  1. Dusty probably blames Wayne Krivsky and Walt Jocketty for sticking him with Jay Bruce and not getting rid of Adam Dunn sooner. At least now he can pencil in Corey P. as much as he wants.
  2. I was disappointed to hear the Cubs would miss Harang, ecstatic to hear they'd face Josh Fogg.
  3. The loss yesterday knocked our Baseball Prospectus odds of making the playoffs down to 98.4%. I'm really heartened by Sean Marshall's start yesterday, even in the loss. I love this Cubs team because their worst is league average.
  4. 75-47. It just rolls off the tongue.
  5. Cubs win! That knocks the winning percentage back over .600.
  6. Pat & Ron reported that Carpenter has a right triceps strain.
  7. Better yet rest him on Monday! Didn't Theriot foul a ball off his foot? I heard somewhere that he has a deep bruise.
  8. I hope there's a Cardinal's fan wearing an Edmonds jersey with a tear running down their cheek.
  9. The Brewers game is going into the bottom of the 13th. Let's root for a 20 inning game.
  10. Rotoworld reports that the Orioles (of course) called up Luis Montanez to fill the bench. Now we'll finally get a chance to see if he was worth a top 5 pick.
  11. Scoutingbook.com took their 2008 list and removed everyone who used up their rookie eligibility: http://www.scoutingbook.com/prospects/ Josh Vitters comes in a #9! I like him as a prospect but I certainly didn't see him as a top ten guy yet. I don't think the list includes any 2008 draftees. It seems everyone but the Sporting News loves his upside: http://www.scoutingbook.com/players/p2167
  12. The Cubs bullpen might have a better receiving corp than the Bears this year.
  13. The players involved are different that previously reported. From Rotoworld: At first glance, I thought that the Pirates included Andrew McCutcheon and my eyes almost started bleeding.
  14. Hey, it's Spanish from Old School!
  15. Let's hope that DL stint brings back the 2007 Ian Snell.
  16. How did the ex-Cubs do for Oakland last night?
  17. I'm surprised Len and Bob didn't mention Wolverine the X-Man. That nickname makes sense for a relief pitcher who makes a lot of appearances.
  18. It would be great to have good Rich Hill back. Someone with better Photoshop skills than me could make a new promotional poster for The Riche$ on FX.
  19. Plexiglass principle. Virtually no player is as bad as they look during a statistical nosedive, and can usually be expected to bounce part of the way back. That nosedive lasted at least a year and a half though. I though Fred McGriff would have been a more timely pickup. I'm glad to be so wrong.
  20. I have no explanation, sabermetric or otherwise, to why Edmonds is so good this year. Mindboggling.
  21. Just wondering: Who would Pittsburgh use as their closer? Grabow? Romulo? Yates?
