  1. Well, i think the most important thing to do now is sign Eric Byrnes (who was just non-tendered by the Orioles) to platoon with Jones. .298 .361 .524 .885 That's his 3 year splits against lefties. Do a strict platoon, and we might get an .825 OPS out of RF. Still not good enough but better than the .775 we'll get if it's just Jones out there.
  2. {Best newscaster voice} This just in! The Chicago Cubs have made an extroidinary announcement of a new on-field strategy for 2006. Nicknamed "Drunken Squirrals Swinging At A Nut", the entire team plans to get drunk before every single game, in the hopes that the intoxication will loosen the team up, and keep them from swinging at bad pitches. Newest Cub Jacque Jones has assured us though that he will play through the buzz, and strike out just as much as he always has. More on this story, including Kyle Farnsworth and Rafeal Furcal demanding trades to the Cubs, at 10 {/Best newscaster voice}
  3. Addressed the pen? I'll give you that one, I still think we overpaid a bit for the talent in terms of salary and years, but he brought in quality people. Our bullpen might be the best in the division. Addressed lead off? Well, yes he did. I think I like Juan Pierre a lot more than some people here, though I think we paid too much for him. But you're right, we have a bonafied leadoff man. So i'll concede that point. Addressed right field? HIT THE BREAKS! Got to disagree with that one. We downgraded, though we're debating crap vs crap here. Here's both players ZIPS projections for next year. Name P AVG OBP SLG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K SB CS Burnitz* lf .238 .309 .421 147 541 69 129 26 2 23 79 53 110 4 5 Jones* rf .261 .319 .433 145 541 71 141 26 2 21 76 42 121 11 7 So, Burny would have a .730 OPS and jones would have a .752 OPS Neither are acceptable on this team, especially with multiple question marks on the field already (Cedenos production or even playing, Murton's production, the Neifi factor, etc.) It just boggles the mind why you would pay Jones 3/16 when you could have just re-signed Burnitz to 1/5 if you were willing to settle for that level of production.
  4. With the Eaton trade, they currently have a lot of outfielders. Don't see them keeping all of them. Anyone interest you guys in a trade? Not that he's ideal, but Ryan Klesko would be better in RF than Jacque Jones...
  5. I should have waited until I was messed up before I read that....
  6. So basically what we're saying here is, we're both going to get our asses handed to us by the Astros...and Brewers...hell, can't count out the Reds...shoot, the Pirates have gotten better even. wait a minute...
  7. I just hope Hendry is faking interest to get the Cards to bite
  8. To the question of if I'd uproot my pregnant wife, well, I've never had the chance to turn down $13 million dollars, hehe, hard to know what I'd do. Would probably depend on if my wife was interested in relocating from Chicago to the Washington area. And, it's not like the Cubs had a problem going into 2004 with two starter-level 2B's. Let them platoon at 2B, Todd facing righties, Vidro facing lefties, give Vidro a few starts here and there to rest Lee and Ramirez, and whoever isn't playing is your pinch hitter.
  9. Williams for Church and Vidro, however, does just that. The Nats free up almost 7 million dollars which could probably net them another starter.
  10. Hell, all I think it'd take to get him to waive the NTC is a 1 year contract extension at his current salary. We take back Vidro and Church, pay the difference in salary (about $6 million). They sign Wood to a 1 year extension at $13 million, and wind up with Kerrry Wood for 2/20, pretty damn reasonable in a market where Washburn gets near 4/40. Not that it will happen, but it's silly to think there is no scenario where Wood would waive his NTC. Hell, couple months of being a reliever and watching his 2007 contract hopes dimmer (nobody would throw a big contract at an injury plagued guy who hasn't started in over a year) and I bet Wood would take a trade.
  11. let me put it this way, at 29 years of age, is he worth a Dempster/Williamson contract? Say, a half million this season with a 2 million option for 2007?
  12. Yeah, if the choice is Jacque Jones at 3/18 or Sammy at 1/.3, time to bust out the Sammy jersey
  13. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.asp?leaguenum=&sport=MLB&id=6270 Anyone interested in taking a flier on him? If he puts his injury issues behind him, he'd a heck of a starter.
  14. Intriguing, it would have to wait until spring training for both parties though, they'd want to see Kerry healthy, we'd want to see Vidro healthy. As for Church, wow. After being demoralized to the Jacque Jones level, Church is looking GREAT. Even his line from last year, his first real shot in the bigs, would be acceptable. .287/.353/.466/.819 ? Sign me up... And his minor league stats are amazing too...
  15. Luckily we won't get him, no way anyone turns down $13 million more, even if it does mean playing in Kansas City. But hey, his suckyness just won't stand out as bad
  16. Hehe, if Milton Bradley is non tendered we better be signing his butt...
  17. ugh, two years is too much. Hell, one year with a team option is too much... Anyway, I'm not too worried, he already has 3 years on the table with the Royals I believe, and some other team will probably give him 3 years. St. Louis please :D
  18. To be honest, I attribute his decline to just how depressing it had to be playing in Tampa Bay. No help what-so-ever... That deal? Pull it.
  19. Actually, I'd assume that the longer he holds out the more fans will call for Boston to just cut ties with him.
  20. I never said it was a good idea, but it's more fun to think of crap like this than bang your head on the keyboard because nothing is going on and it's killing you (news...must have news...reassure me that Cubs aren't a sinking ship...heh). Disagree that we'd have a hole at 3rd though, Marte is going to be a special player. And I realize the odds of him being moved are low, but I guess it depends how badly the Sox want Manny took care of.
  21. This might be nuts, heck, not sure I'd even pull the trigger, but here goes. Cubs trade: Aramis Ramirez, Corey Patterson, and Neifi Perez Red Sox trade: Manny Ramirez, Andy Marte, $ Red Sox get to swap All Stars with the Cubs, Cubs instantly refill ARam's position. Red Sox instantly fill thier lineup card, Aram to 3rd, Neifi to 2nd (hey, they're potentially LOSING OUT on A-Gone Part 2, they're down to Neifi levels), Corey to center. Cons of course are potentially opening the 3rd base black hole worm. Hmm, though I do wonder if Boston would pull the trigger without having an outfielder coming back. Perfaps expand it to include the devilrays moving Huff to the Red Sox or something...
  22. Who are you talking about, you'll need to be more specific. You just described 99% of the shortstops and second basement on MLB rosters
  23. I'm just going to be really pissed if he signs Jones for 3 years. With Wilson at 1 year, at least you don't really HAVE to play him if, say, Patterson gets his head out of his rectum and becomes a ballplayer. But if you give Jones 3 years, 15 million or worse, that's a lot of money for a 4th outfielder. And should Patterson break out, hmm, I wonder which outfielder will be replaced by Jones the second he slumps. Say hello to Jacque Jones, left fielder! SHOOT...ME...NOW
  24. ...to a minor league contract nope, he couldn't have been useful on the bench
  25. Better garbage for one year than garbage for 3.
