  1. That's the thing about the Sandberg deal. . . it's always "I've heard." I've never read anything credible about it. I do believe that where there's smoke, there's fire, but the deal is probably not as bad as it has been rumored. . . . . still, it can't be good either. One thing to consider is that Ryno was good, but not (in my mind) good enough to demand the Cubs trade Palmeiro in 1988. Ryno was my sports hero growing up, but Raffy had the better 87 and 88. I just can't imagine a player telling a team what to do --- especially when that player has the supposed persona of a field mouse.
  2. We should just tweak it a bit to "Teats" I always thought teats were small ones ;)
  3. weren't we leading the wild card when he signed in 2004? We haven't sniffed a play off race since then.
  4. What's his PLWHIP+ERA? (projected leftfield WHIP + ERA)
  5. I know it's terrible of me, but I'd love to know more about the alleged players that Sandberg gave the Cubs ultimatums on. It blows my mind that if all of this crap were true , that good ol' Ryno couldn't just tell his whore wife to leave town. I'm sure some is true and some isn't. The Cubs could have been incredibly kick ass if they could have held on to a core of Sandberg, Dawson, Grace, Palmeiro, Maddux, Sutcliffe, and Lee Smith.
  6. The whole "opt out and resign" is looking like a good move by ARam. There aren't too many 3b better than ARam this year.
  7. I couldn't figure out who "tubby" was. I always considered Rusch as "lard ass."
  8. I'd also like to say that I'm not riding Murton's jock or anything. I think he's a good young ballplayer and based on what I've seen, he probably deserves a chance to play a full year. However, if the Cubs can swing a deal to get a top tier slugger to replace him, they'd be crazy not to do so. It'd be great to keep him and get rid of Jones, but that's highly unlikely (if they are to get a super stud OFer).
  9. Sandberg was destined to be a speed player until a coach took the time to work with him. Couple that with a great work ethic, and a hall of famer was born. I don't think the Cub coaches know Murton's first name, let alone be willing to get one on one with the guy and work with him. I have no proof of this, of course. However, Baker's "he's got to be more aggressive" comment leads me to believe Murton isn't really on their radar.
  10. All indications point to Izturis being next year's SS. That leaves you with a decision to make on Murton and Cedeno. You simply can't get by with both those guys in the lineup. Now, looking at their production, only a doofus would take Cedeno over Murton. At this point, he's a hack at 2b and hits almost as bad as Neifi. Murton has done quite well under the circumstances. He actually looks like he has a clue up there at the plate. My hope is that the Cubs send send Cedeno packing and get an offensive minded 2b. I also think (right or wrong) they'll keep Pierre. If they could spin Jones somwhere and get a legit Power Hitter for RF, Murton would be able to flourish in LF and hopefully hit 2nd. If not, the idea of him platooning with Jones (and signing a power hitting LFer) until Jones is gone might be the best option.
  11. Was Lee's middle name Jose? I thought Ryno's woman had an affection for the latino ball player. I had heard Lee Smith was one of her men. Of course, I should be surprised. She apparently boinked every member of the team not named Gene Michael.
  12. a lot of people expected jones to hit .240 with 20 homers and a hanful of RBI. He's far exceeded expectations.
  13. They probably should have went with Ryno's three greatest plays.
  14. He has a twin brother named Fukmedome
  15. That's actually my cousin Bobby Joe. Him and his folks have been feudin' with the Morans for centuries. He hates the Morans, but he loves the USA.
  16. has he played a full year at AAA? if not, he needs to earn the next start. . . . can't make a career out of pitching after 18 inning games. . . .
  17. similar effects can be seen on Emperor Palpatine.
  18. after his rookie season (87), he didn't hit over .260 until 1992 (.268). After '87 he didn't post a slg% above .500 til 1992. His '91 season was wonderful. . . .201 / 22 hr / .383 slg 95 is when he really started mashing. Of course, everyone started mashing in 1996. . . . 345 of his homers were hit from 95 - retirement. He killed his HoF chances when he "testified" for Congress. I believe that put enough doubt in the voters' minds that they'll look at the numbers and say "hey, this guy didn't do much before he started juicing. .. .no way I vote for him."
  19. holy smokes, when did Lidge start throwing left handed?
  20. sentimental ol' me prefers no names on home jerseys. I grew up with the kick-ass royal blue pullovers from the 82-89 era.
  21. it may not be an indication of "count working" but Aramis walks a fair amount of times and has really low K totals (even this year).
  22. The dodgers told him that Pacific Standard Time was actually 4 months behind Central Standard Time.
  23. Well, you know it helps to play on a team that cares, etc. . .
  24. Is Aramis doing anything statistically different this year than last? I seem to recall him starting slowly and finishing strong --- ending up with another good / great year. Players rarely keep consistent stats all year long. Maybe ARam simply takes the Sandberg route and gets his "bad" stuff out of the way early.
  25. ask him he he had sex with Ryno's wife ;)
