  1. No, I'm saying it's not surprising that Williamson is struggling considering the fact that he's only 10 months from Tommy John. He and Carpenter's situations are totally different.
  2. Thanks for editing what you originally said. Answer me this, did Carpenter return to pitching (and pitching effectively) 10 months after TJS?
  3. Most pitchers aren't great in their first month back from TJS. Except the immortal Chris Carpenter... Exactly my point. Wow, I didn't realize Carpenter just came back from TJS in July. Did you just skip over the "first month back" part?
  4. He didn't say it made no sense, he said he didn't understand the question.
  5. Did you see the game? He had a very good bunt that was almost a single and smoked a line drive to LF, but it was right at the left fielder. The K was against a LOOGY who has held lefties to a .150 average. The most impressive thing is that he appears to be going with the pitch and using all fields, rather than just pulling the ball like he was doing before the demotion.
  6. Neifi's reaction to that fly out was priceless.
  7. Yep, another scoreless inning is right.
  8. Except I think Dusty believes it. Well he should. The players and coaches should believe that. As horrible as we've been they're about a 10-game win streak from having a chance. We as fans can see how unlikely that is and that the thing is pretty much over, but the players and coaches shouldn't and I'm glad if they truly believe it.
  9. Yeah, that stupid Baker. He should have said, "even though we're 7.5 games back with about 7.5 weeks to play, we're throwing in the towel and giving up for the rest of the season." Come on, no manager is going to say that. Every manager in baseball would have made a similar comment if they were in the same situation.
  10. You complained that he wasn't going to be playing enough and now that he's played 4 days in a row you're complaining? Wow.
  11. Do we really need these after every single loss? Couldn't this go in rants?
  12. You'd rather have Neifi gone so Cedeno could continue to start once, or at most twice per week behind Nomar? Now that Nomar is back, I would much rather have Ronny starting everyday at Iowa and let Neifi have his 1 start or so per week.
  13. Exactly, and that's where my previous point comes up in regards to Treebeard's post. If you change names because someone somewhere is offended, there will be no nicknames left. If a tribe or group of people is being degraded or the majority of that group finds it's usage offensive, that's one thing. There are ways of solving those problems without upsetting everyone and still keeping some tradition. But if some random white guy in Iowa finds Seminoles offensive, while the tribe, university, locals, etc. don't, then you don't change it. Common sense has to come into play at some point.
  14. Come on, that's completely different and you should know that. We're talking about the names of collegiate sports teams, not racial jokes. If you can't see the difference in the two situations then this discussion will go nowhere. What about the situation I proposed? The Seminole tribe is proud of Florida State University using it's name and the method of some of the traditions, the locals are proud of the name and the University itself is proud of the tradition involved. I'm some random white guy in Iowa who writes them a letter because I'm offended by it. Does that give reason for FSU to change their name? No, it's ridiculous. Common sense has to come in to play somewhere here. But you said it doesn't matter how many people are offended or if the group is offended. As long as people are offended, that should be the end of it. That's just wrong.
  15. I thought you were doing a pretty good job of making your point and defending your stance until this post above. People are always going to be offended by something. You have to judge it based on how many people are offended, why they're offended and how it is offending them. You can't just change rulings/laws/traditions/names because someone is offended or there will never be any rulings/laws/traditions/names etc. If there is a legitimate reason for a group of people to be offended, that's one thing. But if some white guy in California is offended by the nickname "Seminoles" at Florida State, but the tribe itself and the locals of that region aren't offended, you don't change it.
  16. It sounds like most of you have never coached before and possibly never played sports before. Pitching coaches handle everything pitchers do. They handle your fielding drills, covering 1st, pick off moves, etc. If something goes wrong and needs to be worked on, it's going to be the pitching coach out there busting them and making them do it right. There are a number of coaches who follow Dusty's style of not showing visible anger on the sidelines/in the dugout. His comments indicated to me that he gave them an earful in the clubhouse afterwards. That doesn't mean it's less effective than Larry Bowa ripping them in the dugout. The fact is, none of you have any idea what goes on behind closed doors. The one thing we do know, is that for the most part, that's where Dusty handles all of his problems.
  17. Sure we could do better, we could do better in a number of spots. But like I said, Macias is 12th in AB's on this team despite being here the full year. In the 100 plate appearances he's had, he has a .296 average with .311 OBP. That's certainly acceptable for a 25th man and definitely not a significant problem for this team. He also wouldn't have had that many AB's if Aramis, Walker and Nomar had been healthy. He wouldn't be at 85 plate appearances if those guys hadn't been injured. People think that sending off Macias will be a major accomplishment and help to this team. It won't. Can Fontenot play 2B, 3B, all 3 OF spots and be an emergency catcher? Even if it hardly ever or never comes up, every team has to have an emergency catcher. Because if it does come up and you don't have one, it's an absolute disaster.
  18. Macias is not a problem. I like Macias's attitude and hustle. What is is the problem is that Dusty uses him instead of Murton, Cedeno, or other younger players who need ABs to develop. Macias is to Dusty is what a bottle of gin is to an alcoholic. He's 12th in at bats on the team this year. He isn't used nearly as often as most think. Murton has 35 AB's in 18 games, Cedeno has 52 AB's in 29 games and Macias has 94 AB's in 69 games. When Macias played a corner OF spot, Murton wasn't up yet. I suppose you could say he's taken some AB's from Cedeno playing 2B, but he only has 16 AB's as a second baseman. He's appeared as a pinch-hitter in roughly 1/3 of our games, and many of those have come in the middle innings.
  19. And there's nothing wrong with a .296/.311 line out of your 25th man who has only the 12th most AB's on the team. He can play 2B, 3B, all OF spots and is the emergency catcher. He rarely starts but when he has, he's 21-62 for a .339 average and .359 OBP. He's had far fewer AB's than most around here say he has and he's had a good season for the role he fills this year, which is clear when you look at the numbers he's put up. He ranks very low on the list of problems on this year's team. The level of dislike for Macias on this board is ridiculous. Look at his numbers this year and compare them to other 25th men who can play as many positions as he can. I'm pretty sure Jose stacks up favorably against nearly all of them.
  20. He's hitting .284 And over .315 as a starter. Granted he doesn't walk and has no power, but he's not nearly as bad as people around here like to think.
  21. So I take it you guys have a lot of experience as athletic trainers, PT's and Orthopedic surgeons? No, I'm guessing you don't. You have no idea what Nomar's status is right now, what the doctors and his rehab staff are recommending that he do at the beginning and what he feels capable of doing right now. When a player comes back from an injury as severe as Nomar's was, you don't rush him. You ease him into things and let his body recover. You have no idea what risk factors there are, where he feels pain, what causes him to feel pain and how his body is recovering the day after he plays a full game. I love how people on the internet think they can diagnose an injury, know what's best for an athlete thousands of miles away whom they've never met before, and think they know more than qualified physicians who are dealing with the athlete daily. It's ridiculous.
