  1. well they really jumped the shark when they hired people to write their songs for them. DANG! I didn't know that! I cannot stand it when "artists" don't write their own material, especially ones that are trying to be taken seriously. It's one thing when the Spice Girls don't write their music, but when a band like Aerosmith doesn't, that really blows. It's actually the main reason that I don't respect Elvis as a musician very much, I don't believe he wrote any of his stuff. There weren't that many artists writing their own material when Elvis started. Typically, the producers would require their artist get writing credits before they'd record a song. That's why you see Elvis' name as writer on so many of his records.
  2. KISS's best stuff is never heard on the radio. They were never the best musicians, but they catered to their fans were an incredible rock band.
  3. i love having things forced on me. . . bring on saturday baseball :(
  4. i'm amazed at how many folks don't know what a fungo bat is.
  5. it's sad that they piss off thousands of fans and nothing gets done. piss off Bud and now things might change.
  6. the cubs are 14.5 games out. If they'd have won 4 of Demp's blown saves, they'd be 38-50 and 10.5 games out
  7. Is Neil Young really southern rock? LS gets my vote, but dang it's a tough call.
  8. I don't know about kids these days, but when I was a kid I was always excited about the all star game. This was before HR derby was televised, too. Now, I'm kinda "blah" about the whole deal and I have a feeling that kids are the same way now. BTW, I was a "kid" from about 84 til 93
  9. Springteen's work with the E Street Band is completely different (and much better IMO) than his solo stuff.
  10. I didn't know they had such a following. They always struck me as one of those pleasant classic rock station bands who were nice to listen to but didn't do much in the way of changing the landscape of music. "Fortunate Son" was quite a song during its time. CCR has a very sad story that ended with the brothers basically hating each other. At one point, a couple of the brothers sued John Fogerty for plaigerizing (spelling?) a song that HE wrote. Crazy stuff. I've never heard a Radiohead song in my life (I'm only 29). I've listened to CCR since I was in diapers.
  11. If they decide to keep Pierre and Jones, Pie will have to wait --- maybe even be traded. It just seems like it would be tough to support having such a light hitting outfield. I'd have to go with a FA signing (such as CLee) or maybe even use Pie in a blockbuster trade to bring in a big time OFer. At this point, I sure wouldn't mind the Schmidt / Soriano signings. That would still leave a glaring hole in the outfield (unless Soriano was made to play LF).
  12. The Mets are the only team 10 games or more above .500 and they are by no means a stellar ball club. The sad thing is that as pitiful as the cubs have been, they are only around 12 games out of the wild card. It's entirely possible for management to think that they can make a run and get back into the race.
  13. my biggest fear is that the goob that runs this team might have had his mind made up before the beercrew series that baker was gone. Now, that goob might be thinking "oh, they've turned the corner" and baker will remain.
  14. this is the funniest thread I've ever read. Don't get me wrong, I hope we could somehow get A Rod, but really --- why in God's name do the yanks get rid of him --- especially for anything collecting dust on a cub roster?
  15. I wish the Cubs were built to withstand a bad offensive catcher; similar to Matheny's run with the Cards. Their offense was so good that it wasn't such a bad deal having Matheny hitting 8th every night. I wish we could have held onto Miller. He had a bad 2003, but other than that year, he's been a .260 / 9 / 50 kind of guy and has always had the rep of being a good receiver.
  16. has anyone mentioned that Tim Raines has an excellent case for HoF induction? As for him being a franchise player, I always thought he was the Expo franchise after Dawson left.
  17. He'll likely look for players with little or no toe jam on their bats / helmets / shoes.
  18. we don't have enough players with facial hair. that's the key.
  19. Gammons' HoF speech in 2005 was simply beautiful. I made the trek to upstate NY to see Ryno, but was pleasantly surprised by Gammons. Okay, back to getting A Rod. . . . . bwahahahahahahahaha.
  20. Barrett is not there because he lost his cool and decked AJP. It probably came down to Barrett and the catcher from Atlanta.
  21. This guy appears to not be the typical bench guy with speed and a light stick. He "looks" like a good player (if that makes sense). Anyone have any idea what his potential for power, etc is? I just have a good feeling watching this guy play.
  22. Is it stealing if the other team allows you to see the signs?
  23. it was beautiful. The guitar was perfect.
