Remember when Alford beat UCONN and had a ton of talent coming? Yes and I, like everyone else was pumped. We were leading the league in late January and 17-3 before Recker got hurt in '01. Preseason top 10-15 in '02 and then the wheels fell off. In hindsight, Alford was 36 with a shitty ass coaching staff and limited experience. When he finally got wise and made some coaching changes, things improved a bit. I'm much more confident in Fran's coaching ability, staff and player development and he's shown he has an eye for under-recruited talent. He's done it at multiple programs and built from garbage each time. We aren't expecting to be a contender in the B1G consistently, but at least a middle of the pack type program with the occasional Sweet 16 run or top 3 Big Ten finish.
