  1. Yeah, i'd say that the best response to someone asking for someone you aren't willing to give up is to ask for an out of this world package that WOULD make you give them up. For all we know he asked for Bedard AND Cabrera. Hehe
  2. You mean you wouldn't accept his 2002 to 2004 splits against left handed pitchers on your team, presuming that, say, 90% of his at bats come against left handed pitchers? I thought people LIKED a .900+ OPS...
  3. Nope, nothing wrong with a spring training flier, who knows, he might have rested up and look good. And if he does he'd be a perfect guy to take those left handed pitchers off of Jacque's back :D
  4. Um...thanks? <- straight but not narrow
  5. If we're trying to paint the prettiest picture possible, you must be trying to paint the ugliest  Mabry and Grissom will be bench players, I'd set the odds of that at about 92%. Grissom will spell Jones and Pierre, Mabry will spell Murton. Until I see something to make me think otherwise, I'll continue to believe that and hope for the best. The real worry here is Neifi starting over Cedeno. And the fact that we're going to sign another outfielder meaning that Walker is gone (maybe for another pitcher) soon and Hairston will be our 2nd basemen...
  6. No, but I don't see any situation where Grissom wins Murton's playing time. If they bring Grissom in to platoon with Jones and they hit 2nd, you might get a .350 OBP out of the 2 hole. Jones actually had really decent numbers last year against righties, .268/.348/.466/.814, I almost think that might improve a bit if you have him focus solely on hitting right handed batters. Together they might put up something close to an .850 OPS, not terrific but not terrible
  7. Heh, I just had too "Adam Greenberg" Little Adam Greenberg with his helmet caved in Soon will pass through waivers, oh You better put Dusty in the loony bin 'Cause he'll never let Adam be a part of his show Adam is an outfielder And he runs quite a lot He'll give you OBP But a slugger, he's not He says he wants to be a major leaguer But he better first learn to duck quicker Adam! Adam! Adam! Adam! Adam! Adam Greenberg! Adam! Adam! Adam! Adam! Adam! Adam Greenberg! Adam better be playing Those slot machines 'Cause he'll have a token pile Before he starts on our team Will he always be afraid That they'll knock him to the dirt? No, he'll put that behind In AAA, prove his worth So the kid can get traded To some other town For a retread or such While he's All-Star bound Little Adam Greenburg Keep playing the game If we keep you, you'll suck probably Guess the curse is to blame Adam! Adam! Adam! Adam! Adam! Adam Greenberg! Adam! Adam! Adam! Adam! Adam! Adam Greenberg!
  8. You haven't forgotten who manages this team, have you? And his affection for aging veterans? If Grissom is signed I guarantee he'll at least be in a LF platoon. Except that they both are right handed hitters, so what would be the point of a platoon? I know why people are assuming any veteran who comes to the team is going to start over Murton, because of Dubois last year. But it's honestly two different situations. Hollandsworth was coming off of an injury shortened season where he put up a .939 OPS. Now, the sample size (148 at bats) was probably too small, but still, he'd had a monster year until he got hurt. Then we get into spring training, and these are the numbers they put up Holla - .349 .379 .524 903 Dubois - .269 .333 .558 891 So that really was a draw, but out of spring training it looked like Hollandsworth was going to get on base better...not that getting on base ever matters to the Cubs  Note I am not defending Bakers usage of those two, Holla should have been benched a LONG time before he was, but I can't fault him for giving Hollandsworth the job to start, he put up killer numbers in 2004, and in spring training duplicated them almost exactly. So to me this is a completely different situation, you have one old guy coming off of the worst year of his career, and you have a kid who put up a .900+ OPS last season. Unless Murton REALLY swandives in spring training, I see no possible scenario where Murton isn't the everyday player (unless we, ugh, sign someone like Preston Wilson or something, THEN I'll get worried). Now, what I think Grissom WOULD be brought in for is to rest Jones against left handers. He was terrible all around last year, but his 2004 splits against lefties is as follows .315 .356 .577 .933 2003 was .364 .399 .657 1.056 2002 was .293 .354 .617 .971 So, every year but last year (still would like to know if he was hurt) he has crushed left handers. I think we may have just seen Jacque Jones platoon partner. Which might not be so bad, IF he regains his 2004 form against lefties. Who do you think will put up the better OPS against lefties, Grissom or Jones?
  9. I highly doubt he's getting a guaranteed contract. He sure had a down year last year (was he hurt?), but if he reverts to his 2004 numbers, he'd be useful on the bench, probably our best power off the bench. Note I said bench. No way he plays over Murton.
  10. In Sept & Oct, he was 2-2 with a 4.33 ERA. Not exactly "breaking down" but not great either. Though in the playoffs he did have a 5.63 ERA...hmm
  11. Eh, i'm willing to give the benefit that Cedeno is going to be a starter next year unless something drastic happens. Hendry has said time and time again that he sees him as a starter. He was starting before he went down last year. I'm fairly confident that Ronny will either play short if we get a new 2B or a 2B if we get a new SS. As for Soriano, if he could be had for prospects I could live with it. We'd really need one of Murton or Cedeno to pan out OBP wise though, in the 2 hole. But with what they gave up to get him, I don't see him going for prospects. Now, Vidro is more likely. They could probably package him for prospects and filler major leaguers, and say they were concerned about his injury problem.
  12. What I find funny is the fact that neither side seems to want the teams to make this deal. You know, if it were such a terrible deal all around, you'd think one side would be chomping at the bit...
  13. Kind of sad that Eyre and Howry have just made more this offseason than Jeff Reardon did his entire career
  14. Look at the bright side, we trade Prior and the Q&A at the Cubs Convention will be fun
  15. I just think it's dumb to move Prior now. If you're willing to trade him, let him start the season, show he's back to his old self, and then see what you can get midseason, when teams will know they have him under control for another 2 and a half seasons. That being said, I'd prefer not to move Prior, we're a top payroll team, we can afford to keep the best after arbitration years. And that is even more so the case when you consider that Tejada & Bedard minus Prior doesn't put us in a guaranteed spot to win the division.
  16. Hmm, can't really think of a workable deal with the Rangers, though adding Tejada and Wilkerson would be an interesting move, especially if you keep Murton and can give him Jones at bats against lefties...
  17. Well, i'll start off team by team. The Seattle Mariners. I'd accept this deal. Cubs get: Miguel Tejada, Ichiro Suzuki Orioles get: Mark Prior, Jerry Hairston Jr. Mariners get: Bedard, Corey Patterson, Matt Murton I'd hate to give up what I am, but Miggy and Ichiro makes this offense lethal. We'd need to turn around and land Millwood (or, Weaver I suppose) if we did this though. Heh, more to come...
  18. Here's the question. Is there any 3 way deal with an AL West team that involves Prior and Miggy that you guys would accept? **goes to research to answer own question**
  19. jeeze, offer "A" seems so much better for the Orioles, they get two guys to plug into their rotation who will be cheap and theirs for years, a diamond in the rough (Corey), and a good prospect in Dope...
  20. I'd only trade Prior in the right deal for a handful of guys. Adam Dunn? We could work that deal out...
  21. Nevermind LF! I forgot, Texas is in the AL West. We're obviously trading bedard, Murton, and god knows what else for...KEVIN MENCH! I really shouldn't get wasted at 9:15 in the morning....
  22. Who plays left field? Well, I suppose that Preston Wilson is still on the market...
  23. Um...when did we trade Corey or Welly for PTBNL?
