  1. I agree. Or QBs in the NFL. Is that a prominent/official stat? I've seen it used here and there, but for some reason I feel like I see references to a team's record with at quarterback rather frequently. Anyway, I think there are enough games decided the same way the Bears Cardinals MNF game was for that stat to carry the same meaning it has in baseball, or even hockey.
  2. Going off of the weather.com hourly forecast, it says 30% chance of precipitation throughout the evening, and at 6pm it switches its description from mostly cloudy to isolated t-storms. If thunder and lightning weren't in the mix, I'd be fairly confident about getting this game in tonight, but I'm not so sure right now. Truffle? anyone else? thoughts?
  3. I heard it would be a gametime decision. Let's just hope we don't have to wait until tomorrow to find out. the score says that he's likely out again. good. Sweet. Hopefully the weather cooperates. Also, this would take a little away from the idea that Bonds was spiting ESPN by not playing last night.
  4. Have we still not heard anything on who the suckers are that are supposedly expresing some form of interest in Izturis?
  5. I heard it would be a gametime decision. Let's just hope we don't have to wait until tomorrow to find out.
  6. Indeed. Cedeno has been a monster at Iowa as well, but that has proved to be little motivation to bring him up so far.
  7. Any more updates on whether or not it looks like they'll get this game in today?
  8. That's the joke. Were Robin Jennings the guy who replaced Barrett, who was the topic of the last favorite moment poll, only to be shipped out so quickly, then yes, this thread would have been about him.
  9. Any idea what his PC and balls/strikes count were?
  10. I figured that's what must have happened, but has there been any video or reporting confirming this?
  11. I can imagine this situation would develop to this point, but if it did, I'm sure the timetable on it would preclude Cuban from taking over by the beginning of 08.
  12. I don't know, but I'm happy if the bullpen (yes, even including scott eyre) is dealt with entirely in-house for the remainder of the season. The deadline is rapidly approaching and there are much bigger holes to fill.
  13. For so many different reasons.
  14. No but asking for 5 in a row so soon after winning 7 in a row is asking too much. Sorry.
  15. i don't care about the white sox I can honestly say I've paid more attention to the Brewers this year than to the Sox and Cards combined.
  16. But wait a minute... I thought the different treatment from Torre started the day he reported as a Yankee. Weird... :-k
  17. For the last four weeks, they've been thrilled with who has been behind the plate. Which is why I'm concerned about bringing in a catcher who's defensive ability isn't what it used to be. Except Cubs catchers this year have committed more errors (7) than Kendall (4), allowed more passed balls (11) than Kendall (7), and thrown out base runners at a lower rate (.181) than Kendall (.202). I realize Barrett is to blame for a decent amount of this, but Koyie Hill has also sent more ground balls into center field from behind the plate than he has from in the batter's box. Kendall is no stud anymore, but his defense is still an upgrade, sadly enough.
  18. I watched Baseball tonight last night...Kruck actually inferred he thought Barry didn't start b/c he didn't like ESPN's reporters and didn't want to help ESPN by playing in games they televised. I heard this elsewhere, I forget from whom or where they were citing. I think it's kind of ridiculous, personally. You can play a game and still tell Pedro to take a hike afterward. Remember when Sammy started the one season with 499 HR? ESPN (or ESPN2) ended up televising the first three games of that season in hopes of broadcasting that HR. They gave up after 3 games and Sammy hit it in the fourth, which was pretty funny, but they'll indoubtedly make a bigger push to cover Barry's tying and record-breaking hits. Will he sit out all those games? If he did, would it be a more emphatic highlight on Barry and his attitude or on ESPN and their worthlessness? I can get behind any ESPN hating, it just doesn't seem to make much sense for Bonds to show it that way.
  19. I picked other. It was from the 6/25 game, but it was in the 9th inning with one out when he didn't ground into a DP. He tried to hit into a 3-6-whatever and came up short. Then Jones pinch ran for him, and it was the happiest I've been to see Jones in a game all season, so props to Bowner.
  20. In unrelated news, truffle is also a longtime poster on the brewers board.
  21. Examples abound. I forget the names, but there were one or two guys starting for teh Nats who jumped out the same way. Check the Pirates and any other bad team and I'm sure you'll find more. Check the other side of the coin too. Pettitte was a 20-game winner with the Yankees while carrying an ERA just shy of 5.00. (Edit - Also, Bob Howry got the win the night he gave up the final 3 runs when the Cubs gave away their 5-run 9th inning lead.) Anyone who has put any deeper thought than "winning is good, losing is bad, so this must be a good stat" understands the concept, and its evidence is readily available on many teams every season. With a title so long, most people would find room to include what the thread is about.
  22. This definitely adds value to the trade. Also, it's true that Kendall has stunk this year, but I found this side by side comparison of Kendall's numbers and Cubs' catcher production, and aside from the expected lower power numbers, Kendall has been significantly better this year in therms of both BA and defense. The difference won't turn any heads, but with the low price tag and potential for any sort of second half offensive rebound, this trade looks to be a small but definite improvement. And rock on, abuck.
  23. This trade was way better for Hendry than it was for the team. Odds are, in terms of the product on the field, this trade was of little to no impact at all, but it was a higher-profile player for not a lot of money or return talent, so Hendry comes out looking better to people who like to hear about crap like clutch and career numbers over someone being washed up.
  24. This is definitely more meaningful than merely saying Z wants to stay with the Cubs. Hopefully it pans out. I think the hopes of a hometown discount are pipedreams though. Z knows what he's worth and he wants it. Maybe he said the bit about 90 percent because he's getting good indications the Cubs will pony up the money for him. Here's hoping.
  25. Just because it rains on Tuesday doesn't mean they would suddenly switch to AL rules for the day
