  1. In my fantasy world of MVP, the Cubs win the Division in 06. The NLCS in 07, and the WS in 08. They play the twins in the WS in 07 and 08. Juan Pierre wins the 06 and 07 MVP. He wins the 08 WS MVP. Prior wins the 97 Cy Young Z wins in 08 Wood leaves after 06. Brad Wilkerson is had in mid 06 for Scott Williamson and Wade Miller Willy Mo Pena is a 07 FA pick up for cheap. Brandon Wood is picked up on early 06 for Jerome Williams. Wood starts in 07 and 08, winning the 07 ROY. Scott Kazmir is picked up in exchange for Ronny Cedeno. Brandon Webb is picked up in exhange for Rich Hill. For 2009, Felipe Lopez is picked up via FA. The 09 Lineup: Pierre CF Lopez 2b Lee 1b Pena LF Wilkerson RF Wood SS Ramirez 3b Barrett C Zambrano Marshall Prior Kazmir Webb
  2. At this point, there is no way Baker can come back. If he's been extended and they now want to get rid of him, they'll have to buy him out. This potentially could be really really really ugly.
  3. contraction and play off format from pre 1994 would be a-okay with me :)
  4. Ahhhh, but silence can say so much. Instead though, Hendry chooses to publicly endorse Baker again and again. And let's not forget it's way past time when most other managers would have gotten the axe. My vote is: Hendry means every word of it. And we're stuck with Baker for the rest of the season, and perhaps beyond. If the media asks and hendry says "no comment," then all hell would break lose --- if they don't want to fire Baker during the season, this would not be a good situation. I doubt Hendry is going out of his way to give baker a vote of confidence. Historically, the vote of confidence has been the kiss of death for pro coaches / managers. Then again, this organization is so bass-ackwards that this vote of confidence is just that. . . baker stays. . . . . grrrrrrr.
  5. They were fairly solid for the 1st half of '87. I'm thinking they were less than 10 games out at the break and 4-6 games above .500. In typcal 80s Cubs fashion, they fizzled in August (see 1985 and 1988). I think that's why I don't recall the cubs always "sucking" like people like to think. when I was a kid, I did most of my watching from opening day til August (when school started). For the most part, the cubs were decent-to-good during that time.
  6. I wouldn't look into that much. Seriously, did anyone expect Hendry to say "Well, as you all can see, Dusty sucks monkey gonads. There's no way in hell we keep him. I mean, the guy has the brain of a two toed sloth. I've royally screwed the pooch on this one -- my bad guys. We'll get a "do over" and see where things take us in '07. Thanks for all the money you goobs have paid to the club. So long, screwy. . . see ya in St Louie!" He has to say nice things at this point.
  7. Do you think many south arkansans have clue what "Ryne" spells. Better yet, when you say his name, they ask "oh, cool, like Nolan Ryyy-an" NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Jim Hendry sucks.
  8. I sincerely hope you never plan on being a GM ;) Speed and Defense win games, brother!
  9. I remember Ryno throwing his bat at a pitch-out. He beat it out for a single.
  10. How does the Cubs' 25-8 record when scoring 4 or more runs compare to the rest of the league? That seems like to could be a very telling stat for the cubs.
  11. Let's get this gravy train rollin' now that we've got our lead man back in teh saddle! Yee haw, buckaroos! DLee comes back. Marshall continues his solid play, and the CUBS WIN A GAME IN THE HOMER DOME!!!!!
  12. They can't possibly be as blessed as the rockies.
  13. no way, dude. There are but two options: 1) DLee is getting called up from AAA. He may need to watch how the major league game is played first. 2) Since Womack is being put on the DL, DLee will have to take his spot. That means hitting 2nd and playing 2nd. These can be found on page 121 of the unwritten rules of baseball.
  14. Nevin will get the day off. Neifi to SS Walker at 1b DLee replaces womack at 2b. Awesome!
  15. I really hate it when someone posts / says "XYZ team's fans are jerks / idiots /etc." All teams have douchebag fans. . . .even the mariners ;)
  16. Dlee seems to look a lot bigger in uniform. My mom snapped some pics of him working out during the april series against the marlins (right after the injury). Lee had on a sweat shirt, tennis shoes, and pair of shorts. He looked like a basketball player --- long, lean muscles, and very little "bulk." He looked like a pure athlete.
  17. I'd love to send Murton to AAA and bring up Carlos Lee ;)
  18. well, Matt hasn't pitched very well this year. In addition, his play at 2b has been atrocious. For the love of God, why is he even rumored to be sent down? He's nowhere near one of the worst players on this team. Sending him down does nothing positive for the guy.
  19. Thank you. Anything is possible with Trades. Who knew DLee was a possibility back in the 03-04 off season? If I'm the GM, I may not advertise who is available, but let's be honest --- everyone should have a price. It's just like in our own lives. I may not advertise my house is for sale, but if the right deal were to come along, it's gone. Same with players. . . . Zambrano included. Anyway, what team would trade position for position? If one player is better than the other, why trade? If they are equal, why trade? Also, we can just have one of our secondbasemen play third. . . we'll just tell 'em to throw the ball harder ;)
  20. Am I honestly the only one who doesn't care at all about the success of the Sox? I mean, I don't even notice them. And they're not even in the same league as we are. Up until 1997, we didn't even play them. I understand liking one team over the other, but the idea of treating the other as a "rival" and hating them has always really puzzled me. here, here. It has to have something to do with growing up in chicago (which I did not). I've never cared one way or another about them. I actually pulled for them to win the WS because I just couldn't bring myself to root for the astros. As a matter of fact, I can't think of any mlb team that I "hate." I love the Cubs. I don't dislike other people who like other teams. I go to games to cheer for the cubs, not talk crap about the opposition. Back to topic (oops). I'm sure things might be different if I were a native chicagoan.
  21. Dusty might get promoted.
  22. Not entirely true. Each year, some of the bad teams still have .500 records (or better. . . or pretty close to .500).
  23. bhogg

    Who?

I think he's doing better (at this point in the year) than last. He stunk for a while last year, then went on a DLee-esque tear.
  24. you may be on to something
