  1. Let me clarify, I believe ARAM will be signed, hence the reference to going out and getting another stud. We will have problems if we lose him, you betcha!
  2. Agreed, the last thing I am worried about is Aramis signing now. Larger, fish are ready to be caught. Let's go get a stud bat and a stud pitcher and play in late October come 07.
  3. Alou in his last year with the Cubbies had to be one of my favorite players. I was frequently critizied for being and advocate of him. I didn't want him to leave and hated to see Dubois/Holla platoon. Ironic how 2 years later we want him back.... just odd!
  4. Per Rotoworld. "I hope" does not settle well with me!
  5. a small update: Per SI.com
  6. I think we might see listach as our new pitching coach if it isnt rothschild.. How so? Granted I have not followed his career post retirement but I find it hard to believe a career infielder would be a potential candidate for a pitching coach position.
  7. May have been covered before I post this, but do you think there is a chance Girardi goes to NY?
  8. I would love him in Cubbie blue... despite his 1-11 ALDS numbers. :)
  9. I don't want Stone back... he is horrible!
  10. Nomar is not coming back to Chicago, he is not a 3rd baseman!
  11. Uh, no. Your feeling may be the dinner you had last night ;)
  12. Mark Prior. Who's he? Who cares? Agreed! This guy couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag. Forget him and his hyped up talent! I would rather see Mateo or O'Malley take his spot in the rotation next year!
  13. Slightly better than Bobby Hill, but not as liked as Augie Ojeda.
  14. Moving forward it may be a good idea to keep Prior out of the rotation. He has done nothing to prove he will be healthy now or in the future.
  15. This wouldn't even be an issue if the Cubs were a winning ball club. However, because of the horribly record and lack of playoff games played at Wrigley over the past 98 years, this is all of the sudden a big deal. Bottom line, if you win press and others won't make such a big deal out of something that seems trivial.
  16. He would fit right in with his .204 BA!
  17. In the Trib today, Fredi Gonzalez name came up (3rd Base Coach - Atlanta Braves) ... Intersting as I do not know much about him....
  18. personally, I am sitting here spitting nickels. amazing how he finds an extra 4-5 mph on his fastball after changing uniforms. amazing how he's hitting all his spots. amazing how he's not shaking off his catcher to get to that crappy looping curveball. suddenly, Greg Maddux cares again. Yep, I was coming here to post this exact thought. It makes me wonder if Maddux was really giving it 100% each time out in Chicago. Heck, sometimes I would wonder if he would make it through 5 while hoping he wouldn't give up 3 in the 1st.
  19. Hayyyy what did you win today? The award for "Making a baseless statement, getting pwned by Rocket Sauce, then totally ignoring said pwning and continuing on with more intelligent analysis". Awesome. Thanks for the award, although I do not believe it is deserved. Rocket pointed out his opinion on Prior's good seasons.. 02, 03 (yes he was awesome) and his 04, 05 numbers are respectable. What I am simply saying is he is not the same pitcher and is at best an average pitcher throughout the league. He still sits at a record of 1-6 with an ERA pushing 8.00. Is he done? I hope not; however my gut feeling and I imagine others feel the same way is that he will never be the same pitcher he was in 2003. I hope I am wrong and will root for Prior to return to the dominate status he once had. Then you can award me with the overreaction post of the year and I will humbly accept.
  20. It's just tough to root for a guy who is 1-6 with a 7.00+ ERA, even if his last name is Prior. Are you kidding me? He lasted 3 inning yesterday and looked horrible! He's done, nothing, over, move on!
  21. Frankly, he is the most overrated pitcher in the whole game. He had one good year, that is it! He is soft and gets way to much love on this board for the numbers he has put up over the past two seasons. Should have traded him for Tejada when we had a chance, this guy will be your average right-handed, oft injured pitcher the rest of his career.
  22. Respectable to me is a very bad goal to set. Respectable reaks of mediocrity, and appreciating respectability is akin to accepting mediocrity. Even if they finish 82-80, what would be a strong finish, this season would be a disaster. You can't just judge a season based on how you play the last two months. Games in April, May and June count, even though the Cubs often downplay the risk of losing lots of them. A "respectable" finish to 2006 is only going to mean sustained mediocrity, which is going to keep this team locked into the cycle of mediocrity that has plagued them for so many years. First off, I never set "respectable" as a goal for the Cubs season. We all wanted different, I can't stand the way the team has played the majority of they year and once again will be disappointed come October. However, given the first half of the season and literally feeling like we wouldn't score a run the entire series; it is a welcome change since the Milwaukee series just before the AS break. Outside of the Nationals series and a few loses that we should have won, I enjoy seeing the Cubs win as of late. I am not sure how you can argue wanting the Cubs win and then spin your argument into accepting mediocrity.
