  1. I like the Renteria much better than Andruw Jones, Furcal or Torii Hunter. Those guys will cost at least $13 million a year. The benefit would be that the Cubs could save their trade chips for a starting pitching upgrade. I hope this sweep made the players hungry. I'm concerned that only one playoff team reappeared from last year.
  2. I'm happy the Cubs have time to rest up before the playoffs. Their work has only begun.
  3. Hi everyone, I just got the internet in my new apartment hooked up after a month. I have my video back just in time. I hope we're all watching a champagne shower later.
  4. I hope it goes longer than that. The Brewers winning in 16 is almost as good for the Cubs as them losing in 9.
  5. Let's hope Marmol turned into the next October Kid K. C-Mar? He should dye his hair orange so we can wave signs that say "Orange Marmol Aid!" when he strikes someone out.
  6. Is this coming as a surprise to anyone? That freaking team could sign Neifi Perez and Jose Macias and drag 100 OPS+ seasons out of both of them, complete with gold gloves. I really think that part of that is that they expect to win and the positive mental framing that goes with it. I highly doubt that. So you really think the drain of playing on a crappy team helps? Have you ever went from a crappy team to a good one? I don't think you'll take extra batting practice or watch more tape if you're already 30 games out and in the middle of your contract. This Cardinals team was atrocious in April and they're still not that good on paper. I think the Cardinals have the same mindset as the Bears: failure isn't an option. The Cardinals' only question is when they'll take over first. Let's make them look like fools.
  7. This team is ridonkulous. I was happy with the 30 game improvement between seasons. I hardly expected the rest of the division to fall back to us. Excellent. No matter what happens, this season has been a success.
  8. My favorite part was Floyd's triple pump.
  9. I predict that Chris Capuano comes in during the third inning.
  10. Yeah he's great if all you care about are lead off homers. I wouldn't touch that .235 avg and .285 obp He's also only 23 years old.
  11. Monroe will not get 35 starts. He's a cog that the Cubs didn't have yesterday: a bench player with power against lefties. I'll reserve my judgment until we see what we gave up. I can easily see Cotts or another underperformer from the 40 man roster.
  12. Let's use the PTBNL from the Izturis trade and call it a day.
  13. ESPNews said it was the Chicago Colts. It's impressive that the Rangers didn't have the benefit of the Cleveland Spiders.
  14. I predict Baltimore scores at least 12 runs in this game. Texas was like a teenager playing MVP Baseball '05.
  15. they're substantially better than the cubs. yet they cant beat the brewers joke you're right...the brewers should just lose every game from here on out so the cubs can play .450 baseball the rest of the way and coast into the playoffs. I'd be comfortable with that.
  16. Kendall gets hit in the left leg. 1 on, no outs.
  17. Nice! T'was a blast. Off Clemens, no less. Isn't that how Sammy Sosa started?
  18. Even the rain delays are sweeter when you're in first place.
  19. My cousin's barber's roommate heard that it was some character named McCutcheon.
  20. Neither of them are announcing this game today, so no worries there. Crap. That means they'll be announcing the Tigers-Yankees game... the one they'll be showing in New York.
  21. Which is why the Marlins trade was really really dumb from our side. And I'm now really happy that trade fell through. I had no problems with dumping Jones at the time. I had a huge problem paying for the privilege. I figured there would be regression to the mean but I didn't expect him to turn into June '98 Sammy Sosa. I always had a soft spot for JJ since Fantasyland.
  22. Lee's luck changes with 3 hits and 8 total bases. Cubs win 7-4.
