  1. Unfortunately Hairston and Dubois aren't doing much to earn more playing time early on. Hairston has now struck out twice on a total of 6 pitches. Not typical for Jerry.
  2. For those of you who are able to watch, should Dubois have made that play?
  3. Now watch Prior throw 8 pitches to the first hitter... Or 7 pitches the entire inning.
  4. That doesn't explain his love for Jeter though. Not that I need to point this out, but he loves to contradict himself. I think last year at the HR Derby, they had Reggie Jackson on while Tejada was batting. Morgan said something along the lines of "well if you look at the statistics, Tejada has actually put up better numbers than Jeter." Reggie of course interrupted him and said that no one has Jeter's intangiables and how he wouldn't take any player in the game over Jeter. As much as he loves Jeter and knowing his stance on stats, I was very surprised to hear him say that about Tejada.
  5. I doubt that. Peter plays close attention to the minor leagues and knows most teams' best prospects. He wrote about Pie and Murton a few times earlier this season. And if he was a GM I think he'd be very much willing to callup top prospects to fill needs. But I don't think the Cubs would have done that. That could be the case. He said it very definitively though, like he had gotten that impression from someone with the Cubs, rather than just what he thought they should do or what he would do. He may have been off, it just didn't sound like speculation.
  6. I got home early today and just happened to flip over to The Hot List on ESPN News. They're currently having a discussion with Gammons and Stark about random baseball items. They were discussing the play Kotsay made last night and then the possibility of him being moved. He said Beane is talking to his agent about locking him up, but right now the Cubs are the team that he's been talking to. They haven't been able to make anything work yet, but he thought that was the place that made the most sense, not the Yankees. But then he followed that up by saying that if Felix Pie hadn't gotten injured a couple weeks ago, he would have been called up already and would be hitting leadoff for us. Again this tells us that the Cubs are dying for a top of the order outfielder. I think if we see a trade, it's going to be for a Kotsay or Lawton rather than a slugger who gets on base.
  7. Hollandsworth has been hitting well lately. But I agree with you Ramirez should be 4th. He has for the past couple of weeks, but it's still not much. And if Ramirez is hitting 4th, you'd likely split up the lefties with Barrett in the 6 spot. It's a better lineup. He's hit well for over a month. He hit around .350 for the month of June.
  8. Per Santo, replays show that it was a HR..... The last replay shows it was clearly foul. It wasn't even close.
  9. The home run was definitely foul. They just showed a better angle on Comcast.
  10. Didn't you say the same thing the last two years?
  11. we already played 2 of the 16. Right, but I thought those were the first 2 of 18.
  12. Same here. The more of these reports I see, the more worried I get. I'm just hoping that they're trying to use this to hurry another team into a deal. If teams see that the Yankees and Cubs could be close to making deals, hopefully they'll get antsy.
  13. I thought we played the Cardinals 16 times after the break? Looking at the schedule, there are only 14 meetings left between the teams. Am I crazy, or wasn't it always reported/discussed as 16 more games?
  14. We might see that lineup once the Cubs are officially out of the playoffs. Does anyone know what Harry did to Dusty or the team to deserve this benching? I'm sure some of the blunders on the basepaths and his shaky defensive play are the reason. I wish he got a shot at more playing time also, but remember a lot of us weren't that happy with his play the majority of the time while Walker was out. He was popping up a ton of pitches even though he has no power and good speed.
  15. When he was mentioned before, Hoops brought up that he's taken a big step back in the 2nd half of the season during his career. After I looked at his numbers, it was clear that's the case. He has a had a tendency to break down in the second half and his numbers have almost aways taken a big step back.
  16. I still think Nomar will be back, if for no other reason than he has nowhere else to go. If Cedeno keeps hitting, I think you'll see the Cubs pass on Nomar, re-sign Neifi and break in Cedeno gradually like they're doing with Dubois. Are you confident that he'll be able to keep it up? Obviously it's not likely he maintains his .350/.412/.511 line, but do you think he can finish around .300/.360/.475 or is that too optimistic? If so there wouldn't be much sense in having him repeat AAA.
  17. Then why don't you guys concern yourself with who we could deal Burnitz for and who you'd rather have in RF? Corey is putting up very similar numbers even though he plays CF, makes half as much and is much younger. Not to mention that Corey has done much more than what we've gotten in RF. Corey has hit .272/.306/..447 for a .752 OPS. Burnitz has hit .262/.311/.451 for a .763 OPS. Our LF have combined to hit .239/.299/.391 for a .690 OPS. Yet Corey is the joke and we we want to get rid of him as soon as possible? Hmmm, I think I would rather get some decent production from our corner outfielders than run off a 25 year old CF who's producing just as well.
  18. Bruce Levine just reported that an MRI showed his inflammation has subsided and he will begin throwing. Very good news.
  19. If you get through you have to just keep hitting continue. I tried the Sat. April 9 game about 20 times (as well as over 10 other games) before I finally got my tickets. I was hitting best available and it was giving me the "We're sorry, we're unable to..." message, finally I got the tickets I wanted.
  20. Keep submitting your request. You'll get through. I'm just hitting best available and I've tried games in April and weekday games in August. Some of them have to have 2 available yet.
  21. Can someone help me quick. I'm in but no matter what game I request 2 tickets for it says we're sorry but we're unable to...
  22. It's my understanding that it doesn't matter what game you click on when you enter the VWR. Once you're selected it gives you the option of all games available to buy tickets for.
