  1. Bregmans inevitable. Move him the horsefeathers down in the lineup already.
  2. Figures. This bullpen from hell has held Milwaukee to 1 run through 4 and the offense can’t do a horsefeathers thing.
  3. Bregman prevented a run there by holding Hamilton to a single to his credit.
  4. One of these days Bregman will do something that matters. In theory at least.
  5. Cubs haven’t even gotten in base at all in the first 3 innings since Thursday.
  6. Who’s the teams starting DH and corner outfielder next year? Catcher is another possible need.
  7. Because he’d be ready by 2027. If they’re trading Detmers they’re already punting away the season. Why would they care? They’ll need to fill a couple of positions next year. If they go the free agent path then cost controlled pitching is a premium. If they hold onto to some of (not all) of their key semi blocked ML ready controlled talent then they’ll have financial flexibility to acquire pitching.
  8. Yeah. If Happ and Suzuki accept short term extensions then it’d be easier to justify a trade while the Hartshorn and others have another year to develop.
  9. Sure. If he’s expected to make a full recovery and even return this season then I probably wouldn’t consider it. The reason it was brought up is the Angels preference for MLB ready talent. Shaw and Mo let’s say is a heavy price that hurts now and next season, as much as trading Brown. If they don’t want prospects then that’s the idea. One that I’m ambivalent on but it’s a chat so why the horsefeathers not throw it out there. In essence you’d be swapping Brown for Detmers and a couple of blocked position players that you don’t really need next year or this year.
  10. That’s the gist of it. If they want MLB ready talent then then Rojas might not cut it. Brown would slash the price. Pedro and Alcantara I wouldn’t at all hesitate on but if we’re talking Shaw and Mo, 2 MLB ready guys that may or not both be involved then it’s too heavy.
  11. Yes. That means the roster is better by keeping a key contributor like Shaw while adding Detmers. Next year you’ll have a hole to fill in the rotation but a couple of immediate options on the position side since Brown would be a key piece if our trade partner values MLB ready talent. The Angles do business differently. That’s my opinion. It’s a hypothetical. Point taken that it probably wont happen.
  12. You asked me why they wound theoretically trade. Brown and I gave you my answer, regardless of whether of not Jed would. Trading for Detmers is going to hurt no matter what names they ask for and especially if they want MLB ready.
  13. Shaw is part of the everyday lineup for the most part. If you think the Angels would accept Alcantara and Shaw for Detmers then you don’t hesitate to make the trade. They probably won’t. By trading for Detmers you swap one rotation spot for another with an upgrade while keeping a couple of every day bats. Thats more money to be spent on pitching. It’s an alternative to trading away a bulk of position players with a 31 YO outfielders and a DH spot with uncertainty. It’s an alternative. The flip side to being short on arms is that there’s absolutely no need to upgrade anywhere in the lineup.
  14. They’ll also have over $100 million coming off the books. Some of those spots can be filled in free agency like Peralta. Reid Detmers is one of the best in baseball. I’m only throwing it out there. Trading Shaw hurts the team this year and the future and it won’t be a 1:1 swap.
  15. Because he might not pitch again this year. For a guy like Detmers it wouldn’t cost an already depleted farm system with corner outfield positions and a DH spot to fill. Mo and Shaw are can fill 2 immediate needs.
  16. Would they at all bite on Ben Brown, allowing you to keep Shaw and Mo while discarding Alcantara and Ramirez or is Brown’s injury too risky in the eyes of other teams?
  17. What would Detmers cost? The Angels are primitive and wouldn’t trade Ohtani at the trade deadline during his walk year, multiple games out of a wild card so it’s assuming a lot that they’d even shop him unless the asking price is outrageous
  18. I’m beginning to appreciate FIP based war watching this defense in real time seeing how the Pirates and Cubs are separated by .12 runs in ERA with an 8 war gap.
  19. Huge win yesterday now that they’re waving the white flag with Wicks.
