  1. someone should introduce the cubs to walkie talkies
  2. I thought it was odd that tonight you can watch the following at 7:00 CST WGN This Old Cub FOX Sports South (for me) Astros at Cubs In the grand scheme of things, I guess the trib would rather us watch the network :)
  3. probably not. I would imagine he'd sit the article on the desk. . . . see how it reacts to the airconditioning. . . maybe watch it float to the floor and get a "feel" for how it's made.
  4. You generally ran down my childhood. I recall waiting all freaking day for the 8/8/88 game. Then, it came and stupid ol' Phil Bradley hit a homer. Then RYNO went yard! Then the studpid rain. But Jody made up for it by slip n and slidin' all over the tarp. I also remember Bill Murray and Harry Caray yelling "RAFFY" during the rain out. I remember as a 17 year old, crying when I came home from school and learning that Sandberg had retired. To add insult to injury, my family and I had tickets to the Braves / Cubs game just as the strike hit. I remember feeling like an 8 year old at his first ball game when Ryno un retired! I remember climbing the grandstand steps and having the aura of Wrigley Field Slap me in the face on 8/8/89. I remember thinking that life just doesn't get any better than being in Wrigley, seeing Ryno hit a homer, and watching the Cubs go into 1st place. My earliest Cub memories come from the '84 season. I remember my excitement when, in the summer of 85, my parents told me I get to go see the Cubs (in st louis)! I remember two of my best friends (as a child) were Steve Stone and Harry Caray --- I spent 144 days a year with them!
  5. the real question is "how do blackouts maximize profits for TV stations and mlb?"
  6. If ernie were owner, we'd be much more rested for the playoffs. why? We play 162 days now. With ernie, every home game would be part of a double header, thus only 121 days of playing. BRILLIANT!
  7. maybe his work with Gwynn is paying off. He did mention that he's dedicated to hitting .300.
  8. I thought he was more like Koufax or Ryan.
  9. i think the only way to get those upper deck seats to have a full view would be to increase the angle or move the seats back. . . or both.
  10. I saw the Friday and Saturday games this past week. Sat in the back of the CF bleachers on Friday and in the upperdeck in LF (behind the pole) on Saturday. Bleacher seats were awesome. Upperdeck seats were fine, but I couldn't see the LF wall -- no big deal though. The ballpark is gorgeous and you're seated much closer to the action. I can only imagine what "good" seats must be like. I liked seeing games in the previous stadium, but the new busch is a bigtime upgrade. I also like the downtown area (Laclede's Landing). It's okay especially if you are staying in that area (we were at the Embassy Suites). Once the Ballpark Village is complete it's going to be a super nice facilty. It appears that St Louis is doing a renovation of sorts. Many downtown buildings are being torn down and / or renovated. The new Union Station is fantastic and provides a good time killer before the game. The arch is something I've always been impressed with and provides a good bit of historical fun for the family. I always enjoy my trips to SL. . . .. like even more when the cubs win!
  11. Bob isn't in the organization...it was just a conversation with someone who WAS in the organization and still has ties with people on the team and in the front office. I know he's not, but you claim Bob knows people inside the organization that think Prior is soft and that Bob thinks the same thing. I'd just like these baboons to think beyond the neanderthalic measuring of toughness in regards to injuries. What he said, and I'm paraphasing, is something to the effect that prior is a soft california boy that doesn't know the differece between pain and injury. We were talking about Wood and how he really has changed his attitude with Maddux on the team...and the went into Prior when he said that. I do agree, I think how they handled the team in 2003 effected these young guys and why haven't they thought about that. Why is Zambrano leading the league in pitches per game AGAIN ! I've talked with a guy who works for the Organization and he basically said the same thing about prior.
  12. If Wood loves Chicago and the cubs so much, we might get a chance to see it put into action. It's obvious that the cubs won't pick up the 13.5 millioin option. I'd venture to say that Wood has some value on the FA market. Now, would he be willing to let the Cubs decline the option and set him up with an incentive laden 1 year deal? Afterall, the cubs have paid him for the equivelant of 2 (or more) seasons where Woody failed to play (99, 2005, and various trips to the DL). This would be the only situation I can think of where I'd like to see Wood come back. With Wood and Maddux possibly coming off the books, that's 20 million the cubs have to work with. That will be nice.
  13. Finally, the bowling hall of fame will not have to share the spot light with the cardinal hall of fame ;)
  14. In other words, you are saying the Cubs deem Womack a better hitter than Nevin? By doing what they are doing, that is what I feel like they are saying. It's nuts. Nevin provides at least the threat of thunder. We have enough womack-type hitters (not taking anything away from Womack) in Cedeno and Pierre.
  15. But in a non-bake world, the lineup might look like: Pierre Murton Walker Nevin Ramirez Barrett Jones Cedeno Pitcher I, too like Womack, but in this lineup, he doesn't have what we need (run producer).
  16. Smooth move by baker not starting nevin at 1b. This blows my [expletive] mind. This team needs a little more power. Nevin gives it to them. For crying out loud, sit womack, move walker to 2b, and start nevin. This is nuts! I guess Baker got really confused when he asked Nevin to play 2b and phil replied "uhhh, I've never played there. . . "
  17. walker never looked home. Cedeno had the ump in his throwing line.
  18. am I wrong to want Nevin at 1b and Walker at 2b?
  19. i'd rather wood start every 6 days than pitch out of the 'pen. You run the risk of his only work being when his replacement (rusch / hill / ryu / guzman / williams) blows up. . . .
  20. Do you guys think there is any chance that Wood allows the Cubs to decline his big option and sign with the club for a much lower (and more fair) price? Afterall, they paid him for 1999 and 2005. Yes, I know he was under contract, etc, etc etc. Just a thought.
  21. So, basically the Trib is grasping at this point. Going into debt is never a good idea in these situations, but it might be all these dudes have left.
