The only roster spot for him is as a third bullpen catcher. The guy can’t be allowed to touch a mound, he’s incapable of getting major hitters out at this point.

Skubal and Mize should determine how many teams are bidding on Detmers. I think? If Skubal is traded to Milwaukee or LA then it’s a doubles edged sword with the talent gap between them and everyone else widening even more, at least for 2026. I just don’t want to walk away with another Soroka. This positional group is too good to not at least give them a chance in the postseason.

That’s fair. Carson Kelly is the closest thing we have to one when Amaya is in the lineup.. Happ is the only bat who’s awful against left handed pitching so there’s not a ton of pinch hitting opportunities but sure, if both Ramirez and or Shaw are gone then you can recalibrate in the event of an extra inning game where you’re pinch hitting Conforto for Kelly or something.

Why do they need a right handed bench bat? Because Happ couldn’t get on base as the tying run in a game that they lost 8-7? That’s so far down the list of needs right now, especially on a team with a 119 wRC+ versus left handed pitching.

Sure. If the cubs are up by 10+ with a couple of innings left then I’m 70% confident that he’ll hold the other team to 9.

Not only that, Jed went after Bregman before Shaw took a major league at bat 2 off-seasons ago. So now they’re stuck finding him a position to play in the outfield until they find a trade partner for a pitcher they like, they’re auditioning for a corner outfield spot in 2027, turn him into a career utility guy with control if they can’t get the value they want, maybe Jed just really really likes Bregman. I have no idea but none of these are signs that they’re confident in Shaw, and extending Nico was the cherry on top. The whole thing is odd.

Taillon has allowed 10 earned runs in 11 IP versus the Pirates this year. Ashcraft has allowed 2 earned find in 11.1 IP against the Cubs. Those 2 wins were huge. Possibly Taillon’s last start.

We’re almost a week away from the trade deadline, if he gets shelled today, I can’t imagine he’s not DFAd by then.

Pirates are also very split heavy with a 114 wRC+ versus righties and a 92 versus lefties. The rotation was lined up perfectly for the series. Getting those 2 wins in were huge with Taillon going today.

Would the market for Skubal dictate the price tag? If the Tigers decide to hold onto him then you’d think he’d have more suitors and more teams bidding. Maybe not significantly.

Huge to take the first 2 with the righty mashing Pirates set to face Taillon of all people. Why is Pittsburgh throwing off speed stuff to PCA who clobbers breaking pitches with a pitching staff full of upper 90’s flame throwers?
