  1. Listened to the college basketball podcast with Gottlieb and Katz today and they had a few minute discussion on Illinois. Gottlieb said that McCamey "was is he throwing the game bad?" on Sunday.
  2. Two Cardinals friends of mine are already turning on him and getting bitter. I love it.
  3. There was just a discussion about him on the Iowa board the other day. Some guy saw his numbers and asked if Iowa was interested. Local Peoria guy knows him and his family and thought he was mid-major and then the resident AAU coach (who runs the program Oglesby and Uthoff are in and coaches them) said he thinks he's a Mo Valley or Horizon level player.
  4. He was kind of a mix between Chris Kramer and one of IU's big goons. He had a decent amount of skill though he got a lot of garbage stuff and statsheet says he averaged 12 and 7 his senior year. He was just as chippy, sneaky, dirty as they get for big guys like that and also liked to flop and argue. Going by Jake Jaacks (pronounced Jakes) was the cherry on top. I seem to remember him getting in a near fight at IU. Did Knight have one of his guys throw the ball of his face on an inbounds pass? I remember him having a bloodied face for some reason.
  5. There are some easy Lickliter jokes or quotes to use there about team/individual/spirit. You can't be too young to remember Jaacks, his senior year was Alford's first year. I always assumed you were in my age range (mid-late 20's).
  6. You guys are reaching, Bob already got it. It's Jake Jaacks in a landslide. J.R. Koch is closer than anyone else mentioned.
  7. Holtz is a fantastic coach/person. Once you overlook all the probation.
  8. Oh wow, really? See I'm just rooting for him to not be a Cardinal. The idea of him being a Cub seems so ridiculous that I just can't even let myself entertain the notion. I felt the same way until I heard the discussion on ESPN about this yesterday. Olney was saying how executives around the league are starting to speculate on where he'll end up and people keep saying the Cubs and Angels. It doesn't mean anything but just hearing that made it a little more real.
  9. That Iowa-Minnesota game was one of the stranger games I've seen in a while. They played a 2-3 zone the entire game, mostly with a lineup of guys that are 6'4, 6'7, 6'9, 6'10 and 6'11 and mostly athletic. Iowa was able to get wide open 3's on most possessions but couldn't make anything. Gatens was 2-11 from 3 and I think maybe one might have been hurried. Iowa isn't a good shooting team but that was like shoot around in their own arena. It was hard to even get mad.
  10. What the hell is going on with that guy? How about the play where he had the ball trapped on his hip, took 3 steps, was called for traveling and then looked at the ref all confused like he couldn't believe it? Seriously Bryce Cartwright would be an upgrade for you guys right now and he's just a guy Fran found in May/June.
  11. I don't know maybe. They can't really afford more than 1-2 losses the rest of the way, and they still have games at Illinois, at Minnesota and vs. Wisconsin, not to mention vs. Michigan State. Can't see them making it, but they have impressed me this year. You forgot to mention at Iowa. Iowa has a 57% chance of winning that according to Pomeroy.
  12. It kind of comes down to people like the way Jordan carried himself on the court compared with LeBron I think. People love Jordan because the way he looked and the clutch shots he hit. He was a dick on the court too but people viewed it as badass. LeBron has a different demeanor and carries himself in a different way than MJ. You're right, Jordan is a bigger a-hole most likely (I don't know these people so it's hard to say) but because of the way they appear to carry themselves on the court. MJ will always be more likable. Also, MJ was first and MJ probably had better PR like you said. Plus I'd like to know where this "by all rights" stuff is coming from.
  13. I don't have a problem if someone thinks that Cam is the best QB in the draft. I have a problem if with the idea that you would go into his workout thinking he wasn't, and come out thinking he is. Exactly
  14. That's silly. What could Kiper have seen at a workout that he didn't already know about Cam? Yeah I really don't get it. Is this really because he displayed what he showed all year but did it taking snaps from under center? Who didn't expect him to have an awesome workout? As Mayock said, the most impressive pro day he's ever seen from a QB was JaMarcus Russell. I don't think Cam is as lazy and shouldn't have all the problems Russell had but don't freak out just because of a controlled workout.
  15. Thanks, I think I'm safe on the top 20 part.
  16. I love the reaction to the Newton workout for the media. Like physical tools were ever a question or concern for him.
  17. Will someone search and find the details of the bet SSR and I had on McCamey in the draft?
  18. Well that was infuriating. Went to the CR USHL game tonight (which was crazy, game tying then winning goals in the last 20 seconds) and set a recording for the hawks game. Accidentally saw that they were up 3-0 with 5 left in the 2nd so I assumed I could skim through and enjoy the good stuff. Nope, that was an ugly surprise
  19. Which one you talking about? I think you use a timeout both times. He clearly called over Cartwright during the play to tell him something at the end of regulation. You have 3 friggin timeouts and it's a tie game, what's the harm in drawing it up during a timeout? And I have no idea why Cartwright is taking the 2 last minute shots rather than Gatens or May. I think the overtime play was designed to go to Gatens but he screwed up. It looks like Mel and Cole were going to set a double screen for him but instead he went completely in the opposite direction and was no where near the 3 point line. Unless he's coming off a screen and wide open cutting toward the hoop you really can't go to May in that situation because he just can't handle the ball. Fair point on Gatens but he can't get separation or create a shot like Cartwright.
  20. That's what I thought. Was that on Mel's attempted putback?
  21. Which one you talking about? At the time I thought call a timeout at the end of regulation but we still got a good look for Cartwright. It was the same shot he hit for the winner at IU and that's really been his money shot this year. Still I can see that going both ways. At the end of OT I don't think you call the timeout. If you do, Bo probably orders the foul with 4 or less seconds left and you're stuck hoping for a make, miss and putback. It looked like they had a play set for Gatens to run off double screen from Basabe and Cole but he went the opposite direction and we were left with a Cartwright heave. Too bad, that would have been a big win for the program. We played their ugly game and did it pretty well, just gave up too many offensive rebounds. Carver was as good as I've heard it since '06.
  22. I wish Iowa was playing anyone other than Wisconsin tonight. They've been playing well, gaining confidence, gaining interest and it would be nice to keep it going. Unfortunately Wisconsin is pretty much the worst matchup in the conference for Iowa. On the bright side Wisconsin hasn't played that well on the road so hopefully we can at least keep it tight.
  23. Whoa, did they at least get a reduced rate on the buyout? From what I've seen, if IU were to fire Crean in the next 2-3 years the buyout would be 3 million. It goes down as the years go on. Well that's not bad at all then. Iowa had to pay Lickliter $2.4M to buy him out of the last 4 years. I wasn't trying to say he deserves to be fired next year or that it was likely, was just wondering how patient they would be if it's just 1 NIT to show for 4 years even with the situation he inherited.
  24. Why? I'd like more wins as much as anyone right now, but I'm willing to give the guy some time. Like I said earlier, this team needs to start showing more progress next year. Hopefully another year of experience, health (hopefully), and adding a good post player will do that. You can't ask for much more in what is lined up for 2012 and beyond. If IU is still playing this in two years I'll be concerned. I think the worst is behind them at this point. So if he misses the tournament next year he's not in any danger? And buy out the last 6 years of his contract? Indiana signed Crean to a ridiculous extension for no reason, even if he didn't have the great recruiting classes lined up, he wouldn't be in danger. Whoa, did they at least get a reduced rate on the buyout?
  25. When you only have 7-8 scholarship players playing, it's not hard to fathom. How KSU won when ISU shot 50% from 3 and hit something like 15 more free throws than we even shot is more amazing. The answer to everything mentioned above is a team hiring a guy who has never coached youth basketball to run their program. But hey, he has NBA GM's on speed dial!!!
