This game isn't as meaningful as it appears. It could provide Wood with a huge confidence boost that Lou trusts him to get any MLB player out in a tight spot. I mean, he has a 60% chance of succeeding for the win. Right? Right???
Wesley Willis? Ronnie Woo Woo + 150 pounds? Either way, shocking that we managed to go from EA to this guy on the same page of the game thread. ROCK AND ROLL MCDONALDS ROCK AND ROLL MCDONALDS CUT THE MULLET
So if we go 21-9 to finish the season, we are guaranteed to make the playoffs. I like it. Considering we are in the middle of a 22-6 stretch, I think its possible to do that. Keep in mind that the Brewers and Cardinals play each other tomorrow.
This inning is still going on? I watched 3 convention speeches and come back to another pitching change! Further proof that the Cubs can't lose even if they try.
Everyone needs to take a deep breath. The Cubs are down two runs after three innings. This thread sounds like we're down 10 runs to the Brewers. How many times have the Cubs gone down early only to rally for the win? What are you scared of? The Pirates bullpen? I thought the Red Sox had the fan base that derived their pleasure from complaining.
That's a big if. It's not like he got caught smoking a joint before a concert. The guy should have filmed his own A&E special. HBO documentary producers were probably looking for him harder than the Rays scouts.
I would have been livid if Jim Hendry promised a 25 man roster spot to a guy who spent the previous year living in a crack house. The odds of a junkie reaching All-Star status must be under 1%. That's not a risk I would be willing to take unless I could stash him in the minors somewhere. I'm sure the $50,000 looked like a safe bet in the risk analysis.
It's probably a combination of the long string of consecutive games that the Cubs are in, and the fact that Gaudin threw 52 pitches yesterday. It's not like they're stretching Dempster out in this game..they're just not taking him out early. Samardzija could pitch the last 2. Howry 1. Marmol or Wood 1. 90 pitches isn't a short outing. He was at 90 before this inning. It's not like Dempster is a 20 year old rookie. He should be fine.
nah.... it's only 3.25 ! When I said it he had given up 4 BBs and 9 hits in 3 1/3. 3.90 WHIP :P Off-topic: Hey rawaction, did you hear the actor who played Shonuf died? I'm not sure if that's why you made him your avatar.
I live in DC so I can't watch the game. I don't have a tv and I'm not even sure they're showing the game anyway. I read an article earlier this year saying the Nationals broadcasts were attracting 9000 people. What a waste of a beautiful stadium.
But it's not just one game. The offense does this a lot. Unpossible --- they aren't head and shoulders ahead of the rest of the NL by doing this alot. Poop happens. They are head and shoulders above the rest of the NL because they pour it on in blowouts. If you're going to lose, lose by one with the wind blowing in. I still wouldn't trade places with any other National League team right now.
But it's not just one game. The offense does this a lot. They've won 17 of 21 and are lapping the rest of the league. It's not like this team is pulling a '69 Cubs. Or a '04 Cubs or '07 Mets, for that matter.
Baseball Prospectus mentioned in passing today how DeRosa was one of the best defensive 2Bs in the league. I thought that was odd but he certainly proved my instincts wrong tonight.
You know you suck when Paul Bako is hitting better than you are.... I'm especially bitter because I ate off the VineLine in my youth. I remember Corey Patterson walking twice on Opening Day in 2002. I stomped around and said his jersey should read "G-O-D". I asked how cheap a flight to Cooperstown would be if I bought it 15 years in advance... yes, it was $1 pitcher night.
