  1. Bruce, you're the only Cub reporter I bother reading. I've done my best to spread your gospel to the rest of my cub buddies. Keep up the good work!
  2. Woulda been handy in 84. How so? I thought SD got home field due to a stupid rotation.
  3. i don't know if you're joking or not, but I can't imagine they'd make something up like that. They have no reason to.
  4. I am watching the dodger / rockie game and the announcers said that Maddux said something along the lines of "it's good to be on a team where the players care about playing, etc ,etc, etc. . . ." They said it was direct cut at the Cubs and that it was out of Maddux's character. I've looked around the web, but haven't been albe to find anything. Did any of you guys hear this, too?
  5. I don't like the guest conducter BS, but it has nothing to do with what goes on on the field. The homer thing is great --- somewhat of an attitude, if you will. Now, tearing down Wrigley. . .. an argument could be made that it could spur the Cubs to get their act together and put a good product on the field.
  6. yeah, give the guy a little credit. a few years ago, we'd all cringe everytime a ball was hit to 3b ---- he'd airmail the routine plays. Now, he's fine.
  7. In a perfect world, we'd have a good CF and a good RF, which would allow Murton and Pagan to battle each other for the final OF spot :(
  8. depending upon who the new manager will be, Murton could very well be our #2 hitter. It shouldn't take a genius to see that's where he should be hitting.
  9. So where will the Hogs be ranked after they beat Southern Cal? ;) I don't see them beating USC, but getting into the top 25 isn't out of the question. Damn, I love college FB.
  10. I don't buy into the "we not gonna win next year" idea. No one in the central is setting the world on fire, nor do they appear to be in line to be all that much better next season. A fine example of what a year can do for you would be the Tigers. Sure, some folks thought they'd be competetive, but who really thought they'd be the best team in baseball? I'm not going to worry too much about the remainder of this season. Our transformation should begin about a week or so following the WS --- aka: Dusty's determination. Everything will "flow" from there :)
  11. Maybe Aramis (and other cubs) have somewhat of a baseball brain and have seen the bonehead screw ups that Baker has employed over the past 3 years. Anything is possible, right?
  12. might as well put sid in the HoF. . . . he can't be any worse than maz.
  13. Realistically, who would be other options for hitting lead off next season?
  14. My "dream 2007" would be this: CF Pierre 2b Loretta (aging, but a pretty good fit, and fairly cheap) 1b Lee 3b A Ram LF Carlos Lee C Barrett RF Jones / Murton platoon SS Izturis SP Zambrano SP Schmidt (or some other good FA pitcher) SP Prior SP Marshall SP Hill / Guzman / whomever This would require the Cubs to sign two "stud" free agents -- something I cannot remember them ever doing.
  15. this is the sort of thing that pisses me off about message boards ---- here we have a few guys who, with all things being equal, are both rooting for a common goal -- Cub sucess. However, becuase they look at things differently, crappiness ensues.
  16. Many things can be argued, however, it is pure fact that the Cubs suck. The only thing that can be argued is the level of suckiness which they reach.
  17. I like that idea, too. .. .. I just haven't figured out who wuld be our lead off hitter. Our fearless leaders would be tempted to put Izturis there.
  18. i wonder what Bill Pecota's PECOTA prjections were?
  19. Five year PECOTA projectsion from BP: Year AVG OBP SLG VORP WARP 2006 .262 .305 .337 5.2 3.3 2007 .265 .308 .245 6.3 3.3 2008 .260 .309 .335 4.5 2.8 2009 .265 .312 .341 6.1 2.9 2010 .257 .304 .334 2.5 2.0 Doesn't look good. Bill Pecota doesn't know what he's talking about. . . . . http://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/pics/bill_pecota_autograph.jpg
  20. I'd love to see someonw like Loretta at 2b. He seems like he'd be a good #2 hitter. Finding someone to hit second could really set the lineup for the cubs --- it allows guys like Barrett and Jones to hit in more realistic spots (6th and 7th) --- assuming a big bat is picked up in LF. If not, we'll have to hope the new manager sees murton as a possible #2 hitter. Regardless, I really don't want to see Izturis hitting 2nd.
  21. This trade will look better depending upon how things fall in the off season. I can't imagine that we'll see the cubs stick with the same team we see now. Who's to say Izturis will not be moved? Cedeno now becomse expendable. A full year of ARam, Lee, Prior, and Z will do wonders for our record. If Hendry can sign a power bat in the OF and a top notch pitcher, things could be really good next year. There are sooooo many things that can (and will) happen over the next 4 months. It's going to be fun to watch it all unfold. As for why some fans care so much about salary --- Salary is a necessary evil when talking about a teams' players and possibilites for getting players.
  22. just turned the game on and wowza! Good news: Cubs are winning Bad News: Hendry: "Dusty, we're gonna move Cedeno to 2b." Dusty: "yeah, whatever. . . .NEIFI!!!!"
  23. It's going to be really tough to "hide" Pierre's and Izturis' low production in a typical cub lineup. It's going to take a superhuman season by Lee, ARam, Barrett and whomever is patrolling LF.
  24. we're almost 10 games outta the wild card. we're buyers now, dudes!
  25. Seems like if ARam is so happy here, he and Hendry would have lined out a deal to extend him. If they are doing a trade, then re-sign, I'd say that has to be tampering. . . . but, again, weirder things have happened.
