  1. Yep. He was signed with UNI. His dad was the head coach at ISU at the time and didn't think he was a Big-12 player and didn't think he would fit in with the state of the program. Once he left ISU for Creighton, Jacobsen let him out of his LOI and he followed dad to Omaha. That would really suck for UNI fans. Comparatively it's almost like if Sullinger's dad had gotten hired at Michigan/MSU and Jared got out of his LOI and followed him there.
  2. In addition to being the best teams in the league, OSU and MSU are just horrible matchups for us. Athletic teams with physical bigs inside who get up in your jersey all game and pressure. I didn't expect it would get that bad tonight but once they were letting a crazy amount of contact go on every possession it was only a matter of time.
  3. Don't think so. Sassone had the same reaction as you did, then later corrected himself.
  4. Trenidad Hubbard was routinely putting up mid-.900 OPS' in his late 20's-early 30's. Would it have been unnerving if the only difference between a 21 year old CF in AAA and Trenidad Hubbard was age?
  5. What do you(or other Iowa fans, for that matter) think of him? He's incredibly solid and consistent. He filled in for Bulaga when he was a freshman, and I don't think anybody really noticed Bulaga was gone. I think he's better than Bulaga was, and pretty close to Gallery. I would agree with this. He's definitely more consistent than Bulaga was, not as dominant as Gallery was. He has the frame and build to get bigger/stronger without losing athleticism or quickness. I don't know that he can be an All-Pro LT but he definitely should be a solid LT. Then again I (nor anyone else really) had any reason to believe Gallery wouldn't be able to stick at LT.
  6. This is true. We got pretty lucky at Wisconsin with some of those misses. Then again Brust chucked up more than a few from 4-5 feet behind the line, Taylor was just below his average rate and Berggren followed up his 1-6 with an 0-5 against MSU. Everyone else only took a couple. Last night was more strategic. After letting Minnesota get into the lane too easily Fran switched to the zone and they packed it in. They didn't let Sampson get any mid-range stuff and Minnesota had no idea how to attack it for the most part. That's a team you want shooting 3's and it was mostly bad or average shooters chucking up 3's all second half. The closeouts on shooters and rotations have been much better the last couple of weeks. The offense has been good against 3 good defenses and they're getting into the lane often. As far as expectations, 6-9 the rest of the way for a 16-15 (8-10) would be good enough for some postseason and that's all I'm looking for right now.
  7. 6 games with PSU, Nebraska, Northwestern, plus home games with Minnesota and Michigan. 6 more wins puts them at 16-15, 8-10 and somewhere in the postseason if not the NIT. Wish we could have that Campbell debacle back.
  8. Fran can coach boyz, this team is coming. Completely pissed it away down the stretch with missed free throws when they've been money there all year. Thank God Minnesota didn't shoot a 3 at the end because no one has ever missed a game-winning 3 against Iowa.
  9. This thing better end in regulation.
  10. I don't get how he gets it off. It truly is baffling.
  11. Could be worse, he could be Tom Hamilton Yeah Hamilton is worse than Larivee. Cut from the same cloth though.
  12. Then you're doing something wrong.
  13. Elbow came in bounds first before the rest of his body landed out of bounds. Should have been a TD, given the ruling on the field. I actually agree. 3 factors that should have made it upheld: 1) The elbow hit 1st in bounds. That's the same as a foot, and it doesn't matter if the rest of the arm landed out of bounds. Once the elbow hits, if it is not touching the line, it's in bounds. 2) The ball did not move when it hit the ground. From my understanding, that is a catch. 3) The call on the field was a TD so it had to be conclusive to overturn. It was not. I'll certainly take it though! Agreed. It was especially bad that the ref said it was overturned because he didn't maintain control. What?
  14. They dropped to #2! It really exposes a flaw in the system in my opinion though. Pomeroy has admitted in the past that a weakness with the current form of his rankings is how teams can shoot up by destroying horrible teams rather than just beating them soundly. It seems like there should be some kind of adjustment with weighting.
  15. Bradley has been at PSU for like 30 years, so it may become an issue of loyalty to the guy That also makes it harder to say he didn't know of anything that was going on.
  16. i bet he would. there aren't going to be any openings at any top programs anytime soon and xavier is not a destination job. illinois is a big ten program that gets plenty of publicity, regularly gets top 100 recruits of the 4-star variety, and is getting a renovation job on the assembly hall. furthermore, mike thomas is from cincinnati and i'm sure knows mack well. the last 2 coaches left for illinois-type programs, also. as far as the alumni thing, i don't see that as that big of a factor when we're talking xavier. it didn't stop lickliter (butler being a very comparable school to xavier) from going to iowa, and iowa ain't illinois. illinois is still seen as a very good job, no matter how much iowa folks would like to deny it. First of all, I never said he wouldn't, I just think there's a decent chance he wouldn't. Secondly, I've never denied that Illinois is a very good job. Xavier is a much better program than Butler was when Lickliter left and Mack is making way more than Lickliter was. He hadn't made the tournament the 3 years prior to his final season at Butler.
  17. Mack is from Cincy and is a Xavier grad. He has a consistent top 20ish program. I don't know that he would leave for Illinois.
  18. I've just been maniacally laughing for the last hour and a half. This is so wonderful.
  19. Only caught bits and pieces with the Iowa bowl game but want to reaffirm my love for Hossa. He's the [expletive] man.
  20. Vandenberg was awful.
  21. I refuse to believe that.
  22. We didn't take advantage of your small lineup and get it to Basabe enough in the 2nd half. Everyone was so worried about getting to the line once we were in the bonus that we just got a lot of wild forced shots off the dribble. Overall though our offense was pretty impressive against that defense. Too bad, that was a good opportunity for the win. Good crowd on break but every time it got loud and everyone was on their feet Purdue blew past us for a layup or kickout 3. Purdue was just the smarter team and we couldn't keep them from getting into the lane off the dribble.
  23. Agreed. I wanted the foul, especially when it's not in Hummel or Smith's hands. As far as going for the 2 on that last possession, it just shows the complete lack of basketball instincts this team has. It doesn't matter if you have to shoot a forced 3, you need a 3 there.
  24. Purdue peeps, what's the latest on LewJack for tonight?
  25. Illinois was pretty clearly the better conditioned/deeper team. Minnesota was gassed in that 2nd OT and Illinois looked fairly fresh.
