  1. Ah, getting out of innings on less pitches than many ABs should take, running out of innings by stupidity at third base... Welcome back, Cobs!
  2. I was two minutes late turning on the computer and the Pirates are already up?! Did the Cubs go 3 and out on 2 pitches?
  3. Sounds like a plan. I think I shall do the same.
  4. I can't believe this game is STILL more than a half hour away. I feel like I've been waiting all day. Play some freaking ball already!!
  5. I'll take "Because people think they are alot funnier than they actually are, and don't realize their posts are idiotic" for $1000 Alex. In three full non-premium pages, I counted approximately one post which contained "the same old tired comments" without contributing to the discussion. (Vance's July 08 remark.) Given that the thread is "the same old tired" speculation about Kerry Wood and whether or not he'll ever get off the DL, I'd say that's a pretty good ratio. Molehill=mountain.
  6. Talk about walking a fine line between success and disaster.
  7. Same here. I've been nothing but a staunch Cubs fan my whole life, but if I could pin down the start of my current level of obsession to a single day, it would be May 6th 1998. My expectations aren't high at all, but unfortunately my hopes still are.
  8. I'm surprised the Twinkies didn't put Torii Hunter on the mound to nail this one down.
  9. That's twice in one game. Their offense is going to have a lot of trouble crawling out of the downward spiral they've been sinking in for the last ten minutes.
  10. He's been blaming the dadgum umps and urging Cora to play the remainder of the game under protest.
  11. Five errors for the white sox?? OMK
  12. The LOST reference just drove the odds of a Cubs victory up to about 35-1.
  13. 2 of 3 is definitely a must, but that doesn't mean the season won't be over for which ever day the loss comes. Cubs should just make things easier and finish the season with about 120 wins.
  14. Welcome to the board! On an unrelated note, I really hate having to wait all day for night games. Get on with it!!
  15. Interesting take. I don't know if I've ever heard of anyone pointing out how well an ump does in calling balls and strikes.
  16. Don't get around much, do you ? Unlike us, he wasn't there back when they assimilated the AL, you know. ;) As much as I enjoy holding up a mirror to remind the old people in my family just how old they really are, it's always nice (read: safer) when someone else does it for me. Thanks Tim!
  17. Thanks. Vance's game notes are the only place I've ever heard that term used.
  18. I keep meaning to ask, WTF is a Senior Circuit club, and why does it matter how they rank among senior circuit clubs vs among the rest of the league?
  19. tell you what - i'll go eat the steak, you watch the cubs During times the Cubs are actually enjoying success and making a push for division/WC: watching the Cubs and eating ramen/mac n cheese > missing the Cubs for a good steak dinner Actually, for us vegetarians, that's true no matter how good the Cubs are. :P Jerk. Okay, for you vegetarians, substitute steak with super fancy pasta joint or Indian food restaurant or whatever is trendy for you people and it still holds true.

  21. now they can finally put the much-deserved asterisk next to his name for being on a major-league roster.
  22. I'm with Soul. If wood comes back, he has to stay back for the rest of the season before I'll believe he's actually back. That said, IF he manages to make it back, do they finally DFA Scott Eyre? Or do they send Marmol back down, despite the fact that he's the filthiest pitcher on the roster? They could just add him on and make him the 12th man (for how long they've talked about wanting to do this, I'm not really sure why it hasn't happened yet), but then which fielder goes? I'm beyond hoping that dead weight gets DFAd, so what then? Then, if we shuffle all this up to make room for him, what do we do once he goes back on the DL?
  23. PLEASE beat the Pirates more times than Milwaukee did. (More times than Mil beats the Nats would be a bonus.)
  24. For every person too lazy to vote before they thought it meant something, there is someone willing to waste their vote to preserve the tie, one way or another. This is true, even though I think people should be voting before ever looking at the results.
