This is Jed’s shot to go all in with Happ, Suzuki and 3 starting pitchers off the books next season. If the Mets need corner outfield help then moving Alcantara will be easier to package with Wiggins. It’ll leave a future hole in the rotation but Hortons lack of availability leaves a hole in the rotation and Wiggins doesn’t have a track record of health either. The ML roster for PPs is set for the future outside of corner outfielders and if they haven’t traded Shaw yet as a blocked player then I’d guess they view his bat as good enough to handle the outfield in 2027+. Trading him weakens a team that’s trying to win now.

He’s on pace for a 5.8 fWAR with middling offensive stats. If they’d show a side by side graphic of the catch probability on all hits into the outfield with and without PCA then uninformed fans would stop taking him for granted and crying and about his 236 batting average.

PCA hauls in Kelly’s ground rule double standing up which is another reminder of how great he is that the average fan misses when they look at his hitting stats.

I think it’s more annoying that they’re the 4th best farm system in baseball and only the third best in the division behind Pittsburgh and Milwaukee. The cherry on top is that the Dodgers ranked second.

I don’t know if they ever plan on stretching him and increase his workload as a starting pitcher or in a perfect world, playing the role of Andrew miller, but I really like what I see.

Brown is getting chase on his change up too. He’s throwing 4 pitches effectively.

Brown has allowed 1 Earned run in his last 23 innings for a .38 ERA, 23:6 K:BB ratio and a 2.02 FIP. This is a postseason arm that we badly need.

Busch only has 3 home runs too. Both need to start hitting like the middle of the order bats we’re counting on for consistent run production.

He has a career 791 OPS. At this stage of his career it’s unlikely he’d sustain his 900+ OPS all the way through September without steroids and hasn’t. His strikeouts are up and his rate stats are up too. That’s means he’s been better on a per PA basis. It’s like saying a quarterback who has the highest passer rating of his career isn’t worth extending because his completion percentage is lower than his career average. You’re focusing on all the wrong things. I lean Suzuki as well but in no way does it have anything to do with his increase in walks and home runs, which has contributed to better efficiency as a hitter based on his rate stats.

Your premise for why they shouldn’t resign him is his 225 average over his last 55 at bats. We have a 5+ year sample size as an everyday position player from Happ, plus his excellent start to the season and you choose his last 55 at bats as the reason to discard him? If you’d rather keep Suzuki that’s fine but not for any of those reasons.

People would rather focus on him striking out with bases loaded than being driven in the fourth from second base on a leadoff double in a 5-4 win. Both contribute to wins. He scores runs. And truncating a specific 2 week cherry picked sample size to prove he sucks with a 6+ year track record of solid production is even more absurd. We’re not talking about PCA or Busch who may or may not have had outlier seasons in 2025. If the Cubs had a prime Mike trout batting second Im sure he’d fly under the radar more but because he’s one of our best hitters people have these unrealistic expectations of him. I think anyways. I personally would rather keep Suzuki unless both agree to short term deals but his future is beside the point.

He has a 368 OBP and leads the team in runs scored with 32. Who do you think is scoring on those clutch base hits from Suzuki and Busch? Happ. The team has 12 hits since Saturday and Mo, Bregman, Nico and Swanson have been in an even bigger rut. Why is the focus on Happ specifically? He strikes out a lot, he’s streaky and seems to strikeout a lot in key situations. For a high 700’s OPS and GG defense in left field he’s paid accordingly. If he was being paid $200 million over 8 years then the amount of criticism he gets would make sense. they’re not scoring.6 runs/game fewer than at the 43 game mark last season because of Happ, it’s because PCA and Busch’s wRC+ have dipped from 134 and 133 to 93 and 108.
