  1. And even more ironic that, even if we gave up a good prospect to get him back, he would instantly fall apart as a Cub, either sucking so much he winds up at single-A, or the first game for the Cubs breaking something and being out half a season :x Stupid freaking curse....
  2. You know, i'd post that we should swap a prospect and rights to Sisco to Kansas City for SOMEONE to help us in the pen...but they don't HAVE anyone to help us in the pen.... :(
  3. And give us a chance to see players play we've never seen before, so we scream "DEAR GOD CUBS SIGN "insert name here" TO A DEAL!!!!"
  4. Ask our last internationl team of NBA all stars about that. The rest of the world will catch up quick enough. Nevermind that non US MLB players would be on their home country. The Japanese team would not be shabby. Neither would the Dominican.
  5. Yeah, we're well beyond the point of reasonable hope of getting him back I do believe. Even if he comes down to earth, Kansas City has seen what he is capable of, and seeing as they're going nowhere fast, they have nothing to lose by letting him stay in the pen all year. In fact, the best I'd say we could hope for is they might give us an average replacement prospect just to have more control over his rights, in case he keeps up having an amazing year, and some idiot team in contention offers the farm (literally) for his arm.
  6. Have to say, if we want to get anything out of him, we better be pulling the string and offering to take a prospect back for the right to send him down if he struggles....
  7. well, I'm certainly not a Dusty supporter, and I want his head for Macias getting the playing time he's already gotten, but thus far he hasn't been wrong about Neifi. As a Cub, Neifi has been on it. Now, one of two things are happening here. a) one of those divine once in a lifetime things where a scrub just figures it out late in his career or b) a fluke and the bottom will fall out at anytime. If it's a), hallelujah. If it's b), I'll call for Dusty's head for THIS when he's hitting .210 and he's still getting playing time outside of late inning defensive replacement and occasional pinch running.
  8. Eh, whenever a player dons a Cub uniform, I hope to some cosmic power that they succeed, and save my groaning and random throwing of things at my television for when they fail. Neifi got on base today, which was better than we could have reasonably hoped for. If he keeps it up, hey, hell hasn't froze over in a while, it's due. If not (aka, 99.9% likely) then we can scream when he keeps playing
  9. well, as crazy as it sounds, you can't blame Neifi so far today, he's 5 for 6..... :? and now batting .429 on the year
  10. Neifi is fine for the bench, if used correctly. Have a blowout either way, and want to give Nomar a couple innings off? Neifi is great. Nomar need to be spelled a day, and you're facing a weak team? Neifi is great. Bottom of the 9th, Nomar just batted last inning, and you're up 1 run, and are thinking about putting a gold glove caliber guy in for defense? Neifi is great. What Neifi isn't, is a primary left handed bat off of the bench. You should only be bringing Neifi up to pinch hit when everyone on your bench other than Blanco has already hit...
  11. The thing with Dusty Baker is, he brings enough good to the table that it makes you just want to punch him in the nose even more. If he had someone in his ear during the game who knew what to do in these situations, Dusty would all of a sudden become manager of the year legitimately. Think Larry Bird flanked by Rick Carlisle. But he doesn't, and since we know Dusty, he wouldn't listen even if he did. We need a motivator in the clubhouse to get the most out of the guys, and a general on the field who looks at every player as a bullet to shoot at his opponent until he drops. We have one, not the other.... Imagine if Dusty had, say, Ryne Sandberg sitting next to him as the bench coach, and would heed Sandberg's advice on in game decisions. Hell, imagine if he had any one of us there.....
  12. There is just no reasonable justification for pinch hitting Neifi Perez and Jose Macias over Hairston and Dubois. All there is is the stupid righty/lefty split. And teams are going to keep bringing in the appropriate relievers to bring Dusty's left handed bats off of the bench. But lets be honest here, there has to be shared blame. Jim Hendry has to be just as responsible for this loss as Baker, for having those guys on the bench in the first place. Everyone knows Dusty Baker, he hasn't changed much in a decade. We all know the positives (gets the most out of his players, etc.). But if you're going to make him your manager, you have to pick your bench players almost as carefully as you pick your starters. If you have to have a scrub or two on the bench, they had damn well better be right handed, or Dusty is going to misuse them. I think after tonight it's painfully obvious that, if he's going to keep Hollandsworth starting, we need to get Ben Grieve up from Iowa as quick as we can. This is where Hendry has to show some balls, and eat a mistake, bring up Grieve, designate Macias for assignment. Nobody is going to claim him, so he'll still be in Iowa if (must fight throwing up in my mouth) you need him.
  13. I personally hope Neifi has one of those once in a generation miracle turn arounds where he just "got it" out of nowhere and winds up being the best backup infielder in baseball
