  1. Wondering why Neifi's name keeps coming up in negative aspects in regards to how this team has played. Granted, we have greater issues than just Neifi Perez, but how come he gets no love? Is it the fact that Dusty has given him public praise? Is he disliked due to the fact he is batted in a part of the order that is not condusive to his particular style of hitting? IE (good 8 hitter rather than leadoff/2 hole) What gives? Here are some quick numbers to compare/contrast Nefi to some of the other SS in the league. David Eckstein: G AB Runs Hits 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB K SB CS OBP SLG AVG 140 561 77 161 23 7 7 53 219 51 41 10 7 .357 .390 .287 Rafael Furcal G AB Runs Hits 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB K SB CS OBP SLG AVG 136 548 88 153 25 10 11 54 231 56 71 40 8 .344 .422 .279 Khalil Green G AB Runs Hits 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB K SB CS OBP SLG AVG 103 378 45 95 25 2 11 55 157 19 82 4 0 .295 .415 .251 Alex Gonzalez FL G AB Runs Hits 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB K SB CS OBP SLG AVG 126 435 44 115 30 0 5 45 160 31 81 5 3 .319 .368 .264 Jimmy Rollins G AB Runs Hits 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB K SB CS OBP SLG AVG 139 592 91 160 27 9 9 39 232 39 63 32 6 .317 .392 .270 Neifi Perez: G AB Runs Hits 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB K SB CS OBP SLG AVG 135 497 54 140 29 1 9 50 198 16 41 7 3 .306 .398 .282 Yes, I know this is only a handful, but to me these are the most "popular" shortstops in the NL. Take out Jack Wilson (who forgot how to play this year) Cesar (if healthy) could have been a good comparison. Just curious why Neifi isn't given some respect on this board. I am not advocating in any way shape or form, that we need him as our Opening Day SS for 2006. However, I don't think it would hinder us from battling for a Division title.
  2. I really, really wish Nomar would have worked out better. I believe he still has some good years left and will probably have a great year next year. However, if Hendy can sign him low for 1-2 years, maybe he will turn things around and Cedeno can make the switch to 2nd. Who knows?
  3. Well, as stated before, I don't believe it will be retired anytime soon. I would enjoy seeing it but just don't see Sammy helping his cause in anyway. I hope I'm wrong!
  4. Ok, its been proven a corked bat hurts it. And come on, for years and years we saw how far Sammy hit them. Cork, if it worked, would give warning track hitters power to hit it into the 2nd or 3rd row, not warning track onto Waveland Avenue. Believe me, I would have loved for Sammy to keep hitting them. Heck, I still wish he was a Cub at times. I miss him sprinting out to right field. I just don't believe the Cubs org. will retire a number forever in light of what happend at the tail end of his career. Just think of the 4 that are already retired, they still actively participate in Cubs events, always around the team and really show love for the Cubbies. Sammy, I doubt will do that. However if he does and the Cubs retire it...more power to him!
  5. No! 1. Walking out on your team. 2. Corked Bat. 3. Steroids (will eventually come out) Not what I would call "respect for the game" ...
  6. I honestly like Nomar and feel horrible that he has been inundated by injuries the past 2+ seasons. If, and a BIG if the Cubs could sign him for 3.5 w/ incentives. I would love to have him as the everyday SS. Time will tell but I just can't see Nefi our everyday...unless we throw money at Giles AND Damon AND Wagner
  7. I am leaving the thread title as is until either mods see fit, or it is truly confirmed by MLB.
  8. WFAN reports Rafael Palmiero has tested positive and MLB will make an announcement shortly.
  9. It sure didn't look good. Z seems different than most blister pitchers, pop that Blood Blister, cut a joke and hit the mound! He will be fine.... So you are saying he won't pull a Valdez? Ha, or a Becket...Just a hunch but it will be real hard for the Cubs to convince Z he will not make his next start! Z for Cy Young...Prior for runner up!

  12. (prayer) Please don't let Todd Walker be hurt for more than 3 days (prayer)
  13. He also threw 92+ pitches on Wednesday....Even at 3 innings he could throw 45+ pitches. I am confident Wood will open up Wrigley this season!
  14. JoBo out with broken bone in his hand, out 6-8 weeks....
  15. Now, um, usually I dont do this but uh . . . Go head' on and break em off wit a lil' easy joke. OXYMORON ALERT Easy now...BTW, is that a picture of you in your sig Tree?? It isn't. It's Emoticon Eric! Good, for some reason my opinion of you went south after seeing that picture. (sorry) My opinion is now back where it should be!!
