  1. Which is even more reason not to settle for rubbish. Sorry, we don't have a on field general who is capable of getting more than the sum of parts he has. We have to have quality. Shoot...me...now
  2. Bullcrap, total 100% pure bullcrap. If they sign Jones, ugh, just shoot me now... Seriously, the only way Jacque Jones is an acceptable person in right field is if he's the 8th best hitter on the team. And that is hoping for a LOT from Cedeno, Murton, and Pierre. Why on earth is Preston Wilson not getting more attention if Hendry is dead set against going with Patterson? If he'll take just one year (or even the usual one year with an option we'll never take with a small buyout), he's clearly a better choice. Past 3 seasons. Jones .304 .333 .464 .797 .254 .315 .427 .742 .249 .319 .438 .757 Wilson .282 .343 .537 .880 .248 .315 .391 .706 .260 .325 .467 .792 Now which of those two is more likely to have a season that is better than pathetic? Probably the guy who has put up an .800 OPS multiple times in his career and almost did last year... Ugh, just ugh. Nevermind that the fools are writing off Huff, ugh.
  3. Yeah, Dusty seems to do fine with lefty/righty matchups so long as it's textbook. So long as the lefty is killer against lefties, we're fine. Same with the righty (killer against righties). We're only screwed when a guy has reverse splits (see: Remlinger, Mike) and Dusty's brain can't wrap itself around reversing what "da book" says you should do.
  4. If the Eyre and Howry contracts set the market...you're welcome Cards!
  5. What do you guys think the lineup is with Patterson in right? Pierre Walker Lee Ramirez Barrett Patterson Murton Cedeno ?
  6. Eh, Patterson had a terrible year last year. If he puts up, say, 2004 numbers, .266/.320/.452/.772, that is better than any of the 4th tier options (Jones/Encarncion/etc.). And Patterson has much more potential to have a better year than his past numbers than any of those options.
  7. Well, with the haul that Texas got for Soriano, I wish we would have been in line ahead of them to fleece the Nationals for Wilkerson  Beyond that, it might not have been a bad idea to sign Burnitz back if he would have took a $3 mil contract (Neifi money) with incentives if he starts. So at least we have SOMETHING. And if we can do better afterwards, he'd be one of the better 4th outfielders in the game.
  8. Well, if the choice is Patterson, Jacque Jones, or Juan Encarncion...I hope he isn't bluffing...
  9. I fixed that for you. No no, I fixed it for YOU
  10. I think it's pretty clear Hendry doesn't view Pierre as a one year rental (though he needs slapped for not going ahead and doing a new contract if that's the case, since it'll be cheaper to sign him off of a down year than if he has a good season this year), I think he'll be our center fielder for the next 3 or 4 years, with Pie being broke in at a corner. And yeah, I can't argue against keeping Patterson and giving him a chance to win the right field job, he's as likely to have a good year as any of the 4th tier free agents we're persuing. And if Wilson will come cheap he's not a bad choice to let him fight with Corey to be the right fielder next year. May the baseball gods bless Cedeno and Murton, because if they don't have breakthrough years, we're screwed...
  11. Well, I just hope Jim Hendry keeps his word and only trades players when it actually improves the MLB ballclub. If we can move Patterson and get better for 2005, so be it. If not, keep him, and use him the best you can. And if that's in right field, so be it. And if it's him in right field, we all better hope that Murton and Cedeno surprise us. Or that Cedeno is even in the lineup...
  12. jeeze, I didn't realize how lopsided his splits were. 2005 splits RH - .268/.348/.466/.812 LH - .201/.247/.370/.617 Why the hell did the Twins let him get 154 AB's against lefties? Of course, if you want to split hairs... Jereomy Burnitz 2005 splits RH - .267/.345/.430/.775 LH - .236/.268/.445/.713 Heh, so why the hell did the Cubs let him get 182 AB's against lefties?
  13. Better than Jacque Jones Not! Well I didn't mean technically better, but lets be honest, if we upgrade nowhere else and our RF next year is Jones, we're screwed anyway. I'd sure ENJOY Sammy in RF more than Jones
  14. no Aubrey Huff in RF no Jacque Jones in RF no Reggie Sanders in RF (since he'll get 2 or 3 years at least) no Corey Patterson in RF just who in the blue hell is going to be in RF? Holla?
  15. Not everyone can post on message boards at work. Not everyone is actually working at work, heh, holiday season rocks when you work for a university.
  16. Not everyone can listen to things while @ work. Summary please :D
  17. well, get Tejada and we might even be able to survive Jones in RF
  18. Over "nearly every other option"? No Over Jacque Jones? Yes Over this inanimate stick of wood? No
  19. Anybody feel like being even more depressed? From rotoworld...no way a mediocre player like Jones isn't going to make all the cash he can in this contract (which could very well be his last big money contract). We want him, we'll have to beat the Royals. Hello Jacque freaking Jones, our rightfielder for the next 3 years...at $6 million per
  20. Can only hope this is to get potential trades back on track (as in, it makes it look like we're going to fill our RF hole via free agency, making other teams stop bluffing and show their cards). Else, ugh. I'd much rather bring in a couple of right field gambles (Hidalgo, hell, Sosa) and see what we come up with in spring training. Hell, i'd rather let Corey have another shot. Hell, i'd rather just put a wood stick in RF than Jones...
  21. hmm, he should at least sign him to a one year extension or something, bad idea to wait and see, you know, what if he has an All Star year? Best to sign coming off of a down year.
  22. Of course, we could not get Tejada and still wind up with Juan E., or Jacque Jones, or Preston Wilson (or, gulp, Corey Patterson) in right field... Go for Miggy, and then it's more understandable if we have to settle in right field.
  23. kind of moot, unless we DFA Hairston, I think him and Mabry split the spots Macias would have covered.
  24. Novoa, and I don't even think twice about it. Maybe if you go by last years stats alone (even then it's close), but i'll take the LaTroy of '02, '03, or even '04 (hell, even the Cubs '05 version, people only remember the blown saves and not the 3.32 ERA) over the unknown.
