  1. yah, we really need another corey patterson and his 228 batting average :? Yes because the only thing you look at when acquiring a player are his stats in that current year.
  2. Thanks! Azumah is a playmaker. A Wisconsin fan who likes the Bears? I'm not sure if I've ever met a Badger who hasn't been a Packer fan.
  3. Provide an example of a player who does get a lot of RBI that is not a HR hitter. In other words, you could say that about anyone. Nevermind the fact that he is on pace to have a second consecutive 100 RBI season. You're completely missing the point. I'm comparing him to other HR hitters and looking at the amount of AB's he puts the ball in play compared to other sluggers. It's simple, if he walks 120 times and strikes out 190 times, that's 310 plate appearances where he isn't putting the ball in play thus almost eliminating the opportunity to drive in runs. Now he's looking at having only 350 PA's per year to drive in runs. Many of those will come with no one on base, just like they do for every hitter. Yes he should get 100 RBI again, because he'll likely hit 45 HR again. Last year he ranked second lowest in RBI among 40+ HR hitters only one ahead of Bonds and it's very obvious why he can't drive in as many runs. Some of you refuse to admit there are any weaknesses in Dunn's game. Again for the 10th time, I'm not saying that he's not a good offensive player or that he doesn't create more runs because of the amount of times he gets on base. But when you have that many plate appearances with no contact, you don't get the RBI's that other sluggers do.
  4. According to who? I saw one guy on this board say that, but there was never a source. The only time I heard Sabathia mentioned in a trade with the Reds was for Dunn and that was speculated on last week and earlier this week. There's no way the Reds would turn down Sabathia for Randa straight up.
  5. Yes RBI's are an independent stat and usually depend on the guys in front of you in the lineup. But you also can't argue that a guy who strikes out almost 200 times a year and hits only .240 is going to struggle to get a lot of RBI that a player like Dunn gets. If you figure that Dunn will strike out 200 times and walk 100 times, that means in nearly half of his plate appearances he isn't putting the ball in play. The only way for him to get an RBI in that situation is by walking with the bases loaded. I'm not saying Dunn isn't a very good offensive player or that I wouldn't like him on the Cubs. He's just simply going to struggle to get a lot of RBI that don't come the way of a home run compared to other players.
  6. You believe the rumor started here? I REALLY don't think so. If anything, I think we've established that this rumor circulated somehow in Cincy and that's where sweetemotion got it from. Instead of saying it was a rumor being circulated, he just said he had a source. Miles didn't pick up on it and ask Hendry from what I understand. Bruce saw this thread, and decided he would help us out by telling us that he knew there was no interest in a deal like that from the Cubs perspective. The report in the Daily Southtown today says "There was a rumor from the Cincinnati media the Reds were offering Dunn for Hill, Mitre and Patterson." Hal and Marty also don't strike me as the kind of guys who would frequent message boards, especially this one. This rumor started in Cincinnati somehow. sweetemotion probably saw that and thought he could pass it off here as a fact through a false inside source.
  7. I didn't see anything of his posted in this thread worthy of banning. Perhaps there was some kind of personal messages sent that caused it?
  8. He has the best breaking ball in our system. He has the stuff as you can tell by looking at his exceptional K rates. The question is and has been control. He struggled with it, but this year he's made a major leap and if that continues he's a front of the rotation starter. He has a very high ceiling and this year he's starting to realize the potential that he has by continuing to get K's consistently, but really cutting down on the walks. This is a lefty who has a 1.03 WHIP in over 100 IP this year in AA, AAA and the majors to go along with 158 K's in those 102 innings. Just look at the numbers.
  9. Exactly. If anything, this should give some credibility to the poster who started this thread. If Marty specifically asked Hendry about the exact same offer, it's clear that it wasn't something just made up by sweetemotion.
  10. Slimeball? You're going over the line. Seriously you're going over the line. What's wrong with giving him a day off during this long stretch of games without a day off in the heat and humidity. I also like how you won't acknowledge that Hairston has been struggling since Corey was sent down.
  11. All of them would be my guess. No he doesn't. I don't know specifically how many he goes to, but I know it's not all of them.
  12. Gerut has proven to not have any offense in 4 AB's? Wow. Also have you not realized that Hairston has slumped lately and has put up basically the same OPS as Hollandsworth?
  13. Gracias for the info... While I'd trade Hill for Dunn, Hill does have a very high ceiling. Exactly. I personally would make that deal, but people are making Hill sound like he's nothing. If he continues to improve and maintain the control the way he has this year, he has the potential to be a front of the rotation starter. This is the lefty who has a 1.03 WHIP in over 100 IP this year in AA, AAA and the majors to go along with 158 K's in those 102 innings.
  14. Oh boy, this should spark at least 28 more pages by tomorrow evening.
  15. ESPN.com says he has 238 career stolen bases and has been caught 86 times. That's 74%.
  16. A third? That's a bit of an exaggeration. For his career Pierre is a 74% base stealer and this year he's at 80%.
  17. He's also been hampered by injuries and a lack of playing time in that crowded Reds' outfield. Even though he may have had some luck in that 2002 season, he still put up those monster numbers as a 22 year old in the majors. In 2003 he still put up solid numbers for half a season when you consider he was only 23. He hit .264/.364/.455 with 15 HR and 58 RBI in just 82 games. He's extremely talented, still young and has more than just "some potential" in my opinion.
  18. I don't want anything to do with Pierre considering what we would have to give up and what we would have to pay him next year. On the other hand I'm apparently one of the few around here who is still big on Kearns. He would come much cheaper than Dunn, and would be paid much less than Dunn. He doesn't have the power Adam does, but still has a great walk rate, strikes out a little less, can hit for a higher average and is better defensively.
  19. Even if this is true (which I doubt) the earliest the Reds would trade Dunn to the Cubs would be Thursday night-Friday. There's no way they let him play his first game as a Cub against them. We'll see what happens here, I just don't see it.
  20. Is there anything official on when Nomar will begin a rehab stint?
  21. Why would he? He's facing a righty and we don't need to thin our bench with the Blanco and the pitcher's spot coming up. The Blanco? The Neifi has a base it. Yes it was a typo. Regardless the point stands.
