  1. I think the Sox 4% edge in inducing infield pop ups, which Fangraphs treats as strikeouts in their war calculation, without effecting FIP on the stat sheet and the pitcher friendly Wrigley park factor element relative to Sox park are the reasons for this.
  2. UPS finally delivered Bregmans pitch com hacking device and he hooked everyone up. @Banks-WilliamsI knew something was up.
  3. And a nice bounce back from last year when they went 0-3 vs Luzzardo and Nola scoring 2 earned runs in 19 innings compared to 11 earned in 10.1 since Tuesday.
  4. How bad is the Phillies defense and or how unlucky was Luzzardo with batted ball luck last year to where his FIP was almost a run lower than his ERA? The lineup is as deep as advertised so far scoring 35 runs in 4 games without an XBH from Suzuki, Busch or Bregman.
  5. Bote was never the cubs top prospect, let alone a top 100 at any point in his career. Unlike Bote Shaw still has trade value on a team that wants a high floor, young infielder with 6 years of team control. I see a smidge of Addison Russell in him too.
  6. Cubs have a 410 team wOBA since Sunday and a 313 xWOB with a 56% ground ball rate.
  7. Of course they hit a horsefeathers 3 run homer with their guys on while white we hit into a double play. horsefeathers the Phillies.
  8. If Happ hit free agency this year I wonder if they’d end up trading Shaw and keeping Cassie.
  9. Right. But it’s unclear what his future as a Cub is and any future in the infield was slammed shut when they extended Nico. Do they want him under team control for 6 years to be Zobrist 2.0? Is he auditioning to become Happ or Suzukis successor? Are they waiting for a player at a position of need to become available and then shop him? It’s just odd to see a team so focused on on staying under the tax spending a combined $326 million on 2 infielders blocking their top prospect at his natural position.
  10. It’s an incoherent plan. I’m assuming they want to keep their options open hoping he can supplant Happ? Unless you DH Bregman and develop Mo into an everyday catcher then he’s a lame duck if he still has an infield caliber bat.
  11. I’m pretty sure it was mostly muscle he added actually. I’m hesitant to go d line in round 2 like any other premium position. Someone like Gervon Dexter is a hit in the 40’s yet you’re not really moving the needle with a rotational guy who you could just as easily find in free agency every offseason, just more expensive. You can find a day one starter at safety or even linebacker/corner at 57 and 60.
  12. Assad is another typical high floor, FIP beating soft tossing Cub pitcher who gets shelled vs a team like the Phillies without pin point command. This is a bad stretch of games to have these injuries in the rotation.
  13. PCA would swing at a seagull in the outfield. He’s been brutal.
  14. He has no long term value on the Cubs unless he can develop into a mid 700’s OPS guy with a +glove to supplant Happ in the outfield with a clogged infield.
  15. Absolutely no power from the guys who carried the lineup last year. Wake the horsefeathers up Bregman.
  16. Another hit with RISP for the Phillies. Cubs wouldn’t score a run with bases loaded and 9 outs per inning. Enough of this horsefeathers.
  17. Literally. He hasn’t even hit it foul yet. It’s comical
  18. PCA is an immaculate 0-2 tonight. He hasn’t taken a pitch for a ball in his last 4 at bats (all strike outs) on no more than 4 pitches.
  19. Cubs are elite at advancing exactly one base, and 3 times max usually.
