most selfish player i've ever seen. talented, still. Bingo. Cannot believe they lost that. They controlled the whole [expletive] game. I think OSU matched up much better with UK than KU does.

i think ohio state has the best chance with their athletes and thomas and sullinger down low. not much of a chance, but i always think that kentucky is invincible and then they crap the bed. The one difference I see is that this team isn't full of immature clowns or guys who want to get theirs first. I think they're better than UNC '09 or maybe Florida '07. Possibly further back than that.

Disagree. They play that way (MKG foul trouble, Jones no-show, Teague invisible most of 2nd half) and they get beat by either team Monday night. This should be a great game.

Adding to the obvious, it's a miracle this thing is only 7. 3 bad charge calls are key. As much as I hate it, I'm amazed with this UK team. Most talented team in the country but they stay unselfish and play their ass off on defense while keeping a pretty mature demeanor. They're way different from the '10 team.

What's going on with Illinois' staff? Saw on the Iowa board that Howard is leaving and Groce is likely to add Robert Smith and Deon Thomas but have no idea if he's full of [expletive].

The only reason I mentioned Grant and Miller was because I thought I read that they reached out to them, Hamilton and Romar. Maybe I just got the Miller thing from you guys talking about him though.

I think he was, are you familiar with Mike Thomas' history with Ohio? Well obviously there's no way of knowing for sure unless someone finds something through a freedom of information search, but do you really think he had Groce ahead of guys like Grant and Miller?

With the BTN and the stability of the conference while all the other craziness is going on, I don't think you'll see many B1G coaches leaving unless it's to a top-5 job or somewhere they have a major past history. *Penn State, Nebraska, Northwestern excluded.

[expletive]. Clicking on that thread I read Exile's comment about the rumors he was hearing that Kruger was going to take the Iowa job. Which then led me to a discussion about how Lickliter could be considered for the IU job (when Crean was hired) and how awesome of a coach he was. Which then led me to the Alford leaving/Lickliter hired thread. FML

How? I think its a top 15 program. Even if all of the teams on abucks list were better than us. That still puts us at 15. I mean sure his list is awful, he didn't include Indiana in it, but even using it we are right at 15. Clearly the job isn't that great otherwise they wouldn't have crapped the bed on the coaching search, but you keep changing conversations between historical rankings, current ratings and how good the job is. By getting our third choice? Did Gunether crap the bed when he got Self? Because he wasn't his first choice. We still got a young coach that was in demand and would have been in more demand in one year. Wait, you don't honestly believe that Croce was your third choice, do you?

It's nothing specific at Illinois. But the exact same things happen after almost every coaching hire at every school (including Iowa). The coach says all the things everyone wants to hear, everyone speaks positively about his past, current players/recruits talk about the good things they've heard and it's happy happy time for everyone. People who were skeptical about the guy or didn't like the hire start to admit that they're coming around on him after hearing all of the positives.

This change of opinion in Illini fans is shocking. Usually coaches lose the opening press conference and fans hate them even more afterwards. They never say things that fans want to hear and former colleagues/employers never say anything good about them. There's usually a big black cloud after a new hire and everyone is really negative.

A lot of fans want that, especially if they only move down a handful of spots or less where they would have a shot at Reiff, Blackmon (not as likely) or Claiborne. They do have a ton of holes so it all depends on the package that they're offered, but Kalil has been the clear best non-QB in the draft for months, they have a gaping hole at LT and it's a premium position.

LOL I'm stretching a bit lol. Although I don't get what those two are waiting for? Didn't we all agree for the last year that Stevens wasn't leaving Butler for the Illinois job? Then for some reason when Smart turned them down, some people acted surprised that Stevens stayed. Butler is going to be really good again next year and he's happier than [expletive], making good money and holding out for his perfect job. Shaka surprised me a bit but I didn't realize how much he was making there right now. I think there probably is something to the theory of coaches talking and hating the idea of dealing with Chicago. He also returns nearly his entire team and should have a big season next year. Like Stevens, it looks like he has his pick of what job he wants. There have been too many good, young mid-major coaches that got burned for jumping at the first big job they could. The money has gotten a lot better at the mid-major level if you have success. That trend has really taken a hit the last few years. Add Gregg Marshall to the list.

For like a minute and a half I stopped thinking about how Ohio has taken a step back in a one-bid league since Groce took over and got worried about him. Then I read that he thinks the world of Todd Lickliter, so it's all good now. Put him on your staff John!

Not much to talk about here, unless someone offers a big trade package, Kalil is the guy. They'll talk about how much they like Claiborne and Blackmon but everyone sees through it. With the 3rd pick, the Minnesota Vikings select Matt Kalil, LT from USC.

I'm assuming Thomas did not use a search firm, correct? That's the one big advantage they give you. They can contact everyone you're interested in, find out the numbers needed discreetly and avoid the public negativity.

those guys are all at 50 or pushing 50. groce is 40, which gives him a huge advantage. And Alford is a raging dbag. Of course he is. But he and Monson were both THE hot young coach in the country a while ago, were mediocre in the Big Ten and then immediately turned around another mid-major and have them winning at bigger levels then before. You could make the case that they both have a better idea of what went wrong and what they need to do in the Big Ten. Alford has found the right degree of shadiness with Craig Neal. Throw Howard into the mix and I think he could have major recruiting success. I understand not wanting a guy like Hamilton at 63 but I don't get ruling out guys from 47-50 based on age.

Did Randy Bennett or Marshall get much discussion? [expletive], Monson and Alford make some sense if you're talking about Groce.
