  1. Hendry can say whatever the hell he wants. Miles was brought here to replace DeRosa. I would hardly call DeRosa a bench player. Fascinating. You rarely see that type of argument outside of a political screaming match.
  2. Fred, what's your record for consecutive posts? You might have the whole thread by 9/15.
  3. Heilman for Madison Bumgarner and Kung Fu Panda.
  4. I agree. The guy has always hit. I can't imagine he'd do this poorly two years in a row. Besides, who's going to take him and that contract? I concur. It's not like Bradley is a sunk cost. His OBP is over .400 and he fits the 2 spot perfectly. The question is where are we going to get a slugging middle infielder? Dan Uggla is a below average defender who hacks at everything.
  5. They should put Milton Bradley on the DL with Todd Hundley disease. KBF, I appreciate the optimism but check out the Baseball Prospectus playoff odds. The Cubs were the best team in the league on paper this offseason. Now they won't play meaningful baseball in September. Everyone should be disgusted. The Cubs didn't have lethargic games like this last year. THAT was a playoff caliber team. This version doesn't deserve to make the playoffs. They certainly haven't earned it.
  6. I'm curious. Was Soriano booed worse than Bradley after his error?
  7. You are a stronger man than I. In a related note, this will bethe first time I'm prepared for my fantasy football draft since 2006. Got your draft slot assigned already? Both my leagues pre-draw the draft order. It makes things much better. I have the 4th pick but it's a keeper league so the remaining players are almost random.

  9. I'm listening to Rob Dibble on the Nationals broadcast in Washington DC. He's absolutely tearing into Soriano and Bradley. He spent half an inning ripping Soriano and he read all of Bradley's recent quotes verbatim.
  10. Maybe it will rain and they'll show Kerry Wood's 20 K game. This season collapsed faster than the Kingdome.
  11. I missed yesterday's game. It feels like there are only survivors straggling today.
  12. Yahoo had a .000 listed as the average for Aaron Miles. I didn't even think about it until I saw your post.
  13. Am I crazy or could Brooks Raley be potentially the 2nd best player the Cubs drafted? I assumed the Cubs wouldn't sign him, let alone for under a million.
  14. Let's keep this up for, oh, the entire second half of the season.
  15. I wish Mark the best and hope there's a happy ending to his personal tragedy.
  16. They arent awful. Gorzelanny has been good in 2007 and 2009, just horrible in 2008. Grabow has pretty good three year splits against LHB and is going to be Type A Him being Type A is a BAD thing. Type B would be better. Grabow will be eligible for $2.3 million in arbitration. He would take that.
  17. Pittsburgh isn't even sending money over with the deal. Alderson could be Pittsburgh's #2 starter next year.
  18. Here's the current update: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/07/cliff-lee-update.html
  19. This mindset explains the Orioles' recent woes. I think Hendry watched the Bedard trade unfold and got cold feet.
  20. I'm not quite sure what it was that made him struggle earlier in the year. He wasn't injured and the demotion was just a "finding himself" period, like you said. His K:BB ratio wasn't much worse than it is now (22:9 and 15:4 in April and May), but he gave up 35 hits in 26 innings in April and 31 hits in 17.2 innings in May. Since then he's allowed fewer hits than innings pitched in June and July - but I have no idea what he's doing differently now that he wasn't doing the first two months. Nolasco was severely unlucky earlier this year. He had a historically low strand rate causing his ERA to be much higher than his peripherals.
  21. I'm shocked and pleasantly surprised the Matt Lawton trade bore any fruit at all.
  22. Now Yuniesky is hurt. The Royals could have gotten Julio Lugo without giving up quality prospects if they waited a week.
  23. Wells: .731 OPS, .264 EqA Rasmus: .823 OPS, .286 EqA I don't think Rasmus alone would be enough for Halladay, but Rasmus is probably as good (or close to it) as Wells is right now. Not to mention tens of millions of dollars cheaper. How much extra do you think the Cubs would have to give up if the Cubs traded Alfonso Soriano for Adam Lind?
