panicked for a second too. Oh, good. :)
  17. FoxSports is not very reliable, and we are talking about a business that is very unreliable as a whole. I really doubt that FoxSports has the specifics of any trade proposal that might exist at this point. Did you read the article? It was from a Baltimore Sun sports writer and quoted an O's front office member. Sure Foxsports may not be reliable, but this is starting to sound like a complete mess from the Cubs standpoint.
  18. Didn't see this mentioned yet, but FOXsports.com is reporting the Cubs, O's, and A's are working on a three way deal that would net the O's Zito and Prior, Cubs would get Bedard and Tejeda and the A's would get a ton of prospects (presumably Hill, Patterson, and O's prospects). That trade would be utterly ridiculous from the Cubs standpoint. I'm starting to think Hendry might not have a clue what he is doing anymore. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5192014
  19. This is starting to sound like the whole Pierre trade over again. Except, I hope this time the teams are really not talking.
  20. If Hendry is so dead set on getting rid of Prior, then they should deal him to Boston for Manny and Arroyo. But having said that, I think whoever has Hendry's cell phone service should shut off his phone for a couple weeks, and cancel his email, too. Make him unreachable. Keep him away from phones, if he's going to shop Prior. Maybe he is trying to Dusty Proof the team, but I just cannot believe he'd weaken the biggest strength on the team just because he's afraid Baker won't play Cedeno AND Murton. If this was such a problem, then why be an idiot and sign Perez, just to end up having to deal your 24 year old ace starter because your manager is bloody stupid? If he's panicking because he hasn't really improved the offense, then why weaken the strength you have left to do so? It doesn't make sense. There's no rational reason to be shopping Prior for anything less than a top 5 player in baseball. Maybe Hendry can spin his magic and get BOTH Manny and Tejada.........Hmmm? Hmm, if only there was a way.... http://www.northsidebaseball.com/PremiumForum/viewtopic.php?t=27617&start=0 Well, after the off season so far Hendry should be praying.
  21. Is it possible to get a new thread with actual new developments in the Tejeda trade proposal? This thread is getting a little long to sift through for little information. :D BTW is the rumored trade still Prior, Hill, Patterson for Tejeda and Bedard?
  22. There has to be something else behind Hendry's willingness to trade Prior. Sure he has made some really dumb moves this offseason, like signing Neifi and Rusch to multiyear deals, and getting stuck with Jacque Jones, but why would he trade one of the best young pitchers in the game without some other reason? Has Bruce M. chimed in on the topic yet? I tried to read through both threads but there is alot to sift through.
  23. How often did Rondell make a trip to the DL from running the bases?
  24. If Prior is planning on leaving in a year or so, I dont' mind seeing what Hendry can get for him. At this point Hendry has to do something to improve the offense and if I had to choose between Prior and Zambrano long-term, I'm picking Zambrano any day of the week. A deal for Tejeda gives the Cubs another big bat in the lineup with Ramirez and Lee and helps make up for their pathetic outfield situation. Has anyone posted a scouting report on Bedard? I read the one on ESPN.com and he sounded similar to Rich Hill, without the big curve.
  25. Can somebody with knowledge, explain why Bedard would be a decent pickup? Looking at his scouting report and numbers, he does not appear to be anything special. 90-92 FB, 4.00+ERA previous arm troubles etc.
