  1. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12050948/ Child out of wedlock? Who cares. Sueing because you feel your support money is unfair? Happens every day. Your biological daughter being 16 and you've only seen her once? Wow, that's low. I hope there's another side to this story because the one being presented here is pathetic. Just because she isn't one of your kids with your wife doesn't mean you should just pretend she doesn't exist.
  2. Do I think that there is a chance that Angel Pagan is going to somehow turn into Carlos Beltran? Nope. Do I think that there is a c hance that he's better than his minor league numbers would indicate and could potentially turn into a useful player on the MLB team? You betcha. He wouldn't be the first (and he wouldn't be the last) player to benefit from a change of scenery. I mean, is it impossible that maybe he was hurt by the Mets Patterson'ing him into something he wasn't? Maybe we've finally learnt that mistake and maybe he has a better head on his shoulders than Corey and can change things. There's a fine line between being a realist and being a pessimist and some seem close to crossing it here. It would be a dream come true if he blossoms into an adequate replacement for Pierre and makes Slappy trade-bait at midseason.
  3. We got something for Welly that could potentially benefit us someday. Good trade I say, some team would have just waited to see how long we were willing to let him rot on the 25 man getting an inning every few weeks, and grabbed him for free when we sent him down.
  4. Glad he hate the guts to call it quits when he felt it was time, because I don't doubt that Dusty would have still wanted him on the team. Sad still. I liked what I'd heard of him mentoring some of the younger guys this year. I wouldn't mind one bit them finding a job in the minor league organization for Marquis.
  5. Been good in the previous years? Keeping Pagan or Grissom around because they can back up CF is a horrible waste. Hairston isn't great out there but he can pass for it to give Pierre 10 games off for the year. Here's the thing about that. We have to have backup Outfielders. People are going to need a day off here and there. And that being said, here is the competition at this point. Restovich .244/.279/.439 Grissom .200/.256/.250 Mabry .344/.421/.563 Pagan .367/.412/.700 Now, if you're about to say that Adam Greenburg could have probably outplayed the lot of them, hey, we're on the same page, but he's already been sent to the minors. Mabry obviously is the 4th outfielder at this point and, hey, he's earned it this spring. So of who we have left, has Pagan not earned the job? Not like Restovich or Grissom have any (deserving) mitigating factors to land them the job over Pagan. Pagan isn't the greatest ever, and he may sink in the majors, but he's earned the chance this spring to be our 5th outfielder. His AA & AAA numbers, while nothing impressive, at least lead me ot believe he'll be acceptable. If he carries a .270 average with a .330 on base percentage, well, that's about what you should expect out of a reserve.
  6. uh, it wasn't a signing. they purchased his contract from the mets. if they lose him, oh no - a few thousand dollars lost. big deal. But they won't give up on him. He's gonna clog a spot on the 40 man for no damn reason. No, the guy who will be clogging up a spot on the 40 man will be Marquis Grissom if he makes the team. If not, Angel Pagan won't be clogging up anything because he's more than earned a spot on the bench with his .367/.412/.700 line. While I more than realize that spring training is a horribly small sample size, what on earth else can he do to make the team?
  7. Seems stupid, it's not like we don't have every position covered with a mediocre (at least) backup. I could understand it if Neifi were on the way out, but else it seems pointless. Watch it be for Wellemeyer and he'll win 20 games this season with a sub 3 ERA.
  8. How do waiver claims at this point work, last years standings? If the Cubs claim would trump the Cardinals claim, they should almost claim him to keep him from going to the Cards. :D
  9. I'm...I'm feeling this.
  10. Well, all those other players also weren't smart enough to go overseas every offseason where you'd assume it'd be a little easier to do those sort of things without as much scrutiny. That said, there's no proof other than the change in his body, so you can't convict him, but there's plenty enough proof there to indict, so to speak. I think Sammy was on the juice, but his discretion over his peers probably means he won't have much trouble getting in the HOF.
  11. Stranger things have and will happen. Hopefully Roger and Michael have made a friendship that they'll keep up now that the classic is over. If May comes and the Astros are sinking, the Rangers aren't doing too well, and he just doesn't feel like opening the Yankees/Red Sox can of worms...maybe he'll remember the advice he got
  12. That is if he has no pain doing the towel drill. One step at a time. And if both of those steps go well he'll be sent to the cubs.com board on a seek and destroy assignment. :D FIXED!
  13. Tell me this...is it the thread title that causes the injuries, or just talking about injuries in the first place? Because if that's the case, we should just call the thread THE PERFECT HEALTH THREAD And then talk about injuries in there 8)
  14. Hopefully it's nothing wrong. After what Mark's gone through the last few years, i'd be reporting anything I felt or thought I felt if I were him.
  15. You know, the more I think about it the less I mind getting Luis Matos, just hate that it would have to be Todd Walker going, but it's better than just getting Low-A prospects or something. He did alright against lefties last season. .297/.368/.466/.834 He would seem acceptable as a platoon partner for Jones... Of course, Grissom might (with might being the key word) give you similiar production against lefties, and he won't cost you a dime.
  16. You know, if Juan Pierre off of a bad year equaled Pinto, Nolasco, and Mitre, then shouldn't Todd Walker equal at least Pinto & Nolasco?
  17. Ugh. The only reason to trade Todd Walker, at this point, is if it improves your 2006 ballclub. Money isn't a problem, we obviously can already afford the team we have and there's nobody to sign with any money you might save. So...um, why trade him to either the Marlins or Orioles? Unless the Orioles lose their mind and we get that Markakis kid, hehe, it's pointless. I don't even think the Marlins have anything left to get. Todd Walker on the bench is more valuable than any prospect we could get for him at this point...
  18. Why not Theriot? 182/273/357/630 Sorry, Cubs.com listed him as a second basemen and it would have ruined the joke of starting Augie Ojeda. Anyway, people forget about that homerun that Augie hit that one time...he's a gamer.
  19. So far in the spring. Augie Ojeda - .231/.231/.308/.539 Neifi Perez - .200/.238/.200/.438 Ronny Cedeno - .158/.238/.158/.396 Yes folks, by over 100 points of OPS, Augie Ojeda has earned the chance to be our starting shortstop next season! (thus far) Laughing through the tears...
  20. Or, well, I suppose in that scenario Pie plays center, lol. Monday, brain isn't working
  21. If we're judging by spring training thus far, we better slot Mike Restovich and his 1188 OPS into the starting lineup :D
  22. I think it's very telling that, despite coming off of a down year where you'd think his price-tag would be cheap, the Cubs aren't going to talk to Pierre about a new contract until after the season. What that tells me is, they're still in a wait and see mode as far as their outfield goes. If Matt Murton pans out this season and is a worthy corner outfield, and if Jacque Jones makes a comeback and isn't pointless, I could see the Cubs shifting him to Center Field and putting Pie in right field in 2007.
  23. Just looking at the Astros, i don't see them staying competitive without Clemens, so him waiting until midseason to pick which of his 4 teams is in the best shape for a World Series run is just fine by me. That team won't be the Astros. And we don't have to worry about those other teams, and if we wind up having too i won't complain :D
  24. I'd imagine his line of thinking is, he can play in Japan and if he plays well there might be an opening on a MLB team due to an injury or something.
  25. It'll break my heart, but we can make this deal Neifi Perez for Renyel Pinto, Ricky Nolasco, and Sergio Mitre Break my heart indeed :D
