  1. It would be different if a guy came through that organization and his splits were always like that. Then you could say that he was only a good hitter in Texas and terrible everywhere else. In 2002 he hit .319/.352/.582 away from Yankee Stadium and .281/.312/.510 at home. In 2003 he hit .306/.350/.567 away from Yankee Stadium and .274/.325/.480 at home. It's not like Soriano just made a name for himself hitting in Arlington. He has put up very good numbers on the road in the past.
  2. Why's that? Put him 5th in the lineup behind Ramirez and Lee and they won't all be solo shots.
  3. I agree. He's a pretty substantial upgrade in LF over what we have/have been getting. He may be the best realistically available upgrade in LF out there. I wish his OBP was higher also, but he may be the best available overall upgrade. I'm not too worried about the home/road splits and think he would do just fine in Wrigley. He didn't have a problem hitting on the road as a Yankee and it's not like he's a guy who just built a decent career by playing in a hitter's park.
  4. Yes but Nomar was also started to be rumored to be traded 2-3 weeks before the deadline. Manny's name is just now coming up 4 days before the deadline. Also with Nomar, the Cubs were the main team connected to him in the rumors and speculation with the media. There's really nothing tying Manny to the Cubs. If people get their hopes up extremely high or start to expect Manny, that's up to them. But with the little ground this rumor has to stand on, people shouldn't really be dejected or upset with Hendry if it doesn't happen.
  5. So you're judging the decision simply based on the result? The fact that we got 0 runs, wasn't based on the double switch. Gerut led off the inning with a double, so he did his job and the decision to put him in paid off. Unfortunately we stranded him at 3rd. Again, please tell me what was wrong with leaving Ohman in to pitch the 7th? He's our best situational lefty and there were two lefties leading off the 7th. On the last page I posted what Ohman has done in situations where he's been asked to go 1 and 2/3 innings. He's done it 6 times for a total of 10 innings with 5 base runners allowed and 0 runs. He can obviously handle working more than 1 inning.
  6. We also had about a 74 page thread on Dunn with the majority of the people wanting him and no "1000% chance of not getting him" posts. There are a number of players that could have led to a similar thread. That doesn't mean we should be dejected if we don't get him. Well of course more than a few people are really hoping it will happen. More than a few people would really be hoping and wishing a trade for A-Rod or Vlad would happen if there was the slightest hint that they were available. Again, that doesn't mean people should be dejected if it doesn't happen. The likelihood of Manny being traded, and being traded to the Cubs are very low. What do we know: 1. Manny asked to be traded. This is the 4th straight year he's asked to be traded. 2. Lucchino said they would take offers and look into it, but it would be a very difficult deal to work out on both ends. That's it. There isn't much pointing to a possible deal with the Cubs. If we had been reading about rumors for a player like Dunn or Ramirez for the past month and had an offer on the table where it looked likely but it didn't go through, then there would be good reason to be dejected. But this is wishful thinking and a pipedream trade more than anything else.
  7. Exactly and the first two batters in the 7th were left-handed. Lefty One Out GuY Ohman trying to go 1 and 2/3 innings probably isn't a great idea. Do you really take that term literally? LOOGY is basically another term for a situational lefty. If there are two lefties coming up back to back, that doesn't mean he can only face one of them for One Out. He's pretty effective at getting lefties out, they're hitting .213/.280/.340 against him. By the way why can't he work 1.2 IP? He's worked 1 and 2/3 six times this year. In those he's given up a total of 2 hits, and 3 walks. That's 5 base runners and 0 runs in a total of 10 innings when asked to go 1.2. But yeah, he probably can't work 1 and 2/3 innings.
  8. Exactly and the first two batters in the 7th were left-handed.
  9. He didn't want Ohman leading off the inning in a 1-0 game and Murton batted last. It's either him or Hollandsworth in that situation. Gerut just doubled. So pinch hit for him, it's not like Ohman is staying in to pitch the seventh. It just reeks of overmanaging to me. Obviously it worked out, but still, its odd. Are you sure?
  10. What does that have to do with anything? The discussion was just Cedeno not putting the ball in play with a man at 3rd and 1 out. No one was saying he shouldn't play.
  11. He didn't want Ohman leading off the inning in a 1-0 game and Murton batted last. It's either him or Hollandsworth in that situation. Gerut just doubled.
  12. Because he grounded into a double play? Walker should probably never bat 2nd again then either.
  13. The way you phrased this (even though it is a quote from the article) does not convey the fact that this is what one writer THINKS should happen. It is by no way even yet a rumor. That's not the problem. I think he had a problem that the only thing your post contained was a link saying "Astros acquire OF Moises Alou from Giants" and nothing to tell people that it was simply speculation and not even a rumor. When I opened it up I thought the same thing. The way it was written, it looks like the trade already happened.
  14. In Stark's chat he is saying that NONE of the Reds outfielders are available and that's what everyone is being told. The only player that will be moved is Aurillia. He also said the Astros gave up on Dunn two weeks ago. The Reds asked for Backe and another off their big league club, plus their two top prospects.
  15. Good Lord Roast, read Cuse's previous post in this thread (the one Jeff was replying to). He simply quoted Cuse. He didn't take anything out of context and there was no reason to correct him for it.
  16. He said IF teams are willing to overpay. Dont take things out of context, please. He didn't take things out of context, he quoted him word for word.
  17. Thanks for posting that. I just don't see it happening for a number of reasons. First of all, I don't see the Red Sox trading away Manny with the situation they're in right now. We don't really have/couldn't afford what they would want, so it would have to be the middle of a multi-team deal. Secondly, with all of clubhouse cleaning up management did last year, I can't see them taking on a guy like Manny. Boston's front office has been shaking their heads about this guy for years. Even though Boston has two off day's in 5 days, Manny refused to play yesterday which was his scheduled day off. Francona wanted him in the lineup because of Nixon's injury but Manny refused. He had the play where the other night where he got blasted because he simply jogged (slower than an Aramis jog) in the 10th inning on a DP ball. Now the paper's are saying that teammates are fed up with him and sick of the media letting his stuff slide with the "that's just Manny being Manny." Thirdly, would they really trade another superstar to the Cubs for the third straight year?
  18. Well it depends what you're looking for. Floyd gives us a much better chance to win this year and could basically take Burnitz's spot next year at a similar price. He's hitting .280/.357/.523 this year and that's about what we could expect out of him next year if he's healthy. It's a pretty safe bet that Murton won't be able to slug near .500, and I wouldn't expect his OBP to be much over .360.
  19. I'm just going crazy with the lack of rumors and speculation. Anyways, I would much rather have Floyd than Cameron. He could be a good fit, I'm just not sure if Minaya will give him up right now.
  20. I think they might have more interest in Gerut than Hollandsworth though.
  21. A fellow worker was telling me today that Bruce Levine was on the radio last night and reported that Hendry was talking to Texas. Levine didn't know who in particular he was talking to them about, but that Soriano is the one rumored to be moved and Texas is desperate for some pitching. We all know about Levine's track record, but a deal with them does seem logical. I just don't want Soriano and I'm not sure what Texas would give up.
  22. Not for a top prospect and Alomar still had the chance to be much better than Neifi. Come on, be realistic.
  23. I don't think it is. Just because they say they have no untouchable prospects, doesn't mean they're going to give up a top 10 prospect for a part-time player and defensive replacement. That would be like thinking it was realistic for the Cubs to trade Brian Dopirak for Desi Relaford, simply because the paper's reported that none of our prospects were untouchable.
  24. I think we need that posted in every single thread in every forum.
